There was a new sort of energy in the camp. The last moon had been busy, with cleaning up the center of their new
garden, planting seeds and tending to the sprouts on the side of building dens and marking the new territorial borders.
They'd already discovered that they had neighbors, a small group across the river to the west. Promisedrose had met
with the leader briefly, and the two had parted ways in friendship.

But now, instead of a general tiredness and determination to get things done, the camp was buzzing with excitement.

Lotusseed had determined that Callashell was due to give birth soon, and the entire Court was energized at the
prospect of meeting the Courts first courtborn.

As for Callashell herself, the knight was nervous, of course, but she was also stressed, waiting for the kitting to start.
Lotusseed had been a blessing from The Kindness themselves, patiently helping Callashell with her preparations and
answering whatever questions the mother-to-be had.

Promisedrose found herself staring up at the starry sky. She hadn't really known why her paws had led her out of her
nest this late at night, surely the amount of pacing and rebuilding she'd been doing lately would have her begging
to fall asleep. And here she was, shortly after moon-high, as awake as if she'd gotten a full nights sleep.

"Evos, if you're watching," Promisedrose said quietly. "Please bless that Callashell's kitting goes safely. Lotusseed is a
gifted healer, no doubt, but...her supplies are small. And Callashell's will be the first litter born to the Court. If
anything were to go wrong...I fear it would set a somber tone for the Court for many moons. Let things go safely,
guide Lotusseed's paws...please, let the first Courtborne be born."

the territories are in full bloom during the hottest time of the year. prey is bountiful during
this time of the year, and herbs can be found in abundance. kittings will be handled smoothly,
and cats are still around who might be in need of a new home. however, predators are also
fond of the warm weather, and cats who overwork themselves may find themselves suffering
from dehydration and exhaustion.

hunting patrol results
• saffron's patrol caught x1 shrew, x1 pike, x1 snake, and x1 mouse. during the patrol, rick tore a claw while trying to chase a shrew. though he tried his best to shake it off, his paw began to bleed and the rest of the patrol hurried him back to camp. there, the medicine cats decided that they needed to treat his bleeding and try to stave off potential infections by treating him with x1 cobweb, x1 stinging nettle, and x1 moon of rest.
• steelpipe's patrol caught x2 cod, x1 frog, and x1 mouse.
• skadi's patrol caught x1 snake. though they only managed a small catch, the patrol decided to turn back early after mel scratched their paw pad open. though the wound stopped bleeding quickly, the medicine cats made the decision that it would be best for mel to take x1 moon of rest to ensure a smooth recovery.

• unfortunately, the influx in new apprentices in the training hollow distracted dulce from her training session. when tangy sent her out to try out a hunting crouch with real prey, dulce was unable to remember exactly how her mentor told her to hold her tail, and a poorly-timed flick of her tail led her prey back into hiding. at last, tangy decided to call it a day and told dulce to get some rest. even though dulce failed to learn a skill, she can try again next moon.
• pip and teeny passed their training sessions and learned their respective skills!

The Court hovered anxiously in the clearing, only leaving to attend their duties when shooed away by Peonystem. During the early hours of the following morning, just before the first rays of the sun colored the sky, Lotusseed stepped out of the nursery and reported that Callashell had delivered two healthy kits with no complications. Saltclan welcomes Redfur.
Newstar & Sunstone were crossing back over the river - they'd met with a lovely new group of cats on the eastern bank - when they were accosted by bright orange ball of fur. "Hey you!" she yowled. "I'm lookin' for a scrawny brown cat with half a tail. You seen him?" Newstar unsheathed their claws, and Sunstone's tail puffed out. Does this molly have it out for Pineclaw? Before they could respond, the strange cat sighed heavily and sat down in the shallows. "I knew it. Ain't no cat seen him," she mewed pitifully. "I looked all over town and the harbor and now the river, and he's just gone. I never should'a left..." Sunstone's fur relaxed and he stepped up to her. "Now, hold on. I don't know about 'scrawny'," he said. "But we did recently come across a cat with a half-tail." The orange molly leapt up, looking at Sunstone for all the world like he was Christmas come early. "Did you really?! Do you know where he is? Oh, I've missed him so much! I never should'a left."

The cat, who introduced herself as Red, followed Newstar and Sunstone back to camp. Newstar went to find Pineclaw, who came bolting out of the newly-constructed warrior den (a conglomeration of driftwood and palm branches covering a dugout) to pounce on Red. Happy caterwauling filled the air as Pineclaw exclaimed that he thought he'd never see her again, and Red declared, again, that she never should have left.

That same evening, Newstar stood atop the jonboat and named Redfur a warrior of Saltclan; that night, Redfur happily made her nest with Pineclaw in the warrior den.

Pineclaw & Redfur patrol along the Thunderpath.
The two cats were practically attached at the pelt as they trotted along Saltclan's northern border. They barely noticed the twolegs crowding the paths. Pineclaw explained everything he knew about clan life, and Redfur told him about all the places she explored while she was away.

Glassfang & Whitepaw hunt near the Delta.
"Don't be nervous, now," said Glassfang. "You're not being assessed, and I picked a nice easy spot for us today." Whitepaw tried to hide her twitching tail. "Who's nervous?" she meowed a little too loudly. "I'm only responsible for feeding the clan. No problem!" Glassfang purred. "Not just you," she said. "We're each responsible for doing our part." She playfully batted her paw at her apprentice. "So don't screw up, or it's on my hide, too!" Whitepaw dodged the swipe and laughed as the two cats slunk into the underbrush.

Sunstone gathers herbs in the Dunes.
The sky had been threatening rain all day. Sunstone skimmed across the sand, looking for anything useful. He thanked the clouds for their shade and hoped he'd make it back to camp before it started storming.

Sunstone leads Newstar & Whitepaw to the Starpool.
They left camp just as the sun was beginning to set. On their way across the beach, Newstar explained how the tidewater creates the Starpool, and Sunstone explained how the Starclan communion would work. Whitepaw didn't say a word the whole way there. Newstar suspected they were as nervous as the apprentice was.

The last rays of dusk disappeared, and the cats sat at the edge of the Starpool. Sunstone settled into a comfortable crouch and dipped the tip of his tongue into the crystal clear water. Whitepaw followed suit, as instructed. Newstar watched them for a few moments. The two cats were very still. Was something happening? Newstar looked to the sky, where First Star was just beginning to shine. "I hope this works," they said to themself. They laid down, tucked their paws underneath them, and touched their tongue to the water.

Two small little bundles were curled at Callashell's side. One a soft orange, similar to his mother, the other had a
swirl of orange, gray and white rippling across her pelt.

Perhaps the most pleased cat in the Court, was not the new mother, but Lotusseed, who had not needed to use her
prepared herbs. "The spirits certainly shined over us," she purred to Promisedrose, who had come to greet the
newest members of the Court. "I'm going to go put these away, Callashell, the last instruction I have for you is to
get some rest."

"No argument here," Callashell rumbled, her voice raspy but happy.

"Before you fall asleep," Promisedrose interrupted- sending an apologetic glance at the light glare Lotusseed sent
her. "What are their names? That way I can tell the Court."

Callashell hummed softly, nosing the calico first "Bumble" and pressing her nose to the ginger tom added "Pollen"

"Wonderful names," Promisedrose purred, dipping her head to the new family. "We'll leave you in peace now, and
make sure the rest of the Court does as well."

"Enjoy your quiet," Lotusseed purred "once they start growing you'll miss it."

Callashell laughed softly "Just till they're weaned," she joked. "Then they'll be Cordy's problem."

"He seemed pretty able to handle himself," Promisedrose mused, recalling the elderly tom she and Peonystem had met.

Peonystem nodded. "And it is spring, the season of life and growth, I find it hard to think he would struggle too much."

"Then we're agreed?" Promisedrose asked.

"We are. We'll keep an eye out for him if he changes his mind, but we won't go out of our way to look for him."
