Thorn - grey and white tom who lives in an abandoned Twoleg nest, and generally tends to stay away from Clan cats. He is a very quiet/reserved car and usually doesn't interact with others unless he has to. He has a good moral compass but has no problem fighting- and viciously- to protect his home or those he loves.

Honey - golden tabby tom looking for a bodyguard of sorts. he's been living as a loner with his half-brother for a few moons after being hopping between Twoleg houses, but would much rather find someone else to take care of him. he's very quiet and doesn't speak much, and he acts... strangely. not overly likable, but loyal for a price. he's just a little guy, you can't blame him...

Finally, Honey had figured out where this mysterious "Thorn" cat lived. This absolutely seemed like someone he should check out. Honey had heard of the tom's reputation for fighting (though, really, the cats he had heard it from may have been exaggerating his notoriety, and Honey simply did not notice the subtext). He sat in wait outside Thorn's alleged dwelling as the sun fell deeper in the sky and the twisting shadows cast by the trees grew longer. His fluffy tail tucked neatly over his front paws, Honey waited, staring silently into the evening, trying desperately to ignore a persistent birdcall coming from somewhere above him.

Thorn screwed his eyes nearly shut as the rays of the setting sun washed over him. He pushed through some of the brush, the grass flattened from many a time of him traversing the path. The thrush he had caught dangled limply from his muzzle, and he couldn't wait to eat it. He never ate outside, not after the one time a fox had caught him and nearly killed him before heading off with his catch. Besides, his den would be nice and cool as the evening wore on, and he preferred the cold to the blazing sun that shone at the height of greenleaf.
As he cleared the trees and started up the overgrown gravel path to his den, an unfamiliar scent made him slow. He continued on cautiously, wary.
When he got within sight of his den, there was indeed someone unfamiliar, sitting as if waiting for him. Fur bristling ever so slightly, he approached the cat, wondering for all the world what he wanted.

As the other tom emerged from the underbrush, the setting sun illuminating his fur and turning the white parts a shade of gold, Honey made no move save for a slight cock of his head. His wide and inexpressive eyes wandered over Thorn's patched pelt as if studying him, but for what reason was indiscernible. After a few moments, Honey brought his gaze up to meet the other cat's, and simply stared at him, waiting. It would be enough to make a regular cat uncomfortable — the strange stiffness and his willingness to meet a stranger's gaze so intensely — but Honey was unfortunately unaware of any of these proprieties, or of the reasoning behind Thorn's bristling fur. Looking someone in the eye is a polite greeting, no?

After a few moments of awkward silence and waiting for the other cat to say something, Thorn dropped his thrush so he could speak.
"What do you want?" He tried to say it like a simple question with no hostility, but it definitely came out as more of a growl.
Well, whatever. Maybe if he seemed threatening enough, the stranger would leave. Perhaps he was here to take the den from him. It certainly wouldn't be the first time it had happened. Thorn shifted his gaze away from the tom's unnerving stare, pelt still bristling in wary defiance and waiting for the other cat to say something.

Honey's ear flicks once at the soft sound of the thrush dropping onto the gravel path in front of him, and his gaze falls to the bird for a moment before returning to the cat before him. His expression is unwavering, seemingly unaffronted by the other tom's growl, nor aware of his apparent discomfort.
Though Honey's not much of a talker, he knows this question warrants an answer. Well, a simple one should suffice for now: "I would like to live with you," he explains, his meow delicate to match his soft (cute?) appearance — though at the same time, blunt, to match his... unusual temperament.

Thorn couldn't stop a snort of disbelief from escaping him. Was this cat serious?
Apparently so. Thorn took a moment to study the tom, wondering why he could possibly want to do that. Thorn couldn't even imagine what it would be like to share the den with someone else. He had been by himself as long as he could remember.
"Sorry," he mewed, not really meaning it. "You can't do that." He bent down to pick up the thrush and then stepped around the tom to enter the den.

There is a hesitation, then a soft padding of pawsteps behind Thorn as he walks into his den. "I can hunt. And I can tidy up your den. And I can take care of you after you get in fights," Honey continues, a hint of something that could be desperation or petulance in his voice. The softening evening light seeps into the den through cracks in the walls, giving a gentle glow to the cats as they make their way inside the dilapidated structure, picking over fallen boards and dust-covered boxes. Honey stays a respectful paw-step behind, or maybe he's simply staying just far enough away that a slash of Thorn's claws would miss him. His blue eyes are wide still, potentially evoking a sense of... what is that, pity?

Thorn was irritated hearing the tom follow him inside. "I can hunt perfectly well," he mewed through a mouthful of thrush, "my den is fine, and I can take care of myself."
He reached his nest, a worn and moth-eaten Twoleg pelt, and set down his prey. When he turned around to see the tom still standing there, a frustrated growl escaped him.
"Look, I don't know why you want to stay here, or who you are, but I've been living on my own just fine without anyone else," he mewed. He glanced up at the darkening sky peeking through the gaps in the walls, glanced back at the other cat for a long moment, then turned to settle in his nest.
"You can stay here for a night, if you want," he muttered, relenting, "since its getting dark. But I want you gone in the morning." He pulled his thrush closer and began to eat, without another word to the golden tom.

Honey blinks and flicks his ear, staring at the other tom unmovingly for a few heartbeats longer, trying to process all this chatter…
“My name is Honey,” he lands on after careful deliberation. A little huff escapes his nose as he sits down, wrapping his tail deliberately over his paws. As he begins to scan the room, a delicate purr begins to echo through the musty air, and his soft paws knead the ground beneath him, though his ears appear to be pinned back ever so slightly.
After a while in thought, Honey gets back up on his paws and pads over to a corner of the den, grabbing onto something with his teeth and pulling, his tail tip twitching with the effort. He produces another Twoleg pelt, this one protected from moths and the worst of the weather by virtue of being at the bottom of a pile. The pelt in his mouth, he turns back to Thorn expectantly, a subtle purr returning to his throat.
