"Yeeeeeeeeep!"

Maxis shook his head and sighed. He tapped his pen vigorously on the clipboard. The testing wasn't going as he planned. He expected a few failures; 10 at the most. But twenty-five unsuccessful tests in the past 24 hours? Humiliating, beside the fact there was only a limited supply of the substance most imperative to the mission.
"Incinerate this one. We used too much 115... to unpredictable." He growled to his apprentice.
The man walked over to the Grid Chamber and flicked a switch. Maxis watched the subject burn in the Test Chamber, his eyes flickering with the dancing of the flames.

"Noo!" it rasped, its voice sounding like knife on stone.

After the incineration process was complete, 3 scientists entered the chamber, completely decked with Maxis's Anti-Morbus gear. They swept away the ashes and disposed of them in the RMC.
Maxis closed his eyes and sighed.
"Infect test subject 26... and send him in. Use... 3 pints less of the 115 this time, Rechjik." he called to his apprentice.
"Yes sir," he said, then running off to his colleagues, ordering them, and coming back to Maxis's side.

Subject 26 approaching Test Chamber

The voice boomed through the speakers 3 times, then shut off. The titanium doors slid open in the plexiglass chamber, revealing a horribly gruesome sight. Scientists on the outside had to look away, but Maxis in awe, watched the grotesque creature stutter forward.
"Yes, yes," he murmured excitedly.
He wrote down the experimental code down on his notepad. And grinned excitedly. After 25 years of research, it finally payed off. This subject did not explode, become enraged, or send itself to an oblivion.
"What a joyous occasion for team SX," he cried, "job well done, everyone!"
"Daddy... is that..."
Maxis looked to his right, and saw his daughter, Samantha by his side.
"Yes, my dear, it is-" he cut himself short.
Samantha? He took a double take and startled himself.
"Who let my child into the chamber?" he roared.
"I followed you in, Daddy. I've been here the whole time! But someone was too stubborn to even notice their daughter right next to them!" she protested, one hand of her hip.
"Agris and Stan," Maxis growled.
"Sir," Rechjik called to Maxis.
Not hearing him, he continued,
"Please escort my daughter back to her room," he said, narrowing his eyes.
"He doesn't deserve this, Daddy!" she cried.
The two men, Agris and Stan, took her by the arms and dragged her back to Maxis's house.
"You would never zombify mom!" she screamed before the doors closed.
Dr. Maxis looked down, and closed his eyes. The electrifying pain shot through his body. Elena. Just the thought of her name sent chills up his back. The long obsidian luscious hair, sea green piercing eyes, a smile brighter than the moon. All gone.
"Sir," Rechjik yelled, snapping his mentor back into reality.
"Apprentice, do not interrupt me when I a-"
"Subject 26," Rechjik stammered, "he has escaped."

Samantha struggled in the men's grasps and tried kicking them a few times. Its no use, she remembered, Agris and Stan are Dad's inventions. Agris is made of Iridium. Stan is made of Tungsten. Now stop before you break a limb trying to dent them.
"Let me go!" she said writhing around.
The two men were silent, and when they approached the door the man who went by the name Stan opened her door.
"Be a good girl now," Agris said, closing Samantha's door.
"I am no dog, guard!" she called in escalating anger.
She listened to their heavy footsteps as they walked away.
"Oooh you two will regret this," she growled, "I am so going to tamper with your daily oil."
She slammed her fists on the polished wood. She twisted and tugged at the knob, but it was no use, the men locked the door from the outside. After slamming her fist a few more times, she gave up and turned around. She ran to her bed and stuffed her face in her pillow. She suffocated her sobs and clutched the pillow.
Samantha, I should tell you, is not one to cry.
"How d-dare he create such a m-monstrosity out of my-"
She broke into a sudden cry not able to stand completing the whole sentance. Suddenly, for a second through her sobbing she heard a raspy, breathing noise. She slowly turned herself around and her jaw hung in horror. There, perched on her bureau was him.
"Daddy problems?" it rasped.

----- Same time, at the Lab -----

"What exactly do you mean, "escaped"?" Maxis growled, grabbing Rechjik by the tie.
Rechjik at first flinched, but then he knew Maxis had no intentions of hurting him. He was powered by fear. Intimidation.
"Subject 26 has... amazingly teleported itself out of the chamber. It could be anywhere. From this lab, to any state, to any country, to anywhere in the world." he said keeping calm.
Dr. Maxis stuck his hand in his and rubbed hard. This was a complusive act he usually did when he was agitated or in fear. He was now dealing with a untrained zombie which could lead to... well lets not go there. A wild zombie was on the loose, which had to be contained. Maxis, overwhelmed, sat down in his chair and rubbed his head harder. Then an idea came to him.
"Did you chip the subject before infecting it?"
The scientist glanced at eachother, hoping one of them would say yes. As soon as they figured out nobody had bothered to chip the zombie, they cringed and waited for their punishment. Maxis only looked at them, as if expecting this to happen. He sighed and said,
"Jonathan, please get the Aliusutor fired up. If fragments of the 115 show up on the chart, we will know where it had been or even better. Where it is."
The man named Jonathan rushed over to the Grid Chamber and pulled three levers. The screen turned black, and the grid lines turned a neon green. Maxis walked up to the screen, and waited for it to scan the area for parts of 115. When they finally appeared, Maxis immediately scanned the dots and their locations. Jonathan, usually more on the clueless side, noticed something in particular.
"Sir.." he whispered, eyeing one dot in particular.
"Haven't we had enough interruptions in one day?" Maxis muttered, "What could it possibly be, Jonathan?"
Ignoring the admin's negative attitude, he asked politely,
"Do you store 115 in your daughter's bedroom?"
Maxis looked at Jonathan in disbelief.
"Do I store 115 in my daughter's bedroom," he repeated, "And risk my daughter's life? Have you lost your marbles?"
"Explain this."
He pointed his finger at the dot that he had been watching, Maxis's eyes followed. He mouthed the words 'My God'. Maxis hit the red button, and the sirens blared. He tangled his way through the commotion and headed for his house.
"Hold on babygirl!" he yelled, "Daddy's coming!"

As the message ended with a beep Serena snapped her phone shut guiltily. She was sure she had heard steps outside her door. It would be extremely embarrassing if anyone found out she was calling Justin still.
His message wasn't very special, but every time she heard it, it made everything seem all right. For a moment, she could beleive that he wasn't dead, only very busy. He'd call her back soon, she would hear his voice again. He'd tell her it was a bad dream, if only she could just wake up.
