Marine
Forum/viewtopic.php?f=124&t=4895724(I forgot I put kids in the prompt for Marine…so I’m going to say they’re Remus’ cousin’s or half sister’s kids actually)
Prompt: "share a story"
(Never did this for them so…I’ll do it now)
Remus smiled as he patted the canine beside him. Marine was a beautiful dhole, three shades or colors plus the white markings. They had a nice breakaway collar the same color as their eyes. His favorite thing about them was their eyes. He smiled as the dhole wagged their tail at him, and twitched their ears. He patted the canine, and looked around for a moment. Before crossing a street as he was still by his house. He and the dhole were headed to the storefront and kennels. He’d gotten the canine from there, and the kids loved the canine. They weren’t really his kids…they were a relative’s, but we’re at his house sometimes. When their mother needed alone time, or to do shopping. That’s when he’d get the kids, and he’d have to watch them for a couple hours.
He absolutely adored those kids, and was so happy. It made him want a child of his own, honestly, but he still wasn’t quite ready. Plus, he and Sirius were still just boyfriends. Well, Sirius had recently proposed to him, but they hadn’t discussed the wedding or anything. He hadn’t even told his family…Only that relative and her kids, because they all understood and didn’t get mad at him. They didn’t care what his sexuality was. Just as his precious Marine didn’t care, and he was so grateful for the canine. He hummed a small sound, which caused them to throw their head back. They let out a small sound, almost like a howl. He giggled a bit, then shook his head and put his hand down. Placing it upon their head as they straightened up once more, done with their ‘serenade’.
The two walked onto yet another road, and walked along that one. Coming to a crosswalk and crossing it then heading on. They continued along the streets and pathways until houses gave way to trees. They walked through the tree lined park. Coming out on the other side, to a place less populated. It still had houses, but not as close together as their neighborhood had. They went along through that area, until they reached the end. Heading off onto a path that Remus knew would lead them to the shopkeeper. The two continued along on their small journey. The dhole making small sounds here or there, and Remus still humming. He smiled as he listened to the sounds they were making. He knew these to be happy sounds the dhole was making, having learned everything about them.
He even knew, or believed, the canine was genderfluid. Of course, he couldn’t know what gender they’d be going by at any given time. Yet, he would call them by a gender each week or month. They never growled at him, wagging their tail as he called them girl or boy. Today, he was referring to them as ‘she’. He had been doing so for five days now, and Marine seemed quite fine with that. The two walked along this nice path. It definitely looked like a road, but there were never many people or much traffic. Shaking his head at this fact, he walked along until he saw it. There it was, there was the shop and the kennels. The two headed up, and went in search of the shopkeeper. Finding the shopkeeper, Remus smiled and said “I came to tell you about Marine, and I brought them with me.”
The NQD wagged as they saw the shopkeeper.
Remus smiled, saying “They settled in quite nicely.”
“It took them awhile, and my boyfriend wanted to tell you about them.”
“He knew I should be the one to do so, though.”
He patted the dog a moment, then continued.
“They’ve been getting on well with the kids.”
“Do you remember I told you about the kids once?”
“Rickie and Rory absolutely love Marine.”
He took out his phone to show some pictures.
“They really love the wagon, and love to be hooked up to it.”
“The kids love to ride in it as Marine pulls it.”
He continued to talk about Marine.
Staying for another twenty minutes or so to talk to the shopkeeper.
