leaf-fall -- as summer gives way to colder weather, your clans can expect to see a decrease in prey and an increase in danger. predators may become more desperate during this time. while the likelihood of dehydration goes down, cats who aren't careful on patrols might face more serious risks. inside the camp, medicine cats will find less herbs and kittings will become more difficult. cats who go out on too many patrols will also face possible illnesses, as well.

"Under the eyes of the Court of Blossoms, I name you Zinnialea and Shamrocktrail, may the spirits watch
over you and protect you from the darkness of rot."

Promisedrose pressed her nose to the two newly named knights foreheads, the scent of their flower crowns
wafting through the air. She took a step back, and smiled at the two. Zinnialea was grinning, and Shamrocktrail
had a pleased smile. "You received your seeds from the Lady of the Fields earlier, you are now free to plant
them anywhere in the garden. May the spirits guide you to good soil."

The two knights bent down to pick up their small packets of seeds - each of them had been given a seed of the
plant for which they were named for - and split up. Zinnialea walked to a blank section of the garden near the
entrance, while Shamrocktrail made her way near the Squires den. Despite the colder weather, their seeds
would take root, and once the spring came their plants would emerge and thrive.

"It's a nice place you've got, though I'm sure it looks better when everything's in bloom." The tom mused.

"It is, and we do have some cold-weather plants, the evergreens around should provide us with good
enough shelter during the winter." Peonystem responded, waving his tail towards the thick pines and cedars
that were dotted throughout the garden.

"And this is where you'll be staying, there's space near the ivy in the back or by those stones. Or you can
make your own nest, just don't keep it too close to anyone else's space."

"I'll keep that in mind," Antlerstrike hummed. He'd been guided to the Garden by the spirits' urging, and
Peonystem was glad for the extra paws since Scallionsnarl had fallen ill. Lotusseed was taking care of him,
but it was nice to not have to worry about it. And once the gray tom recovered, then it would be extra paws
compared to what they'd had before.

And although Cordylineblade had officially been removed from the patrols in order to take care of Bumble
and Pollen, Callashell would be joining patrols and thus all things would be kept in balance.

"Crown Rose? Do you have a moment?"

Promisedrose turned to see Dustystep approaching. She glanced back towards Peonystem, but the Lord, upon
seeing Dustystep, had gained an undecipherable glint in his eyes, and resumed walking away.

"What is it you need?" she asked, taking a moment to stretch out her claws.

"I was wondering if, I could have your permission to begin courting someone. I've been listening to Cordy and
Peonystem about some courting rituals used in older times, and they seemed like a nice tradition, one I
was hoping to keep. A heartfelt talk under the full moon, which is tonight, a gift given the second full moon,
and a promise made the third. I was talking with some of the knights as well and they all agreed that the
traditions seemed like something we could incorperate into the Court."

Promisedrose's eyes widened. "I-, I mean who am I to stop you in the affairs of love," she said. There was an...
odd ache, somewhere in her heart. She coughed, and turned away. "May I ask who the lucky cat is?"

"Well, with your permission," Dustystep said, she could sense his approach, and glanced at him side-long.

"I was hoping it would be you?"

Coaldust and Tangletail, the youngest of the group, had plenty of energy for the whole patrol. There were a few times that Talonfall had to call them back before he sighed loudly and called out, "Just go get your energy out and scout ahead!" And then quietly he mumbled, "Out here actin' like kits out the nursery."
"Aww, I think it's kinda cute, Talonfall," Heatherheart said, her soft laughter filling the chilly morning air.
"You think it's cute?" Lanternglow asked, amusement softening their face. They padded closer to Heatherheart's side, their matching ginger pelts brushing as they walked side by side.
Heatherheart gave a small shrug, though the spark in her green eyes betrayed her humor. "Sure! I mean, look at them, not a single worry on their minds. As if there's no danger out there. I'd love to be as carefree." She didn't move away from Lanternglow but watched where the two young toms ran off to.
"It'd be nice," Talonfall grunted, "but it'd be better if they took this patrol more seriously."
Lanternglow's whiskers twitched in amusement. "Ah man, let them have their fun," they said, "a few moments of peace won't hurt."
Talonfall flicked an ear but didn't comment, instead keeping his attention on the path ahead. The grasses were thick and heavy with dew and a fine mist hung low to the ground. The soft murmur of birds filled the stillness of dawn. He wouldn't admit it but everything, just for a moment, did feel peaceful.
Then he heard a sudden yowl of alarm. Talonfall spun quickly to see Heatherheart in a dense bush of brambles.
"Heatherheart!" Lanternglow was already at her side, their gaze focused on the snare of thorns wrapped around her fur.
"I'm fine... I'm fine!" Heatherheart called, wincing as she tried to pull herself free, "I just thought I saw something and.. Ugh!"
"Don't move, you'll make it worse," Lanternglow carefully started to untangle her fur from the prickly mess. Normally, Lanternglow was a jokester but in this moment, they were precise and gentle with a light touch as they worked. "Almost there," they murmured. With a careful tug, they freed their clanmate from the bush. "There we go... You ok?"
"Ow... I will be, ugh... It really hurt though," she replied, shaking out her fur with a wince. "That was also... Embarrassing. Er... Thanks 'glow."
Lanternglow blinked, the little nickname making their heart race for a moment. They stammered slightly and quickly said, "N-no need to be embarrassed, could've happened to anyone."
Talonfall cleared his throat pointedly, breaking the moment. "Heatherheart, you said you saw something?"
"O-oh! Yeah, I saw some movement," the molly looked back towards the bush, "it looked like a cat."
As she spoke, a small figure sheepishly emerged from behind the bush. His pale fur was ruffled, eyes watching warily, and his tail flicked anxiously. "Ah... I'm, uh, sorry for indirectly causing that?" He preemptively apologized, seeing as the patrol was starting to bristle at him. "I'm looking for a, uh, Orestar?"

leaf-fall -- as summer gives way to colder weather, your clans can expect to see a decrease in prey and an increase in danger. predators may become more desperate during this time. while the likelihood of dehydration goes down, cats who aren't careful on patrols might face more serious risks. inside the camp, medicine cats will find less herbs and kittings will become more difficult. cats who go out on too many patrols will also face possible illnesses, as well.

the cool breeze ruffled the large black tomcat's fur as he took his solo patrol, expression deep in thought but still vigilant of his surroundings. his mind was still reeling from the events of the last moon...his ascension as rex, the weight of kosmos' prosperity now upon his shoulders, seeing his mother in his dreams. it all felt surreal. the territory that was now his to protect...the legacy he has to carry on. it was all a lot to take in, especially all at once, and when just last moon he had been nothing but a loner, a wanderer. he was no longer no one, instead now he is someone.

his mother had agreed when he had asked for a prophet to help guide and heal, had told him she would send him someone to aid him as both counsel and healer. he felt a little better, then, at the realization soon he would no longer be alone.

"careful, or you'll run into a tree."

shadestar froze, his head whipping around at the unfamiliar voice as an unfamiliar scent too reached his nose. his green eyes scanned his surroundings, but couldn't find the source of the voice that had pulled him from his thoughts. perplexed, he opened his maw to speak. "hello? this is kosmos territory -"

"up here." looking up, he watched as a chocolate tortie made her way down a tree, indigo eyes glimmering with amusement. "so, you're the tomcat that has been stinking up the forest with his scent." despite her words, he couldn't detect any malice behind them, only curiosity.

drawing himself up to his full height, he looked down at her. she was a little smaller than him, but if anything she didn't seemed intimidated by the difference. "this forest belongs to kosmos now. i am it's rex, shadestar. and you are intruding."

"this was my home before it was yours." she sat, tail wrapping around her paws. "my name is coco. just your average loner...not a rex, whatever that means. what is kosmos, annyways?"

"it's...well.." he paused, searching for the right words. "one day, it will be a large and prosperous colony, but for now, it's just me."

coco looked at him thoughtfully. "interesting. do you have room for one more? i have to admit, it's not as fun, being alone."

"yes. we do." he hoped he didn't sound too eager. tilting his head, he studied her for a moment. "but you'll have to take on a new name. we do things differently here." he paused, considering. "bayheart. for the color of your eyes, and your fur. that will be your new name.

Newstar had immediately decreed that no cat would patrol or hunt near the northern border alone, and they forbid Whitepaw from training near there. The clan was of course aware of dogs that twolegs led around town, but the dog that Pineclaw and Redfur had scented was alone, and had apparently made a nest behind one of the shops. "We need more information," Glassfang had said. "If it's small enough, we could drive it off ourselves." Newstar's tailtip twitched fitfully. "It may also belong to a twoleg," added Sunstone. Pineclaw and Redfur were all too willing to volunteer for dog patrols. Over the following weeks, they determined that the intruding dog was not small, but not large either. It did not seem to be waiting for its twoleg, but it did not venture far from the storefronts. They often saw the shops' twolegs feeding the dog scraps. Newstar hoped this meant the dog was not inclined to wander further afield.

A moon or so after the dog was first sighted, to absolutely no one's surprise, Pineclaw and Redfur declared officially that they were mates.

Border Patrol wrote:Newstar & Pineclaw patrol the Dunes.
"I'm telling you, Newstar," said Pineclaw. "I really don't think this dog is much to worry about." He wove his way through the sea oats to the top of the dune that Newstar was standing on. His leader's gaze was fixed on the town in the distance. "There's no reason for it to leave a steady source of food to come all the way out here." Newstar sighed. "I hope you're right," they said. "I've known dogs that were irrational, though." They turned and fell in step with Pineclaw as they continued their route.

Pineclaw had protested, but Redfur insisted she needed a solo hunt along the beach. Out on the sand, Redfur breathed deep the fresh briny air. She let the waves lap at her paws as she watched for schools of fish trapped by the tide.

A rare breeze of cool air ruffled Whitepaw's fur. Glassfang had led her to a calm pool in the delta that was protected from the stronger current. The older cat stepped daintily into the water, and then suddenly ducked under the surface. She came back up soaking wet, and shook her fur out - completely dousing her apprentice. Whitepaw gave a startled laugh. She appreciated Glassfang's sense of humor, but still felt nervous about today's lesson. She hadn't set paw in the water since the ocean had coughed her up.

Newstar & Sunstone discuss the changing weather. Sunstone suggests the clan agree on an evacuation plan in case of hurricanes. Newstar suggests the huge old oak tree in the forest. It's far enough away from the river to avoid being swept away, it's tall enough to avoid flooding, and it's thick enough to withstand most winds.
