Finally finishing his first pure fiction novel was certainly a refreshing experience for him. As he pulled himself out of that world and back to reality, he took another look outside his little window. Frost had formed on it, in fact a few cracks had as well, no doubt due to his presence. He’d have to find someone to fix that. Fresh off a story which encouraged adventure and expanding one’s horizons, he couldn’t help but notice the irony in not heeding that lesson. Perhaps he’d have his own mini adventure, just around the small village of course…to fix the window.

Byte’s mind was made and he floated over to the front door. It took a bit of finagling to get his somewhat limited tractor beam to twist the knob. Maybe a bit longer than he liked, to the point where he almost quit right then and there, but eventually he managed to get the door open. He was off to a great start.

Byte made his way down the main road, scanning what he could as he went. He realized he had never truly explored the place. A light blue wash of light projected from his “eye” as he scanned any little thing of interest. He tried not to be rude about it and avoided most other people. As he went he noticed most people didn’t actually seem too bothered by his presence, at least at a distance, which was nice. By the time he made it to the town square he was actually a little enthusiastic for once. Maybe even a little full of himself for making it so far out of his comfort zone. As he took a glance around he spotted a figure near the fountain who looked interesting.

Byte knew he had seen them around before. At least, he had noticed them when he first arrived. Byte had been in a bit of a rush at the time, having been a little confused and panicked with the whole teleportation thing, but he distinctly remembered seeing the figure. They were enthusiastically showing off something or other to another villager. All the while they were swinging around a large array of equipment. He remembered it had piqued his interest and if he hadn’t been in such a hurry he might have stopped to look.

As much as he didn’t want to be a bother, his curiosity and urge to be a bit more social spurred him forward. ”Hi there, I think I’ve seen you around before…” he paused a moment to search his memory for a name, ”the mason?” It occurred to him that he didn’t actually know their name and he wasn’t even sure where he had heard ‘mason’ before. Navigating through his own memory was always a chore after his accident.

”Are you…enjoying the weather?” Byte’s voice was about what one would expect from an A.I. Though, a soft crackling noise could be heard whenever he spoke, sort of like a radio station with a weak signal. He also wasn’t sure how to start a conversation. Unfortunately, he hadn’t had a real one in a long while.

Byte was a little surprised to have someone talking to him with such a carefree attitude. It was a nice feeling, perking up the otherwise solemn little robot. He made sure to float at about eye level as he spoke. ”Is it cold? Hmm, I suppose I can’t really tell.” Byte glanced away for a moment to look at some of the other townsfolk walking by. Sure enough most of them were wearing jackets or similar clothing.

Byte returned his gaze towards the mason. Sure enough, with a closer look it was easy to see he wasn’t human. Byte hadn’t exactly seen anything exactly like him but he had still seen his fair share of all sorts of aliens and monstrosities in general. ”Thank you, I’ve never been called ‘wicked cool’ before, most people find me rather unsettling…You're certainly cheerful.” Byte was actually very curious as to what exactly this mason was and where he came from. Of course he knew asking all the questions he wanted to ask would come off as rude.

”My name is Byte. Not too creative but, it’s what friends called me. As far as I can tell, the weather certainly looks nice.” Based off of their reply, Byte could safely assume Mason was his actual name. It was a name he had heard before, though it was a human one. After the little introduction, Byte noticed the notebook they were holding. He held back the urge to simply scan it and asked, ”What have you been up to out here? Were you taking notes for something?” He made a bit of an exaggerated motion towards the notebook, tilting his front half down towards it.
