Thorn merely gave a grunt at the tom's words, not particularily caring what the cat's name was. But after a moment he paused in his eating of the thrush to mutter a rather rough, "Thorn," before resuming. The rumbling purr annoyed him, but he said nothing.
After a while, he glanced up when the peaceful silence was interrupted by the sudden noise of Honey's rumbling. He watched silently as he dragged the pelt out, ears twitching. He supposed he didn't really expect the tom to sleep on the hard floor. He was suprised that Honey had noticed the pelt, though, because Thorn hadn't even known it was there.
Motioning for him to set the pelt down a good tail-length from his own, Thorn returned his attention to the thrush. Pausing for a moment to tear a wing off, he tossed it to Honey.
He finished the bird off with a few more bites, then began to groom himself, cleaning his whiskers and smoothing down his ruffled chest fur. Then, without another glance at the other tom, Thorn turned,
flopped on his side, closed his eyes, and slid into sleep.

Seemingly surprised at Thorn’s generosity in regard to his prey, Honey cocked his head to one side again. He looked down at the wing as the patched tom groomed himself, looking back up to see his new denmate having settled down for the night. Before permitting Thorn to drift into what could have been a peaceful night’s rest, Honey gingerly set his Twoleg pelt down a whisker away from Thorn’s nose. It smelled musty, as did everything in this weathered, mildewed den that the toms were to share, but it was nonetheless an upgrade from Thorn’s current makeshift nest. Thorn could no doubt feel that blue-eyed stare upon him again as Honey sat in wait.

Thorn opened one eye after a moment and stared at the pelt a mouse length from his nose then opened both his eyes and moved his gaze upwards to look at Honey questioningly.
"I said to put it over there," he mewed, not quite understanding what Honey was trying to do. He held the tom's gaze a little longer before flipping over on his other side and closing his eyes once more.

(no worries! sometimes there's just not much to say, esp if they're just having a conversation. or sometimes you just get busy, no need to apologize!)

"But it's for you," Honey mewed, an almost undetectable hint of irritation in his soft voice. After hesitating, watching just a moment longer, he padded away softly to sniff gingerly at the other parts of the den to find a suitable place to sleep. He winced back at some objects, eyes squinted, as if offended by the scent he came across. When his nose touched a particularly wet floorboard, Honey flinched back again, shaking his head to clear the sensation. The golden tom glanced over his shoulder to the other cat, ears still drawn back a hair.

(Sorry this took so long! I had some things to take care of, and life got crazy busy )

Thorn's head lifted and he opened his eyes once more, pushing himself up on two paws to stare at the golden tom.
"What?" he mewed, a little confused. He sniffed at the pelt, then watched Honey explore around the den.
"That's uh... that's nice of you," he muttered, a little embarrassed now. "But you can have it, I'm fine."
He waved his tail at the tom, motioning for him to come take the pelt. Thorn did have a sense of compassion sometimes, and he didn't want the stranger sleeping somewhere undesirable, though he was a bit touched that he had offered it to him instead. Thoughts like that certainly didn't cross Thorn's mind very often, if at all.

Hesitantly, Honey began to pad over to the other tom, head ducked down slightly. The last of the evening's light glinted in his eyes which watched carefully for any sign of a trick or trap. As the shadows in the den grew longer and began to meld into night, it became ever more difficult to discern the golden tabby's subtle movements. He bent down, eyes still glued to Thorn, to sniff the pelt. "You...'re sure?" he inquired slowly.

"Yes, I'm sure," Thorn replied, a little irritated. His tail flicked back and forth, causing dust to stir in the air. Turning away once more, he put his head on his paws but didn't close his eyes, instead staring at the far wall of the den, where a beetle was slowly making its way up the side. His tail twitched again before lying still, and a yawn came from his jaws suddenly, surprising him.
"Remember," he mewed to Honey, "You're leaving tomorrow." He wondered where the tom had come from. Thorn was never good at discerning cats' origins, but he assumed the tom hadn't grown up his entire life in the wild, like he had. He certainly didn't have the look. Or maybe he just took better care of himself than Thorn did. Shaking his head to clear these thoughts, he closed his eyes and hoped he could finally get some rest.

It's no surprise, the assumption Thorn made about Honey in regard to his history. The tom kept his soft golden coat meticulously groomed, and had a general air of naïvety about him — strange coming from an adult cat, especially one who seemed to live outside now. But you don't live out here your whole life without developing a tolerance for the little annoyances of life... Right?
At Thorn's words, "leaving tomorrow," Honey appeared to duck his head before taking the pelt in his teeth again. He pulled it up with him, took one last glance at Thorn, and moved to make his nest in the corner where he'd found the pelt. It took Honey a while to settle in, however it was too dark to say what he might've been up to (other than some audible grooming). Eventually, he fell asleep, his eyes fluttering shut after watching Thorn for a bit in the dark.

Thorn's dreams were muffled and confusing. There were elements of normal dreams- hunting, running through the forest, fighting others for shelter. But mixed in all these was the presence of a strange yet familiar cat that crouched, ran, fought alongside him. And still, every time he turned to study the other cat's face the cat wavered and vanished. Golden beams of sunlight shone on the forest floor, reflecting the color of the one thing he could see- the stranger's eyes.
With a start, Thorn woke up from his sleep, heart racing for an unknown reason to him. As dreams often went, he couldn't remember what had transpired, and all he remembered was a feeling of loneliness.
Shaking his head, he leaned down to furiously groom his ruffled chest, trying to calm his mind. After stretching his cramped muscles, he turned and started to leave the den before remembering Honey and glancing at him over his shoulder, appearing to still be asleep. He paused for a brief moment then left the den to find breakfast.

As Thorn went to exit the Twoleg den in search of a morning meal, he stumbled upon something lying near his nest. Upon closer inspection, it could be seen to be a vole, neatly dispatched and laid down between Thorn's makeshift nest and the den's entrance.
The soft sounds of Thorn waking up and beginning about his day made their way to Honey's ears, which twitched as he was brought out of his sleep. After the other tom turned away and began to pad away, Honey opened his eyes and watched as the cat noticed the vole waiting for him. His eyes flitted sleepily back and forth between Thorn and a particularly nice branch swaying in the breeze outside.
