ASHCLAN

Anna Begins - Counting Crows
It does not bother me to say this isn't love
'Cause if you don't want to talk about it, then it isn't love
And I guess I'm gonna have to live with that
But I'm sure there's something in a shade of grey or something in between
And I can always change my name if that's what you mean

Name: Redhawk
Age: 40 moons
Gender: Male
Clan: AshClan
Rank: Warrior
Background: Growing up, Redhawk was quiet and kept to himself. He didn't have many friends, nor did he have any littermates to play with. It wasn't like he was totally isolated; he grew up in a Clan, for StarClan's sake. His peers were kind enough to him. But he never truly connected with anyone, at least not on the level that his other Clanmates did with each other, and he wasn't sure why. The only cat that he felt some semblance of connection to was his mentor, Hawkeye, and that was only because Hawkeye was as reserved as he was. Hawkeye never tried to force unnatural conversations with him the way that some other cats did. Rather, the only energy he spent on Redpaw was training him to be the best warrior he could be. And with nothing else to distract him, Redpaw dedicated all of his time to just that. Any time that he wasn't sleeping or eating, he was hunting, patrolling, training. He even trained by himself when his official training sessions with Hawkeye had ended. He wanted to learn everything there was to learn, from all of the best hunting and fighting techniques, to memorizing every part of AshClan territory. He practiced climbing and swimming, and perfected how to catch each type of prey, from fish to mice to squirrels to birds. His mentor even remarked one time that he hunted like a hawk, with how fast he'd hook fish out of the river or swoop down from treetops to catch mice. And for the first time in his life, Redpaw actually felt proud.

But that was pride was stripped away one fateful day. He was on patrol with Hawkeye and a few other AshClan cats when they caught SmokeClan cats trespassing, hunting on AshClan territory. A fight quickly broke out, and before Redpaw knew it, he'd been pinned by a SmokeClan warrior. He struggled to free himself, panic rising in his throat, but the warrior held him down, and with teeth bared and a murderous look in his eyes, lunged for Redpaw's throat. This is it, Redpaw thought. He's going to kill me.

Instead, the SmokeClan tom killed Hawkeye. Redpaw's mentor had ripped the vicious warrior off his apprentice, but the tom had quickly reeled around and sunk his teeth into Hawkeye's throat instead, killing him instantly. Red, hot fury rose up within Redpaw, before sadness or even shock could affect him, and in a heartbeat, he was on the SmokeClan warrior's back. All he saw was red as he plunged his fangs into the back of the murderer's neck, while his claws wrapped around and pierced the tom's throat, ensuring his death from both sides--or so he thought. As the SmokeClan cat fell to the ground, seemingly dead and blood pooling rapidly from his wounds, the battle between the two patrols ceased, but Redpaw hardly noticed until he and his Clanmates arrived back at camp, Hawkeye's limp body in tow. Only when he heard his mentor's mate cry out in grief did the adrenaline start to wear off, and he began to process what had just happened. Hawkeye was dead, instead of him.

Redpaw was given the name Redhawk, in honor of both Hawkeye and how swiftly he avenged his mentor's death, like a hawk sinking its talons into its prey without hesitation. But though he knew the name was a great honor, he felt undeserving of it, and shame swallowed him up. That shame only grew when Redhawk was announced as the newest warrior of AshClan at the next gathering. His gaze had been traveling across the crowd of cats from both Clans, chanting his new name, when he locked eyes with him. The dark warrior, who he would come to find out was called Hollowshade. Redhawk's blood ran cold. But that's not possible! I killed him! But the scar on the tom's neck and the icy, murderous look in his eyes confirmed it. Redhawk would know that look anywhere. He wasn't sure how Hollowshade survived, but he did. And now Redhawk not only had to live with the shame of being the reason his mentor died, but also the shame of not even being able to avenge him properly. Hawkeye was gone, and Redhawk had failed to kill his murderer.

Many moons have passed since then, and the shame Redhawk feels over the whole situation has faded into the background, but never fully gone away. In an ironic twist of fate, he had a fleeting romance with a SmokeClan she-cat many moons ago. He'd met her because of how often he patrolled and guarded the border with SmokeClan ever since the incident, secretly hoping that he'd catch Hollowshade so he could rip the tom apart for good this time, or at least die trying. Instead, Redhawk had met a pretty dappled she-cat who he, against all odds, had a fleeting romance with. He couldn't explain it, but he quickly became smitten with the tortoiseshell, and she with him--or so it seemed. But that, too, had to pass, as one day the she-cat cut things off with him abruptly, and he was left alone once again. Redhawk is now more aloof than ever.

"If it's love," she said
"Then we're gonna have to think about the consequences"
But she can't stop shaking, and I can't stop touching her
And this time, when kindness falls like rain
It washes her away
And Anna begins to change her mind

Here Before - Vashti Bunyan
Once I had a child
He was wilder than moonlight
He could do it all
Like he'd been here before

Name: Cinderspots
Age: 54 moons
Gender: Female
Clan: AshClan
Rank: Warrior
Background: Cinderspots is a motherly figure, through and through. Even as an apprentice, she always loved kits and knew from an early age that she wanted some of her own. A gentle and pleasant she-cat to be around, she had several suiters, but none that caught her eye quite as much as Hawkeye did. He was stoic, a tom of few words, but hidden under his gruff exterior was a heart of gold. Cinderspots was drawn to him immediately, as he was to her, and before long the two became mates. Cinderspots's friends teased her, knowing how much she wanted to have kits, and joked that she'd be in the nursery less than a moon into her mateship with Hawkeye. An idea that Cinderspots was perfectly fine with. She loved her mate dearly, and she couldn't wait for their love to manifest in the form of new life. Even the stoic Hawkeye's gaze lit up at the mention of starting a family with his mate.

But try as they might, no kits came. Moons passed, and though she tried not to show it, Cinderspots was beginning to become disheartened at the lack of little ones in their lives, and to lose hope that they would ever have them. She tried to fill the gap in her heart by busying herself with nursery duties, tending to the queens and their kits, kit-sitting whenever their mothers needed a break, telling them stories whenever the elders were too tired, and so on. But although she loved spending time with her Clanmates' kits, none of them could fulfill her deep desire for her own.

Then, one day, everything changed. She'd had a persistent stomachache for several days, and had finally gone to the medicine den, fearing that it might be something serious. Instead, she left with the happiest news she could have received: She was expecting! At long last, StarClan had answered her prayers! She was going to be a mother! She made straight for the warriors' den to tell her mate, only to be told that he'd been sent out on border patrol. Hardly able to wait until he came back, she planted herself right at the camp entrance, planning on greeting him with the news as soon as he returned.

She sat there, waiting and waiting, for what felt like hours. At first she thought it only felt like an eternity because of how impatient she was to tell Hawkeye the good news. But as the minutes dragged on, she started to see her Clanmates exchange nervous glances and whisper to one another, "The patrol should have been back by now" and "Where are they?" And she quickly realized that the patrol was, in fact, taking an abnormally long time to return. Worry began to gnaw at her belly, and she instinctively placed a paw over it. "Don't worry, loves," she murmured to her unborn kits. "He'll be back soon."

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the patrol returned...with bedraggled, bloodied pelts and fresh wounds. Cinderspots jumped to her paws immediately, fur on end and eyes wide with anxiety, looking for Hawkeye amidst her defeated-looking Clanmates...and saw his limp, lifeless body being dragged in by the rear of the patrol. "No!" she wailed, collapsing in a heap as their Clanmates laid his body gently on the ground. Amidst her sobs, she only heard snippets of what they told her: That SmokeClan cats had been caught trespassing, that a fight had broken out, that Hawkeye had been protecting his apprentice when a SmokeClan warrior killed him. But all she could think about was the fact that he'd never get to meet his kits, and that his kits would never get to meet their father. In a single day, Cinderspots had received the best and worst news of her entire life. She had received something precious, but something equally precious had been taken away from her.

When her sons were born, Cinderspots named them after birds of prey, in honor of her beloved mate. In the end, she got what she always wanted: to be a mother. But although she loves and treasures her kits more than anything, now both adult warriors, motherhood has been bittersweet for her and a reminder of the day she lost her dear Hawkeye. She's become much more reserved than she used to be, and only seems invested in the lives of her sons.

Dreaming My Way To You - Artist Vs Poet
I've been away for some time
And I never could find the strength
The strength to rewind
But it doesn't matter tonight
I will dream you to life
Making our way through the stars
Letting down our all our guards
And no matter where you are
You live loud in my heart

Name: Kestrelflight
Age: 29 moons
Gender: Male
Clan: AshClan
Rank: Warrior
Background: Kestrelflight grew up alongside his brother, Falconfall, raised by their mother, Cinderspots. His mother told him and his brother stories of their late father, Hawkeye, from the moment they were old enough to hear them. Even though he had never met the tom who sired him in person, Kestrelflight felt like he knew him, and would often dream of him as a kit. Though Cinderspots had never described Hawkeye's appearance to her kits, Kestrelkit always saw him as a large, burly brown tabby with striking blue eyes and a deep, gruff voice. He assumed this was just his imagination, but when he described to his mother how his father appeared to him in dreams, the surprised look in Cinderspots's eyes told him that these were no ordinary dreams.

In fact, Hawkeye wasn't the only cat to appear in Kestrelkit's dreams. He frequently dreamed he was surrounded by starry cats that, in the dream world, he seemed to know better than his Clanmates in the real world--a pretty white-and-ginger she-cat; a brown tabby tom with bright amber eyes; a regal-looking silver tom; a silver spotted she-cat who looked a bit like his mother; even a tom who looked just like him; and many, many more. But when he woke up, he could never remember who these cats were. When he spoke of these dreams to his mother, she was sure that meant he had a connection to StarClan, and that he was destined to be a medicine cat. Not only would it explain how he seemed to know things that he had no way of knowing, but it also made sense given his personality. As young as he was, Kestrelkit had always been very intuitive and empathetic, seemingly able to sense how others were feeling and doing his best to lift the spirits of others whenever they were down.

But when she discussed the possibility of her son becoming a medicine cat apprentice with AshClan's then-medicine cat, the healer simply told her that they would have received a sign from StarClan by then if Kestrelkit were to be their apprentice. Cinderspots seemed a bit frustrated at this, insisting there was something special about her son, but nothing ever came of it, and Kestrelkit was fine with that. He was looking forward to training as a warrior alongside his brother and his denmates.

Before long, Kestrelkit became Kestrelpaw and Falconkit, Falconpaw. It was during their apprenticeship that Kestrelpaw began to sense feelings of resentment from his brother. He knew those feelings had started when they were just kits, when their mother had suggested that Kestrelpaw might have a special connection to their ancestors, and that Falconpaw had started to feel left out. Now that they were on their way to being warriors, Kestrelpaw was also starting to outshine Falconpaw in the training department. Though not quite as skilled as some other AshClan warriors had been when they were just apprentices--such as Redhawk, Kestrelpaw's father's last apprentice before passing--it was clear that Kestrelpaw had the upper paw on poor Falconpaw, who often missed prey and was bested by other apprentices during battle training. Kestrelpaw tried to encourage his dark-furred brother and do whatever he could to raise the smoke-colored tom's spirits, but, much to Kestrelpaw's dismay, Falconpaw began to drift further and further. During this time, Kestrelpaw began to grow closer to their kithood friend, Foxpaw, which only seemed to anger Falconpaw more. Even though the dark tom never said anything, Kestrelpaw could sense jealousy emanating off of his brother every time he and Foxpaw spent time together.

The last straw came when the brothers had their assessments. Kestrelpaw soared right through his, passing with flying colors and earning the name Kestrelflight...while Falconpaw failed his, and was forced to remain an apprentice. Kestrelpaw, not wanting to leave Falconpaw behind, had even offered to refuse his warrior ceremony until Falconpaw could join him. But this only angered Falconpaw more. "Oh, yes, that's just what I need," Falconpaw had said sarcastically. "Just another reason for our Clanmates to love you and pity me. 'Look at what a good brother Kestrelpaw is! Putting off his warrior ceremony so he can let his failure of a brother catch up to him!' No, thanks." He had stormed off before his brother could even respond, and what was meant to be a happy day for the pair of toms turned into one of sadness and resentment. Kestrelflight felt horrible enough that his brother wouldn't be becoming a warrior alongside him, but what made it even worse was that, amidst the cheers and chants of his new name, Falconpaw remained silent, glaring coldly at Kestrelflight from the back of the crowd.

Falconpaw passed his warrior assessment and earned the name Falconfall about a moon later, and Kestrelflight had hoped that now that they were both warriors, they might be able to rebuild their relationship. But his hopes were quickly dashed, as Falconfall showed absolutely no interest in his brother, much to their mother's chagrin, who loved her sons dearly despite their differences and only wished for them to get along. Despite knowing his efforts are in vain, Kestrelflight still tries to strike up a conversation with Falconfall from time to time, but has mostly given up. He doesn't let this get him down however, and still maintains a cheerful, laid-back attitude and a bright sense of humor, just another thing for Falconfall to envy him for.

So fragile, yet so devious, she continues to seem

Forever

Name: Falconfall
Age: 29 moons
Gender: Male
Clan: AshClan
Rank: Warrior
Background: Between him and Kestrelflight, Falconfall thinks it's very fitting that he is the darker-furred of the two, considering how overshadowed he's been by his brother their whole lives. From the time they were kits, Kestrelflight was always getting all of the attention: their mother's, their Clanmates', and, perhaps most importantly, Foxbreeze's. Having grown up alongside the ginger she-cat, Falconfall found himself taken with her from a young age. He couldn't quite place why, but he always felt inexplicably drawn to her, though lacking the confidence and charm his brother did, he was never sure how to approach her about his feelings, or if it would even be worth the effort. After all, she and Kestrelflight were already fairly close. What chance did he stand? This was Falconfall's mindset for a long time, until he finally became a warrior. The resentment that's been bubbling up inside of him all these moons has finally come to a boil, and Falconfall is determined to best Kestrelflight at something, and to take all the love and attention that should have been his all these moons.

Name: Creekclaw
Age: 37 moons
Gender: Male
Clan: SmokeClan
Rank: Warrior
Background: Creekclaw's life was plagued with death from the start. A bad bout of greencough was going around the Clan when he was born, and unfortunately, both his parents caught it. He and his two brothers were born sick, and his littermates quickly succumbed to the illness. His father soon followed, and his mother lasted just long enough to nurse her only remaining son, tiny and sickly as he was. She managed to hold on until another pregnant queen gave birth and was able to take over nursing Creekkit, and passed not long after. The foster queen's litter was stillborn, and so she had plenty of milk for poor little Creekkit, who was still quite weak and suspected to not live much longer than his family. Yet somehow, the little tom-kit pulled through, and began to grow stronger week by week. But as fate would have it, not long after he had been weaned, the queen who had nursed him had gone out for a walk by herself and was killed by a fox. Now truly an orphan, Creekkit became incredibly closed-off. He'd felt sad when his foster mother was killed, but quickly realized that he did not like feeling sad, and vowed not to feel it again. He became numb and deliberately avoided becoming close with anyone, so as to avoid feeling any sort of sadness ever again.

When it came time for him to start his warrior training, he was apprenticed to a pitch-black tom called Hollowshade, who was known for being a particularly aggressive warrior. As it turns out, aggressive warriors also make aggressive mentors, and Creekpaw figured that out almost immediately. Hollowshade pushed him to the edge, training him in moves far too advanced--and far too savage--for such a new apprentice. He didn't just teach him how to fight--he taught him how to kill. He often used unsheathed claws during training sessions, and instructed his apprentice to do the same, and their training sessions were much longer and more frequent than those of other mentor-apprentice duos. Creekpaw hated training with Hollowshade at first, but as time went on, he realized that the dark warrior's harsh methods were proving successful. Though the process had been grueling, Creekpaw had gone from a scrawny little apprentice to a muscular, nearly warrior-sized tom in a matter of moons. And that wasn't the only change. Creekpaw was starting to adopt Hollowshade's cold, brutal attitude as well. He had been withdrawn before, but now he had detached himself so far from emotion and from any other cat that, at times, he questioned whether he'd ever have the capacity to care about anyone again. But that was what he'd wanted all along...wasn't it?

The day came for Creekpaw to finally test his battle skills out for real. He'd been out on patrol with Hollowshade and a few other warriors, and he'd gone after a squirrel, chasing it right into AshClan territory. An AshClan patrol caught them, and a fight quickly ensued. Creekpaw was surprised with himself, with how strong he was; he managed to hold his own against a senior warrior, Hawkeye, with no problem. But just as he was about to land another heavy blow to the warrior's head, he noticed, just beyond Hawkeye, that Hollowshade had a ginger apprentice pinned to the ground, his teeth bared as he prepared to lunge for the apprentice's throat. Creekpaw recognized his mentor's intent to kill the apprentice almost immediately, having been trained to kill himself, and this realization made him freeze momentarily. Something in Creekpaw's eyes must have clued Hawkeye in on what he saw, for a moment later the AshClan warrior whirled around, breaking out of his fight with Creekpaw and lunging towards Hollowshade to pull him off the ginger apprentice. The next series of events flew by in a blur, before Creekpaw could even realize what had happened: Hollowshade killed Hawkeye. The red apprentice leaped on Hollowshade and sank teeth and claws into his neck, seemingly killing him. The battle ceased. The patrols went their separate ways, AshClan with Hawkeye's body in tow, SmokeClan with Hollowshade's. And Creekpaw felt numb.

Somehow, against all odds, Hollowshade survived the attack, to the surprise of all his Clanmates. Creekpaw didn't have much of a chance to be surprised, probably because he hadn't even had time to process what had happened, or that his mentor had nearly died. The apprentice wasn't exactly sure what he felt, but something about what he'd seen in Hollowshade that day unnerved him.

Be with you everyday, if I didn't have to be honest;
But let's be honest -
I'm honestly not gonna be honest,

Just 'cause I kissed you once,
That doesn't mean I love you -
But it also doesn't mean that I'm gonna forget about you;
But let's forget it, I get it, you regret it;

I liked you better with the lights off -
Because I couldn't see the end.

𝙷 𝙸 𝚂 𝚃 𝙾 𝚁 𝚈
mushroomkit, emberkit, and houndkit started life in a cold world. a particularly harsh leaf-bare was tormenting the clan, and a blizzard covered their home in snow. the three kits' own father, redfur, would die during their kithood of hypothermia while trying to help keep the clan fed. a few cats would starve, including their mother, frogleap. before even three moons of age, the three kits were orphans, experiencing the harshest winter smokeclan had ever seen. the queen who suckled the kits resented them, though as the warrior code dictates a kit in need cannot be abandoned. a few long weeks after their mother passed, the blizzard subsided, and the forest began to thaw. the kits grew with the lengthening days, and soon enough, the clan was strongly recovering from the affair.
by the time the kits were six moons, the cats of smokeclan were still thin, but eager to return to a happier way of life. mushroompaw was apprenticed to an older she-cat, cloudsong, who insisted she's vowed to devote her entire life to smokeclan, and therefore would never join the elders' den. mushroompaw felt slighted at first - in no way did cloudsong seem to compare to the younger, fitter warriors of smokeclan. soon enough, mushroompaw found herself a fool - cloudsong was as skilled as any younger cat, agile as a weasel. the old cat had more than skill to share: a lifetime of wisdom and knowledge of the clan's history and territory came with knowing cloudsong. soon enough, the white cat became a mother-figure to mushroompaw, for the first time in her life. mushroompaw often found herself trying hard to impress the old warrior, though she still made time for her littermates. emberpaw struggled with his training, so the sisters took it upon themselves to help him out, along with another apprenticed named willowpaw, who was clearly smitten with the scrappy young tom. houndpaw and emberpaw were often out training together, but mushroompaw didn't mind - she enjoyed every moment spent with cloudsong. since cloudsong's younger sibling was willowpaw's mentor, the two she-cats often trained together, and soon they were the best of friends.
as time went on, mushroompaw became mushroomdapple. her life was full: houndfang had joined her in the warriors' den, and soon after willowshade, with emberdusk only a couple of moons behind. houndfang had taken a mate, and emberdusk had - to no cat's surprise - begun a life with willowshade. mushroomdapple enjoyed romantic encounters of her own, though she kept these close to her chest - she'd sparked a romance with an ashclan tom, so best to keep it hidden, she thought. for awhile, life for the young warriors was as good as it could be.
after the death of houndfang, everything changed. the poor young warrior had joined a patrol in driving a badger away from their territory, but received an injury that quickly became infected, taking her life. mushroomdapple and emberdusk were beside themselves with grief - as was houndfang's mate, a tom named hollowshade. it seemed losing houndfang caused something in the tom to just...snap. he became aggressive, reckless, and shockingly, obsessed with mushroomdapple. the young warrior wasn't sure if it was because she bore the same tortoiseshell coat as her sister, or perhaps their idiosyncrasies were just that similar, but shortly after her sister's death, hollowshade simply wouldn't leave her alone. this behavior progressed into something scary quicker than mushroomdapple could have imagined; soon, she wasn't able to go on a patrol without hollowshade appearing at her side to volunteer to join, or even walk to the river for a cool drink without him inviting himself along. when she insisted she didn't need company, the way his long claws sank in and out of the earth while he spoke always changed her mind. mushroomdapple found herself changing, too - she was no longer excited for life, eager to prove herself and make cloudsong proud. darkness was ebbing in, and only a moon after houndfang's death, the she-cat agreed to be hollowshade's mate. after all, hollowshade was a good warrior, and mushroomdapple had no reason to actually believe he was dangerous. at one point, the she-cat realized it may be out of pity that she'd taken him as a mate - the tom had to have been lonely, after all, with houndfang gone, and hollowshade acted enough like a gentleman. she was, however, still seeing her ashclan tom - the true love of her life. mushroomdapple did carry a certain amount of guilt over the situation, but she resolved herself to believe she was doing hollowshade a favor by being his mate and keeping her true feelings a secret, and that was good enough for her - after all, what cat would be suspicious when she had a mate in smokeclan already? while emberdusk tried to discuss the matter with mushroomdapple, certain her choice of mate was betraying houndfang's memory, mushroomdapple brushed him off - luckily, the only cat that knew her secret was willowshade, and she was able to convinve her mate to leave it alone.
moons went on like this, with mushroomdapple entertaining hollowshade, all the while meeting her ashclan lover. her feelings only grew for the tom, while hollowshade only became more of a danger to himself. it seemed his paranoia would only worsen, until mushroomdapple found it harder and harder to sneak off. tension was growing between herself and the situation she had created. this only worsened when mushroomdapple found out she was carrying kits - but not those of her current mate. she was certain the litter she carried was of her ashclan tom, as she'd insisted to hollowshade she wasn't ready for a life in the nursery, and that having a family could come when they were older. the news sent mushroomdapple into a spiral. she could hardly sleep or eat, wondering what would become of the kit - could she pass it off as hollowshade's? if he found out - would he hurt her kit, would he hunt down the kit's father? mushroomdapple was certain hollowshade would never physically harm her, but she couldn't guarantee the safety of her litter or the tom she loved. with a heavy heart, she concocted a plan, going to her best friend in the world.
it was willowshade who proposed that mushroomdapple never even join the queens in the nursery. the two agreed that when the time came, willowshade would claim the kit as her own, claiming that she never even knew she was pregnant. in turn, mushroomdapple would break things off with the ashclan cat, without ever letting the tom know she was carrying his kit.
luckily for mushroomdapple, a queen's first litter is usually small. mushroomdapple was hardly showing by the time she reached turn, her belly easily passed off as the fattening of green-leaf prey. she gave birth outside of smokeclan's territory, with willowshade and emberdusk by her side on a moon-lit night. her litter contained only one kit: a tiny ginger tabby she-kit.
as the three got back to camp, helping willowshade settle into the nursery, mushroomdapple's heart almost couldn't take it. her daughter was a beautiful she-cat, and mushroomdapple thought the love she felt for her might be too overwhelming. as she slunk back to the warriors' den for some well-deserved rest, the only thought on the she-cat's mind as she slipped into dreamless sleep was how she felt she was failing her kit.
for almost a moon, mushroomdapple visited willowshade and her kit everyday. she never dared get too close; she was afraid if she snuggled the kit close to her belly that the ruse would be up, that she'd crack under the need to claim her kit. all this attention she was giving the kit didn't sit well with hollowshade. soon enough the tom was making off-color comments and accusations. he began scrutinizing the attention she gave every tom in the clan, even trying to isolate her from her own brother. with a sinking heart, mushroomdapple realized with her kit in the clan, she would never be safe - what would happen if hollowshade spread these rumors around the clan or publicly accused her? would she have the strength to even deny her love for her daughter?
with desperation, she came to willowshade. she insisted they had to get the kit out of smokeclan, for it wasn't safe - not for the kit, or herself, or even willowshade and emberdusk for helping her hide her secret. and so, emberdusk took the kit, and vanished into the heavy rain. once he'd arrived back to camp, he went to willowshade, and the queen played her part - yowling about her missing kit and waking the clan.
sunrises passed, and all mushroomdapple could think about was her kit. was she happy in ashclan? would her father have a feeling, know she was his? would she be nursed by a kind queen or treated as a burden like mushroomdapple and her littermates? the questions rattled around her head day and night. she was so distracted, she didn't notice hollowshade becoming withdrawn and distant, his glared going unseen. it wasn't until she found herself, a few moons later, letting her paws carry herself towards the ashclan border that she realized ignoring him had been a grave error. mushroomdapple was certain she was alone until a twig snapped behind her. she whirled to find the dusky pelt of hollowshade only a few tail-lengths away. she instinctively took a step back, and that's when she realized the tom had effectively trapped her between the tree line and the river border, which had swelled into a rushing current from the rainy season. "i know what you did." the words sent a chill down mushroomdapple's spine, and she took another step back, though the tom simply followed forward. low to ground, the tom stalked after her, hissing, "you never loved me! houndfang never loved me. nobody ever loved me..."
perhaps he didn't expect the she-cat to be ready for a fight, or thought she would try to defend herself with words first, but it took the tom in surprise when mushroomdapple leaped for him. she she-cat had been through far too much to go down without a fight, the two tussled on the shore, rolling in a ball of fur and hissing, until mushroomdapple rose victorious over the tom's limp body. the she-cat wished she felt sad, wished there were even a hint of remorse in her heart as she drug the tom's body towards the water. instead, mushroomdapple felt almost nothing as she heaved the tom's body into the river. she headed into the forest, where she found a shaded spot to lick her pelt clean of blood and pick the fur from her claws.
she arrived back to camp, and since she hadn't left with the tom, no cat would question why she was alone. night came, and cats began to mutter about hollowshade not coming back, and by dawn, a patrol was sent out. they followed what they could find of his scent, but the rainy season - much to mushroomdapple's relief - made their job difficult, and they lost his trail before even reaching the river. a few days of searching passed, and it was decided hollowshade was dead and that the clan would sit a vigil, even without his body. mushroomdapple sat in the clearing with her clanmates, her head down as if in grief - but she knew that when emberdusk met her eye, he had seen the darkness in her gaze and for a moment, looked appalled, before flitting his gaze away.
and so, life went on. mushroomdapple focused on her duties, and spending time with hollowshade and her brother; she trained apprentices and patrolled borders, hunting for her clan. willowshade and emberdusk had started their own family, and enough time had passed that mushroomdapple could be amused by every cat congratulating them on "trying again." make no mistake, though - she still thought of her daughter every single day that passed. even now, she thinks of her often. it's even harder as now mushroomdapple has seen her at gatherings; she soaked in lavenderstar's words as she announced their new apprentice "foxpaw" and later their brand-new warrior, "foxbreeze." nonetheless, mushroomdapple keeps her distance. she's never even spoken to her daughter, for fear that somehow she would realize.
mushroomdapple and emberdusk as closer than ever, especially following willowshade's death. mushroomdapple thinks fondly of her warrior nephew, and has a relatively close bond with her niece, brindlepaw. mushroomdapple has vowed to keep herself out of trouble, and keeps far away from the ashclan border, should she see her former lover and long to rekindle those feelings, or her daughter. she focuses slowly on smokeclan - as she reminds herself often that she should have done this from the beginning - and pitches in wherever she can.

+ Trait → strategic
⤷ mushroomdapple knows the value in being careful. she prefers to air on the side of caution, inspecting a plan from every single angle. she's keen at planning ahead and deciding with the utmost scrutiny when to take action. mushroomdapple is a difficult cat to surprise.
+ Trait → proactive
⤷ this tortie is a girl who knows what she wants, and isn't afraid to get it. she feels she's already given up too much in life: once her kit was gone, mushroomdapple had nothing left to lose. she's quick to advocate for herself in any situation. mushroomdapple is often up early, volunteering to patrol from the first sent to the last that returns. she's determined to pour all of the love she has to give into her clan.
+ Trait → spunky
⤷ speaking one's mind is a quality mushroomdapple admires in a cat. it's one of her favorite things about herself, too. this cat's philosophy is that if you think it, you might as well say it - especially after how much in her younger life she'd been silent on.
- Trait → self-destructive
⤷ mushroomdapple has always had a bad habit of fearing happiness. it seems each time in her life she's been happy, truly happy, only misfortune follows. mushroomdapple's view that anything good she could have will fall apart actively sours any good she's receiving. thus the cycle continues.
- Trait → over-emotional
⤷ mushroomdapple feels deeply. as a result, while every good time feels like the best time of her life, every bad time is the end of the world. this often culminates in a total loss of hope and a dreary attitude.
- Trait → verbose
⤷ some cats have a natural way with words - mushroomdapple is no such cat. over-explaining with too many descriptors until she devolves into nonsensical ramblings? now, that's exactly where this warrior shines. such a quality makes mushroomdapple prefer being part of the crowd rather than the center of attention.

I'm left alight like a cigarette,
Cast away without a thought;
Now, I have no evidence,
That we were once in love.

How am I meant to love myself, when feeling low is sown to my heritage?
If I try harder to explain, I will only push you away;
How am I meant to love myself, when I believe deep down I’m irrelevant?
All I ask is, don't forget me.

life was unkind to emberdusk from the moment of his birth. his littermates, mushroomkit and houndkit, were the only family he had - for the blizzard plaguing smokeclan would claim the lives of their father, redfur, and their mother, frogleap. no sympathy was given by the queen who nursed them, as she resented the kits for taking milk that should be going only to her own. the blizzard would not last forever, though, and weeks after their mother's passing, the forest began to thaw, giving the clan hope.
when the cats were finally apprenticed at six moons, they were still scrawny little runts from malnourishment during youth. mushroompaw was apprenticed to cloudsong, and their bond flourished; houndpaw was apprenticed to a strong young time she obviously admired. emberpaw, however, was given spinetail as a mentor. spinetail was unkind, and coincidentally, had been the mate of the queen that nursed them. one of his own kits had died during the blizzard, and it became evident quickly that spinetail resented the three apprentices for taking the precious milk he felt would have saved his child's life - though this claim was inaccurate, as his kit had become ill from the cold. that didn't stop spinetail from taking this grief out on emberpaw, though. there was nothing the tom could do that was good enough for his mentor, nothing he could say that would be a correct answer. no amount of success on a hunt of skill in battle training pleased spinetail. if it hadn't been for houndpaw, mushroompaw, and the other apprentice in the den, willowpaw, emberpaw thought he would have given up on being a warrior all together. mushroompaw was quick with encouragement, though she was more focused on training with cloudsong. houndpaw helped emberpaw train and practice to impress his mentor, often asking hers if they could train together (though this often just caused spinetail to complain about how he was given the "dud" of the group). it was willowpaw, though, that offered emberpaw constant companionship. the pretty tortoiseshell apprentice clearly felt emberpaw was treated unfairly, and she wasn't shy with telling that to spinetail, or even the clan's leader. often in trouble for her quick-draw tongue, willowpaw earned emberpaw's admiration easily. all four of the apprentices spent every spare second they had together, though admittedly willowpaw and emberpaw seemed to have more time on their paws for each other than his sisters had to give.
time went on, and mushroompaw became mushroomdapple, houndpaw becoming houndfang. even willowpaw earned the name willowshade, though she was a moon younger than the siblings. emberpaw was beginning to feel like he would never earn his warrior name - and perhaps if it were up to spinetail, he never would have been. eventually the leader decided it was time for his assessment, and to spinetail's annoyance, decided to do the assessment themselves. emberpaw passed with flying colors, and finally, at fourteen moons of age, he earned the name emberdusk. willowshade's voice was the loudest at his naming ceremony, and she alone was on his thoughts the night of his vigil.
now a warrior, emberdusk launched himself into his duties with eagerness, though he kept a good distance from his former mentor. it wasn't long before he and willowshade became mates. houndfang had taken her own mate in her former mentor, so no longer had much time for her littermates. willowshade and mushroomdapple had become the closest of friends while waiting for emberdusk to join them in the warriors' den, and it was clear their bond would always be special. emberdusk was just pleased that his mate and his sister got along so well. things were good for only a single moon, however - for houndfang would join starclan before she had even been a warrior for three moons. the she-cat had joined a patrol in driving away a badger, and had received a nasty gash on her side that became infected quickly. despite the medicine cat's best efforts, she succumbed to the infection, leaving a grief-stricken mate behind. mushroomdapple and emberdusk mourned the loss of their sister heavily, leaving them with no kin but one another.
it came as a shock to everyone when only a moon after houndfang's death, her former mate - hollowshade - had taken mushroomdapple as his mate. emberdusk tried to discuss the matter with his sister, feeling that it was a betrayal to houndfang's memory especially since she'd been gone such a short time, but mushroomdapple refused to speak with her brother about it. willowshade insisted emberdusk drop the matter, claiming that there was more to the story than he knew, to leave looking out for his sister to her. mushroomdapple began to become a husk of her former self; she was paranoid, lethargic, secretive.
one evening, emberdusk was invited on a moonlit walk by willowshade. the tom never would have expected to have been led outside of smokeclan's territory to a tiny hollow where his sister lie tucked under shrubbery, curled around a tiny little kit. to say emberdusk was shocked would not do justice to how he felt in that moment. more than anything, he was awash with betrayal - though this feeling soon subsided as he listened to his mate and sister explain. to his horror, mushroomdapple had fallen in love with a tom from ashclan, and the kit she suckled now was his. while she refused to disclose the father of her child, she did insist that she had not betrayed hollowshade. while she had broken the warrior code, she would never go behind the back of a cat she loved - which was exactly the case, as she felt no love for hollowshade. mushroomdapple explained that houndfang's former mate had lost his sense of sanity after her death; she had not become his mate because she wanted to, she became his mate because he'd alluded to the fact that there would be hefty consequences if she didn't. emberdusk insisted they tell the clan the truth, but mushroomdapple refused, afraid of what hollowshade would do to her kit if he found out it wasn't his or if she exposed the fact that she felt unsafe around him. sheepishly, mushroomdapple asked her question - if willowshade would claim the kit as hers for the sake of its life.
emberdusk and willowshade honored mushroomdapple's request. they helped the she-cat back to camp with the kit, and announced to the clan that willowshade had been pregnant without knowing, claiming it was likely became she only had one kit. willowshade moved to the nursery, and was often visited by mushroomdapple. it seemed their secret was safe; at least, until mushroomdapple explained with desperation that she thought hollowshade was catching on. "ashclan," she whispered hurriedly to her brother. "please - take my daughter to ashclan, where she'll be safe." and so, that's exactly what emberdusk did. on a dark, stormy night, he snuck the kit from her nest in the nursery - with willowshade's knowledge, of course - and carried her off to ashclan. once he reached a patrol that escorted him to camp, he claimed he heard the kit mewling from the edge of their territory and assumed it belonged to them. while no cat in ashclan knew where the kit came from, they of course took it in, sending it to one of the queens to be nursed. emberdusk returned to camp with a heavy heart, and once he let willowshade know the deed was done, willowshade woke the clan at dawn with desparate wails about her missing kit.
mushroomdapple was incredibly grateful to her brother and friend, and life returned to some semblance of normal for the three. soon after, hollowshade would disappear, never to be seen again - and while emberdusk didn't ask questions, he couldn't miss the darkness in mushroomdapple's eyes when the clan sat a body-less vigil for the tom. eventually, he and willowshade would go on to have a family of their own - hearing plenty of congratulations from mislead clanmates about how it was so wonderful they decided to "try again" and "restart their family." the two had a pair of perfect kits: sunkit and brindlekit. emberdusk couldn't be happier, and mushroomdapple spent plenty of time with her niece and nephew, though the two parents could see how difficult it would sometimes be for her.
after sunpaw and brindlepaw were apprenticed, willowshade returned to her duties in the clan. sadly, she would be killed by a falling branch in a heavy storm. it was a quick and painless death with the branch falling directly on her head, taking the she-cat directly to starclan. emberdusk was beside himself with grief. mushroomdapple was his greatest comfort during this time, and she did a great deal to help support him and his kits. now, moons have passed, and his son is a warrior. emberdusk thoroughly enjoys being able to hunt and patrol with sunfire, and is eager for brindlepaw to join them in the warriors' den.

𝙿 𝙴 𝚁 𝚂 𝙾 𝙽 𝙰 𝙻 𝙸 𝚃 𝚈
+ Trait → determined
⤷ emberdusk isn't one to give up. he strives to fulfill any goal he sets, and doesn't know the meaning of failure - if he did, he likely never would have become a warrior, thanks to spinetail.
+ Trait → loyal
⤷ to a tom with so little kin, loyalty is everything to emberdusk. his clan is his family, and he feels at least some kinship with every clanmate he has. for mushroomdapple, he would lay down his life with ease, and has proven he will help her out of any scrape she finds herself in. the same goes for his kits, and would go for his niece, should she ever discover who he is.
+ Trait → optimistic
⤷ emberdusk is not a dreary sort of cat. he believes firmly that, eventually, everything will work out exactly as it was meant. he feels it important to keep a good attitude and positive outlook - for if he didn't, his heart would surely have stopped beating from grief by now.
- Trait → panicked
⤷ unfortunately, in the face of surprise, emberdusk's mind wipes itself clean. it's as if he suddenly forgets everything he's ever learned when taken off guard, making him an easy cat to ambush. while he typically has the upper hand when he knows what to expect, emberdusk isn't capable of being adaptable.
- Trait → sharp-tongued
⤷ while emberdusk prides himself on being a stand-up cat, in the face of hurt he has no control over his mouth. stopping to think before he speaks isn't happening if emberdusk feels slighted. he's been known to say things he can't take back when upset, so he prefers to be completely alone when he feels this way.
- Trait → stubborn
⤷ since emberdusk isn't quick at thinking on his paws, he is not receptive of change. he prefers things to stay familiar as that's far easier for him to grasp. he also isn't quick to budge on what he thinks is a good idea, and tends to steamroll the ideas of others.

willowshade and emberdusk were overjoyed when they welcomed their litter into the world. two beautiful kits: a ginger tom named sunkit, and a small calico they decided to call brindlekit. as the kits opened their eyes and began to develop, it became clear that the two were very different cats. sunkit was full of life and joy - truly living up to his name - while brindlekit was quiet, watchful, calculating. she preferred to entertain herself while sunkit was always busy playing with every other kit in the nursery. it wasn't for lack of trying - sunkit practically begged for his sister to play with him, and their parents encouraged the same, but brindlekit was happy on her own. their aunt mushroomdapple would visit them often, telling them stories of their grandparents and houndfang, and she was alway's brindlekit's favorite. she didn't mind that the kit simply wanted to sit at her paws, watching her intently, hanging onto every word.
finally, the two kits were made apprentices. sunpaw already seemed like a promising prospect for the clan, untrained muscle already rippling under his sleek pelt. brindlepaw, on the other hand, moved in a stalking manner as if she were wary of everything around her, often bearing a scraggly appearance. sunpaw was apprenticed to a fine senior warrior, and brindlepaw was apprenticed to a tom named creekclaw. while brindlepaw found most of the world around her dull, she was taken with creekclaw immediately. she couldn't explain it, but the tom seemed to be the only cat in the clan that could ever understand her. for the first time in her young life, she felt truly seen, which not even mushroomdapple had managed to accomplish. creekclaw had her trust and silent adoration from the moment they touched noses at her ceremony.
it wasn't long after they began their training that a storm rolled through the clan's territory. it caused damage to several of the forest's trees - including one that rose high over that day's evening border patrol. willowshade, happy to be back to her regular duties, had eagerly jumped to join the patrol, and it would be a downfall - as the cats tried to find somewhere to hunker down, a large branch would snap and plummet down onto her skull. their clanmates told the young cats and their father it was a quick, painless death; "she didn't suffer," they'd say, as if the suffering hadn't just only begun. emberdusk was beside himself, as expected, and sunpaw's caterwauling filled the camp. brindlepaw had nothing to say. she studied her mother's body with somber eyes, noting how different she looked - her pelt ruffled and soaking from the rain, her paws eerily too still, unrecognizable above the neck. for brindlepaw, it was easy to cope with: willowshade was dead, this was a fact; she felt a pang of grief, this was a fact; life would go on nonetheless, this was a fact. as the clan gathered for the vigil, emberdusk pressed into his mate's side with sunfire grooming her ragged pelt for the final time, brindlepaw quietly came to mushroomdapple's side and sat beside her aunt. the two exchanged a soft blink, and to brindlepaw's relief, no questions were asked over how she was feeling. after awhile, she felt the grief subside, and she rose to join creekclaw's side once more, having felt the situation was wrapped up.
for brindlepaw, life moved on. emberdusk and sunpaw relied on each other heavily following willowshade's death, as well as mushroomdapple. as far as the brindlepaw, no support was needed. she resumed training immediately and life was at once normal again. it wasn't long before the two apprentices had reached twelve moons of age, and sunfire was swiftly named a warrior. brindlepaw is indifferent on her own ceremony - she's happy enough training with creekclaw, honing her skills to their maximum potential. as far as she concerns, the longer she trains, the better she will become, and she isn't exactly eager to leave creekclaw's side any time soon.

𝙿 𝙴 𝚁 𝚂 𝙾 𝙽 𝙰 𝙻 𝙸 𝚃 𝚈
+ Trait → observant
⤷ brindlepaw has always had a penchant for just watching. from youth she's preferred to stay a tail-length's distance from her peers, noting their every move. nothing gets past this cat, though whether she'd speak on it or become involved is a different story entirely. this quality has been helpful in her training, as she's usually got her opponent pegged before the match ever starts.
+ Trait → rational
⤷ brindlepaw is a fairly level-headed cat. she's wonderful at compartmentalizing her thoughts and feelings, and moving on from them quickly. a useful skill to have in battle, brindlepaw is good at examining a situation and rationalizing the most likely outcome, good or bad.
+ Trait → focused
⤷ as has reflected in her training, brindlepaw will never leave a goal unfinished. she isn't distracted easily. once brindlepaw has decided she will accomplish something, it will be done, regardless of how much effort is required.
- Trait → callous
⤷ if you're seeking sympathy, this isn't the cat to go to. her words fly quick off the silver tongue she carries, without a second wasted pondering if they're cruel or not. kindness didn't turn brindlepaw into the fine warrior prospect she is today, and she certainly has no time to waste on saving feelings.
- Trait → resentful
⤷ brindlepaw is not the cat you want to cross unless a lifelong hatred is what you're wishing for. this calico will never forget, and she certainly won't forgive. slighting brindlepaw means an enemy for as long as she lives.
- Trait → obsessive
⤷ while being focused can work in one's favor, being obsessed is a whole different beast. failing is not in brindlepaw's plan, so no matter the amount of struggle, she'll push herself to death completing whatever is at hand. more than once brindlepaw has been forced to lose what she considers valuable training time because she has to recover from an injury that was caused by this persistence.

Fall Out Boy | Heartbreak Feels So Good wrote:We said we'd never grow up,
It's open season on blue moods;
Light from a screen of messages -
Unsent.

It was an uphill battle,
But they didn't know, but they didn't know;
We were gonna use the roads as a ramp to take off -

We could cry a little, cry a lot,
Don't stop dancing, don't dare stop;
We'll cry later or cry now,
You know it's heartbreak;
We could dance our tears away,
Emancipate ourselves;
We'll cry later or cry now, but baby,
Heartbreak feels so good.

sunfire was born in smokeclan to two very supportive, loving parents. his mother, willowshade, showered sunkit and his sister, brindlekit, in love and adoration. their father, emberdusk, kept close to the nursery when he wasn't fulfilling his duties to the clan, and their aunt mushroomdapple visited the two often. sunkit had no shortage of pals when it came to his denmates, though he spent a good deal of time pestering brindlekit to play with him. he longed for his sister's attention during the early moons of his life, though his pleading would fall on deaf ears. the two kits were like night and day: sunkit was loud, confident, full of joy. brindlekit was quiet, reserved, and somber. nonetheless, sunkit's childhood was rich, as no kit in the nursery was left out of his games.
when it came time for the kits to become apprentices, sunpaw was given a senior warrior as his mentor. there had been chatter that the golden tom would be a promising apprentice; his build was excellent and he had a clear strength, as well as an aptitude for learning. as expected, training came easy for sunpaw. he was an all-right hunter; battle training was where his skills shone. the muscle under his pelt became trained and hardened, and soon enough the tom was strong enough to be a fair match for a young warrior. sunpaw also found what he'd been longing for - a sister. no, it wasn't brindlepaw - his true sister spent no time with any cat except for her mentor, and had a clear disinterest in bonding with himself or any of the other apprentices. it was a she-cat named flowerpaw that became his closest companion. two moons younger than himself, sunpaw felt protective of her, and the two had the best of banter. these feelings were never romantic; sunpaw truly saw the she-cat as family.
it wasn't long after sunpaw and flowerpaw became friends that tragedy came to smokeclan by way of the skies. a harsh storm struck the clan's territory while sunpaw's mother was out patrolling. the rain and wind came suddenly, and a falling branch claimed willowshade's life. the young tom was beside himself with grief. he almost couldn't believe it, had it not been for the stillness under her water-laden pelt. his wails of grief filled the camp as he and emberdusk pressed into the dead she-cat's body. he was disgusted by brindlepaw's reaction. she hardly seemed to care that their mother had died; sunpaw decided then and there that he would no longer sink any effort into bonding with his sister, if this was how she cared for those she was supposed to love. from now on, he decided, his family would be just he and emberdusk.
after willowshade's death, sunpaw never truly went back to normal. still emberdusk's golden boy, he worked hard at his training to make his father proud, but things were different now - sunpaw felt an intense amount of anxiety. his mother's calming support had been an integral part of his confidence and persistence. no, with that warmth gone, sunpaw often found himself overwhelmed. an overwhelming sense of dread would fill him from nose to tail-tip every time he considered the expectations of his father, his mentor, his clan. luckily, sunpaw still had flowerpaw to lean on, and the she-cat was keen on being able to calm him. sunpaw didn't know how he'd ever get through his apprenticeship without her - and soon enough, that apprenticeship, and flowerpaw's warmth, would come to an end.
sunpaw was eleven moons when he lost half of his heart. the young tom was almost a full-fledged warrior, with less than a moon to wait for his assessment. as the assessment neared, his excitement soared, but so did his anxiety. the pressures of becoming a warrior, without a mentor to guide, expected to know what to do in every situation, almost overwhelmed him. nonetheless, sunpaw persisted, with much help from flowerpaw. unfortunately, flowerpaw's bond with the tom would be her own undoing. sunpaw knew his assessment was nearing, so he asked the she-cat to help - to shadow him as he was hunting, to help him practice his moves.
sunpaw had just caught the first mouse of this mock assessment when a cry rang out above him. the tom's eyes snapped up - and there, the young she-cat was clinging to a branch with three paws while using one to furiously bat at a hawk who clearly thought it had found an easy meal. flowerpaw was a small, scrawny apprentice - it was no wonder the large bird had mistaken her for a simple squirrel.
in a flash, sunpaw was up the branches, scaling the tree towards her, panic rising. flowerpaw's grip was beginning to loosen, and sunpaw thought he'd made it to the branch just in time. rearing on his hindlegs, he sank his forepaws and fangs into the bird, hauling it away from flowerpaw - and then with a loud creak, the branch gave way under the three creatures.
for a brief moment, sunpaw thought he might be flying. he kept his claws firmly ensnared in the hawk, as if holding the creature could save him, and he was only vaguely aware of flowerpaw's screeching. the three tumbled towards the ground, and as sunpaw stared at the quickly approaching green below them, he though the could see willowshade lying on the ground, waiting for the "branch" to hit.
with a heavy thud, sunpaw's shoulder connected with the earth. the hawk was underneath him, cushioning the majority of his body, but his vision was overtaken with a bright flash of pain. sunpaw thought he heard screeching - and for a moment that was relieving, as if flowerpaw's lungs were okay surely she would be, until the tom realized the wailing was coming from his own jaws. for several moments the tom lay there, confused and unmoving, his shoulder numb.
what seemed like an eternity passed, and clarity began to return to the tom - as well as the stabbing pain in his shoulder, now that the adrenaline was passing. with much difficult, sunpaw dragged himself to his paws. he stood on three paws, shaking in every limb, and his eyes spotted a rumpled white-and-gray pelt beside him. he pawed the dead hawk aside and took a few shaky steps towards her. "...flowerpaw...?" his voice was hoarse and almost a whisper. he reached his nose to touch the she-cat, pressing it into her side and nudging her. with the heavy weight of realization setting in, sunfire let out a pained wail of grief, and collapsed on the forest floor beside her.
it was a hunting patrol that found sunfire hours later. the tom had been unable to force himself up to take flowerpaw's body back to camp - for that's where she would be buried and truly be gone forever. his shoulder hadn't stopped aching either, and he wasn't entirely sure he'd be able to even walk back to camp. when the patrol found them, they got few words out of the tom. the walk back to camp began to remind sunfire that he was, indeed, alive, and that yes, this had truly happened - yes, flowerpaw was gone forever. when they arrived back at camp, sunfire gave the leader the rundown on what had happened - that he'd managed to get the hawk off of the she-cat but that the branch gave way underneath him, making all of his efforts futile. refusing to go to the medicine cat's den, sunfire settled himself beside flowerpaw's body and began grooming it, though every touch of her cold pelt almost pained him.
it was during flowerpaw's vigil that sunfire was given his warrior name. perhaps it was because he truly earned it, but sunfire felt it was just to take the sting off of what had happened. he was excused from his vigil so that after flowerpaw was buried, he could see the medicine cat. his shoulder had been dislocated by the hard earth, and the medicine cat was able to snap it back into place and gave him clear instructions to stay off of the paw and to rest. sunfire insisted that he still sit vigil the following night, and made good on his promise. the entire night, the tom stared up at the stars. he thought he could almost make out flowerpaw's pelt, and willowshade's, among the glittering darkness. the tom sobbed quietly to himself the majority of the evening, trying to process such profound emotions in a world so lonely and empty.
not long has passed since flowerpaw joined starclan. sunfire's shoulder has gotten better, though still feels stiff after a night's sleep. he's back to performing regular duties now, hunting and patrolling for the clan. the tom spends the majority of his time with emberdusk, and his aunt mushroomdapple.

Rainbow Kitten Surprise | All's Well that Ends wrote:Clocks made God from the monsters in my head,
Do you wanna know my name?
Is that all you want to take from me?
In your arms the end is in my eyes,
And I don't want to die in my sleep, when you're left.
Call me when you hang and,
Call me when you're left;
Call me when you come down, call me when you hang.

I don't wanna to die alone, but I don't wanna die at all;
I'm not gonna keep you by the phone, dear,
Hang up when you've had enough,
Too much to talk;
Call me when you're coming down, call me when you hang,
All is well that ends well, but all is well that ends.

poor foxkit had an unfortunate start - a warrior from the opposing clan crossed the border after her heard her helpless mewling. he carried the poor kit to ashclan's camp, telling the leader he assumed that's where the kit came from. unfortunately, with the heavy rain that soaked both of their pelt's, there was no scent to be found. thankfully, the queen frosteyes jumped at the chance to take the orphan in. she suckled foxkit beside her own litter, two little toms, jaykit and moonkit. frosteyes was so kind to the orphan kit, she wouldn't know she wasn't her biological daughter if it weren't for jaykit's constant teasing. while she fit in fine with the other kits, and was very close with moonkit, jaykit did all he could to make foxkit's kithood miserable, despite frosteyes' scolding. foxkit let it roll off, though - if jaykit didn't like her, that was fine, she still had frosteyes, moonkit, and a whole slew of denmates to play with.
apprenticeship was an exciting time for foxpaw. she, moonpaw, and jaypaw, were all named together - though she would hardly know jaypaw was among them with the distance he kept from her. foxpaw was grateful that he was no longer tormenting her, and she and moonpaw continued to spend a lot of their time together. training was exhilarating for foxpaw. she enjoyed stalking prey through the undergrowth and exploring the territory with her brother. she didn't excel in battle training, but she did find a natural aptitude for sailing through the trees after birds and squirrels. moonpaw always joked that her birth parents were likely birds, given how stable her footing was among the branches. when frosteyes died, it was a life-changing event for the young ginger tabby. pressed close to moonpaw, they spent the night with their muzzles buried in frosteyes' fur, feeling her warmth fade away. she was painfully aware of jaypaw glowering at her hatefully the entire time. the death of their mother certainly changed the trio - all three came out on the other side more mature, more focused on their training.
while jaystorm and moonfur became warriors first, foxbreeze wasn't far behind. she was a valuable asset when it came to feeding the clan, able to track prey and deliver a clean kill with ease. she and moonfur remained thick as thieves, though moonfur did make time to tag along with jaystorm. foxbreeze was happy as a warrior, and for awhile, everything was very good. that was until she lost moonfur. the two had been out hunting, and foxbreeze had been stalking a bird in a tall oak. below her, a startled yowl rang out, and foxbreeze hastily made her way down. she wasn't quick enough - moonfur had been face to face with a badger already, and by the time her paws hit the forest floor, the badger's jaws emitted a loud crunch from cracking into moonfur's spine. foxbreeze leaped onto the badger's back, and a nearby patrol heard the noise and came rushing to the scene. they drove the badger away, but by the time they arrived, it was already too late for poor moonfur. that night, foxbreeze sat vigil by her brother's body, grooming the blood from his fur, all too aware of jaystorm's sharp glare. when she met his gaze, the gray warrior's eyes shone with cold hatred that sent a chill down foxbreeze's spine.
several moons have passed since moonfur's death, and foxbreeze has mostly recovered, though she does often find herself thinking fondly of him. she keeps her distance from jaystorm - she knows no conversation they could have would end well.

+ Trait → compassionate
⤷ foxbreeze is for sure a cat of passion. she loves hard, and cares deeply, for every cat that is close to her, as well as her clan. she gives her loved ones benefit of the doubt easily, with no second thought. she trusts them to return this affection, and chooses to believe no cat that she cares for would do her wrong. even cats she's never met, she's willing to believe the best until proven otherwise. while this could be considered a fault, it's often worked out in foxbreeze's favor, as cats typically prefer those who refuse to judge on face value. foxbreeze earned her warrior name in honor of this deep compassion that she spreads to every cat in her clan.
+ Trait → motherly
⤷ the young of the clan require a village of guidance - this is not lost on foxbreeze. foxbreeze strongly values her duty as a role-model for the clan's youth. having an apprentice is important to foxbreeze, as she prefers to spend her time teaching and guiding apprentices to be the best of themselves they can be. foxbreeze longs for a nest of her own in the nursery, one of her largest life goals being raising a litter of kits. this likely stems from not having access to her birth mother, as well as the love she was gifted from her adoptive mother frosteyes.
+ Trait → spiritual
⤷ by no means was foxbreeze equipped to be a medicine cat or otherwise have a role that would provide direct contact with starclan - nonetheless, she reveres starclan to the highest degree. despite knowing none of her biological ancestors reside in the stars, starclan gives foxbreeze the sense of family she's always struggled with. she honors them deeply with ever piece of prey she brings home to ashclan, and follows the warrior code as closely as a cat can. she's intent on earning her space among the warrior ancestors, despite thinking no warrior blood running through her veins. this quality makes her a strong warrior for the clan, as she'd never trouble her leader with broken rules, nor would she encourage another cat to do so.
- Trait → emotionally driven
⤷ foxbreeze is not a creature of logic. her heart guides her decisions rather than her head, which leads to rash decision making. foxbreeze would rather risk her life, and the lives of those around her, to save one, than to consider losing a friend. she is not one to consider consequences before actions, and as long as she's not breaking the warrior code, foxbreeze will gladly take a punishment if it means following her heart. this behavior will likely one day be the death of her.
- Trait → annoyingly persistent
⤷ while foxbreeze is a good friend to have in terms of someone to stand by your side, she is by no means a cat to keep around if you prefer secrets and space. while it comes from a place of care and compassion, foxbreeze refuses to take "no" as an answer when it comes to finding out how her friends are feeling. for this reason, foxbreeze can be seen as an annoyance - her overbearing love can be more of a pest-like quality than a help. she's unable to let anything go, determined to get to the bottom of everything, which drives away those who cannot handle such overwhelming persistence.
- Trait → naïve
⤷ for a warrior, trusting in the wrong cat can be quite dangerous - a lesson that foxbreeze will certainly have to learn the hard way. trusting so easily definitely has it's drawbacks, and while those have mostly come in terms of harmless apprentice pranks when she was young, it could lead to danger in her future. foxbreeze will give any cat the benefit of the doubt, despite what evidence accusers may have, and then be shocked when she finds her trust was misplaced. it only takes one instance of misplaced support to end a cat's life, a lesson foxbreeze has not yet learned.

𝙷 𝙸 𝚂 𝚃 𝙾 𝚁 𝚈
jaykit and moonkit were born in a plentiful new-leaf. prey was plenty, and many litters were born, springing to life with the forest. stonewind, their father, was a strong warrior. he had been a top contender for deputy, had he not been struck down when his kits were still young. frosteyes, born blind, had never been a warrior. lacking sight made navigating the forest difficult, and catching prey and fighting were outside the realm of possibility for her. while the leader pitied her enough to give her an apprentice name, she had never trained alongside her peers - instead, she was given a queen as a mentor. this queen taught her how to help the other queens care for kits, and how to do important tasks such as assisting the elders, and helping reinforce the camp. while assuming she would never have a mate, stonewind admired her courageous personality, and the fact that she made herself useful despite never being a warrior. jaykit and moonkit were their pride and joy, but stonewind would only know them for a half-moon before he was killed by a fox. that's when a small, tiny orphan kit was found by a russet-colored warrior at the edge of their territory. frosteyes took the kit in without a thought - naming her foxkit.
during kithood, jaykit was always quiet, keeping distance from his denmates. the other kits didn't like to play with him - "jaykit plays too rough!" they would cry to their mothers, and jaykit was always scolded for playing with unsheathed claws or biting hard enough to break skin. moonkit tolerated him, unbothered by jaykit's callous attitude, always willing to play with his brother - though it often just annoyed the tiny tom. foxkit, on the other hand, adored moonkit, and kept her distance from jaykit. jaykit was unusually cruel to foxkit, intentionally excluding her from games and hiding thorns in the part of the nest she often slept. frosteyes seemed to be the only cat that jaykit truly cared for, and he often followed every order she gave him. while no other queen could attempt to discipline the unruly kit, jaykit would tuck his tail for his mother.
moons passed, and the kits became jaypaw, moonpaw, and foxpaw. foxpaw meant nothing to jaypaw - he viewed her only with disdain. he would quietly rest with moonpaw, often sharing silent meals with his brother - well, silent on his part, since moonpaw would spend the entire time rambling on about something jaypaw couldn't be bothered with. the young tom's mentor was a senior warrior named wolfscar. the tom's name fit him; he was an old, shaggy cat littered with wounds of battle from nose to tail-tip. wolfscar was firm in his beliefs: you will follow the warrior code, you will feed and defend your clanmates, you will never show a speck of respect to outsiders. jaypaw idolized wolfscar; he was the father that had never lived long enough to raise him. as he focused further on training, jaypaw began to ignore moonpaw, only pushing him further towards foxpaw - who, thanks to wolfscar's strict principles, jaypaw had grown to hate. he believed this outsider had wriggled into his nest like a parasite, stealing his mother and brother's love. it was during this apprenticeship that the trio of apprentices lost their mother. jaypaw would never forget the night of her vigil - and and moonpaw, with their muzzles pressed into her fur. and then that ginger pelt, that disgusted him as much as a cat could be, with her muzzle pressed in too. he remembered the desire to claw her eyes out, to screech at her that this was not her mother, that she was merely loner trash and had no place at this special, sad ceremony.
jaypaw was the first of the three to earn his warrior name - jaystorm. the worst rainstorm that had been seen in a long time caused flooding that damaged a large part of the forest, and jaystorm didn't hesitate to leap into the rushing currents after a mouse-brained apprentice who had lost their balance too close to the water. moonfur followed next, and soon foxbreeze - though jaystorm only cried the name of one sibling at their ceremony. moonfur still accompanied jaystorm for almost-silent meals, though he was painfully aware that his brother would always be closer to foxbreeze. he resented moonfur for it - up until the time that moonfur died. then his resentment shifted to foxbreeze, furthering into full hatred, as he discovered she'd been with him and hadn't saved him. jaystorm was certain that, if he had been there, he could have saved moonfur, and that foxbreeze's outsider blood simply made her much too weak.
jaystorm has served his clan for many moons now as a warrior. since moonfur's passing, he hasn't spoken a word to foxbreeze, avoiding her presence, and making it clear to her and others he won't tolerate her. foxbreeze seems mostly unbothered, and has given up completely on any attempt to win his favor. jaystorm has his sights set on only one thing: serving his clan to the best of his ability, until it becomes clear that he's the only choice for deputy, and then lead ashclan to full glory and greatness.

𝙿 𝙴 𝚁 𝚂 𝙾 𝙽 𝙰 𝙻 𝙸 𝚃 𝚈
+ Trait → level-headed
⤷ jaystorm doesn't let emotion dictate his decisions. in fact, emotion plays no part in his choices - to him, everything revolves around pure logic. it doesn't matter how much he may care or not care about a cat, jaystorm believes all decisions should be tailored to the best choice of ashclan as a whole. jaystorm also isn't one to panic in the face of danger - rather than making split-second decisions on how to save himself or others, everything is carefully thought out to provide the best outcome for himself. conflict rarely clouds his mind, he simply concerns himself with what seems to be the best option.
+ Trait → reliable
⤷ jaystorm is a cat of dependability. if he says he's going to do something, you can count on him to fulfill this obligation with no doubt. he prides himself on ability to stick firmly by his word. this also leads to jaystorm being bothered heavily by change of plan scenarios, as he prefers to stick to whatever was originally decided.
+ Trait → loyal
⤷ when jaystorm became a warrior, he took his vows seriously. as far as he's concerned, accepting his warrior name was a direct trade: he would be honored as a warrior, and he would devote his life to ashclan. above all, family, friends, anything, jaystorm directs his life to best serve the clan he pledged himself to.
- Trait → reserved
⤷ his thoughts and feelings belong to himself alone, and he has little desire to share them with others. jaystorm is not a friendly cat by any means. he keeps family at tail's length, and doesn't consider himself to have any friends. his clanmates are simply that - clanmates. he has no desire to know a thing about their personal lives, and respects cats based solely on work ethic and how much they can provide. as a result, jaystorm feels little kinship with his adopted littermate, and felt little with his deceased father. he does have a soft spot for his long-passed mother frosteyes, more so than any living cat who he spends time with.
- Trait → cold
⤷ jaystorm is clearly a reserved cat, but for the most part, he's downright cold to his clanmates, especially those that originate from outside of ashclan. his behavior is often seen as rude - which is justifiable, considering that he does nothing to come across as kind. jaystorm has no concept of holding his tongue to prevent hurt feelings, and is perfectly okay with his clanmates disliking him and keeping their distance.
- Trait → judgmental
⤷ jaystorm feels the only correct way to live one's life is to be part of a clan and live by the code, providing for his clanmates to ensure survival. he has no respect for lawless outsiders, viewing them no different than the carrion of rotting prey. cats within the clan who have roots outside of ashclan he avoids and feels disdain for, including his adopted sister, who was presumably the product of two loners. knowing ashclan's history - and how they almost fell completely to salazar's band of rogues - only furthers this distrust and malice for outsiders. he wouldn't dare argue with his leader's decision to take in an outsider or some abandoned kit - he'll simply keep his distance and view them with a watchful eye, always on guard in case they mean trouble.

Jason Isbell and the 400 Units | If We were Vampires wrote:If we were vampires and death was a joke,
We'd go out on the sidewalk and smoke;
Laugh at all the lovers and their plans,
I wouldn't feel the need to hold your hand.
Maybe time running out is a gift,

And give you every second I can find,
And hope it isn't me who's left behind.

lavenderkit and her littermates, boulderkit, pebblekit, and graykit, were the children of an older queen, palegorse, and the clan's deputy, snakewhisker. the four tiny kits were brought into a loving clan who adored their father, and the other queens were glad for palegorse that she'd been able to have her own litter before she lost the chance. palegorse's kits - and her mate - were her entire world. their father would often come play with them, and share tales of his time as a young cat in ashclan. they taught their kids to respect and honor the warrior code and starclan, teachings that would remain with lavenderkit her entire life. the four kits got along well, though lavenderkit preferred to sit out of the rougher games, especially when boulderkit was playing.
lavenderpaw remembers to the day the way her paws shook when it was time for her litter to earn their place as apprentices. she was apprenticed to a applewhisker - a stocky, intimidating tom. lavenderpaw felt tiny next to him, but tried to hold herself up straight and not let him see her fear as they touched noses. it soon became evident that other than his gruff appearance, applewhisker was a softy - he was a sweet, cheerful tom with an excellent sense of humor, and lavenderpaw was comfortable with him before she knew it. applewhisker's son, blackpaw, was also an apprentice at the time, and lavenderpaw often found herself watching her mentor with amusement as he fretted over his son and his training. blackpaw would go to great lengths to avoid having to train with his father was around, often insisting he needed space to grow into his own cat. lavenderpaw and her brother, pebblepaw, often found themselves training together, and remained very close. they spent most meals with their other siblings, as more and more apprentices that had been with them were named warriors, until the den was empty save the four siblings and blackpaw. it was now that blackpaw began to take an interest in lavenderpaw - suddenly, he didn't mind having to train with his father around so badly. lavenderpaw soon found that blackpaw shared his father's sense of humor, and he was a strong, skilled cat. lavenderpaw cheered the loudest for blackpaw when he was named blackfin.
lavenderpaw excelled in her training, and at only eleven moons of ages she earned the warrior name of lavenderfang, in honor of her exceptional battle skill. her siblings weren't far behind her, but in the meantime, she found herself spending most of her time tagging along with blackfin to hunt and patrol. when their mother passed, blackfin was her shoulder to lean on, and when needed gave her space to be with her siblings, and shortly after, the two became mates. lavenderfang and blackfin trained their first apprentices together, and when the time was right, they began planning for kits. to lavenderfang's surprise, when snakewhisker stepped down to return to warrior duties a few moons after his mate's death, she was named deputy in his place. kits were put on hold as lavenderfang navigated her new role, and she was given nothing but support from blackfin. eventually, the two did try for a family: and they were rewarded with one tiny kit, that in her parents' eyes, was perfect. it soon became evident though that their sweet little frostkit was blind. they spoke with the medicine cat about the probability of her joining their ranks, though the medicine cat insisted only a sign from starclan would allow her to join them as healers. frostkit was a determined little thing, insisting that she didn't want to be a medicine cat, she wanted to be a warrior. lavenderfang and blackfin fretted most of her kithood about how they could ease their daughter's disappointment, when another queen approached them with a keen idea: make her the apprentice of a queen, and allow her to be a help in the nursery with the litters, and fulfill other duties around camp, such as caring for the elders and helping with any camp repairs. frostkit seemed to like the idea, though lavenderfang couldn't be certain that she was just being the easy-going, adaptable kit that she was.
once six moons had passed, lavenderfang and blackfin cheered for frostpaw as she was apprenticed to the queen. it seemed her daughter was fitting in fine with the role, and lavenderfang was glad to be completely focused on her duties again. she had to admit that a queen trained to stay with the nursing mothers full-time would have helped her greatly during frostkit's youth, as she always felt terrible about leaving the blind kit with another queen while she performed her deputy duties. for many moons, life in the clan was good, though as time passed many of lavenderfang's closest confidants passed. her father, and her mentor first; soon her sister pebblestrike.
lavenderfang was eventually named lavenderstar, and her daughter had long ago become frosteyes, and had found a mate and given birth to a litter. lavenderstar and blackfin spent a good deal of time with their grandkits, though blackfin would pass, along with graydapple before the kits would ever become apprentices. lavenderstar had served her clan for many, many moons now, and her only surviving brother has retired to the elders' den. lavenderstar only has three of her lives remaining, and her focus is now building a strong legacy to leave behind, as her time could run out sooner rather than later.

+ Trait → reasonable
⤷ lavenderstar is nothing if not reasonable. steamrolling decisions isn't her strong-suit; lavenderstar prefers to hear every perspective on a matter before making a decision. she's more than willing to both sides of a story, and is very aware there are always two sides to the same coin. she's willing to give anything a shot, once, to see if it will work or fail.
+ Trait → adaptable
⤷ ashclan's leader is open to change. upholding tradition while being open to the future can be a difficult balance, and lavenderstar prides herself in her capability to adapt to what comes next for the clan's way of life. a change of course won't throw this she-cat off her game; she's ready to face new challenges as they come.
+ Trait → strong-willed
⤷ while at one point lavenderstar wasn't sure she could be a strong voice for her clan, leading them has taught her to stand strong in the face of adversary. she holds firm in her decisions once they're made, and her spirits aren't easily broken. even when her back is against the wall and it seems the light will never return, lavenderstar will not lose hope.
- Trait → tender-hearted
⤷ while lavenderstar puts on a tough façade for her clanmates, she's truly a big softy. her judgement can be impaired due to her aching heart, and more than once she's fallen for a good sob story. lavenderstar lets her empathy overwhelm her, making her somewhat easy to trick, if her opponent knows to lay it on thick.
- Trait → forgetful
⤷ lavenderstar would truly lose her head if it weren't screwed on. her forgetfulness has definitely had an impact on her entire life: from forgetting tasks and training sessions as an apprentice, to forgetting patrols she's been assigned to, and even forgetting to assign patrols as the clan's deputy. lavenderstar has been known to cause the delay of ceremonies because she's forgotten kits have reached six moons, and causing her clan to arrive late to gatherings because she's forgotten it's a full moon. this quality has begun to worsen as lavenderstar has aged, and she relies heavily on her deputy to keep her on track.
- Trait → tactless
⤷ despite all of lavenderstar's empathy - she's particularly good at saying the quiet part out loud. there are just some things about a cat's life you don't bring up or mention to their face, but not as far as lavenderstar is concerned. this quality can certainly make those around her uncomfortable, especially when the words she uses are unnecessarily harsh.

Sometimes I feel like I’m depressed, I guess you never know.
I miss my father, when he died it really broke my soul,

And I just wish that he could hold me, tell me I’m the man,
When I realize that he’s gone, that made me sad -
Cause he ain’t coming back.

boulderkit was part of a decent-sized litter: himself, lavenderkit, pebblekit, and graykit. their mother, palegorse, and their father, snakewhisker, were quite proud of their strong-looking kits, and they were at once expected to do great things, as snakewhisker had been the clan's deputy during his lifetime. their kithood was relatively stable; ashclan and smokeclan were at peace, and had been for several moons by the time the kits were born. at this point, their parents could remember their own parents' tales about the great battle, but for most clan cats still alive it was a distant memory. boulderkit was always the roughest of the group, tussling with graykit and pebblekit, though lavenderkit would often go crying to palegorse that he played "too mean!" boulderkit and his littermates were very close, up until the time they were named apprentices.
the apprentices' den was already crowded by the time the four kits were named 'paws. lavenderpaw, the social butterfly of the group, had no trouble fitting in, and pebblepaw often stuck to her side. boulderpaw often found himself alone, as most of the apprentices were too old to want to practice simple battle moves or look after a cat who was hardly more than a kit. luckily, boulderpaw always had graypaw. boulderpaw's mentor, turtlesplash, was a gentle and patient she-cat who had just come back to her warrior duties after raising her own litter. she was sympathetic to boulderpaw's loneliness, and often tried to coordinate with graypaw's mentor so the two could train together. her kindness helped shape boulderpaw into the cat he would become, teaching him the important lessons of compassion and empathy. boulderpaw held her in very high regards, viewing her more as family by the time he passed his assessment and became a warrior.
to everyone's surprise, lavenderpaw earned her warrior name before her sister and brothers. despite her kithood indicating she had was a bit soft, she had taken to the training right away, honing her skills until she was a match for even a full-fledged warrior. despite huffy, feigned jealousy, the three apprentices cheered loudly at lavenderfang's ceremony. his time would come, though, as boulderpaw passed turtlesplash's assessment and earned the name bouldernose shortly after, with pebblestrike and graydapple not far behind.
now serving as warriors, the siblings worked hard to make their parents proud. their mother retired to the elder's den not long after they had earned their names, as she was quite a bit senior to her mate. she would later pass of an infection from a small cut that her body was simply too weak to fight off. it was after her death that snakewhisker went on the decline; his heart never seemed to recover from his mate's death. he stepped down as deputy, returning to warrior duties, though later developed an intense stiffness in his joints that the medicine cat's herbs could only help so much with. snakewhisker was forced to retire, but his kits often visited him in the elders' den with prey and stories of their adventures. snakewhisker's eyes were always the brightest when his kits were around, and his voice was the loudest celebrating lavenderfang when she was named deputy in his place. he would go on to advise his daughter and celebrate the lives of his children, and the birth of his grandkits, before passing quietly in his sleep. before his death, turtlesplash had also joined him in the elders' den, increasing bouldernose's visits.
during his time as a warrior, bouldernose found a mate in the pretty she-cat fawnspring. while the two tried for kits, it wasn't meant to be - and bouldernose didn't mind, nothing would lessen his love for the brown tabby. he spent plenty of time with his young niece when lavenderfang gave birth. bouldernose would consider his life a good one, though he eventually developed the same unmanageable pain and stiffness in his joints that snakewhisker had experienced. bouldernose retired to the elders' den quite young, at only seventy moons, and was pleased to be able to spend his time with turtlesplash before her passing. fawnspring spent plenty of time with her mate while also maintaining her duties, until her unfortunate death from a loner's claws. his siblings have also passed, save lavenderstar, who had taken the role as leader once their previous joined starclan. he spends his time sharing stories with the kits and apprentices now, and enjoys visits from his great nieces and nephews, though poor moonfur has also been lost.

𝙿 𝙴 𝚁 𝚂 𝙾 𝙽 𝙰 𝙻 𝙸 𝚃 𝚈
+ Trait → friendly
⤷ bouldernose has never met a stranger. he's always got a kind word and a smile for every cat he speaks to, as long as the same energy is returned. bouldernose has always been favored the friendless, offering a shoulder to lean on to cats that don't have one. the lonely are bouldernose's people.
+ Trait → wise
⤷ bouldernose has always had a knack for knowing exactly what to say. he's skilled in helping his clanmates put problems into perspective, and cheerfully encourages cats to follow their heart. guidance is one of bouldernose's biggest strengths.
+ Trait → respectful
⤷ as a warrior, it can be easy to see outsiders and the weaker members of the clan as less-than. bouldernose shows the same respect for a tiny kit as the oldest elder in ashclan. bouldernose tries not to treat outsiders with unwarranted hostility; he truly believes there's good in every cat, and would rather save claws for the inevitable. bouldernose also minds his place, trusting his leader, deputy, and medicine cat to make proper decisions, and backing them up in spite of his own feelings.
- Trait → oversensitive
⤷ at times, the old tom can take things a bit too personally. bouldernose has a hard time differentiating between general and personal feelings, sometimes feeling as though he has been slighted despite matters not even pertaining to himself. he has no concept of "heat of the moment" feelings, trusting every cat around him wouldn't speak a word they don't mean. it's particularly easy to hurt bouldernose's feelings.
- Trait → needy
⤷ bouldernose does not do well on his own. the old tom isn't partial to spending his time alone. those close to him can sometimes become exhausted by the days where bouldernose can't seem to manage without another cat by his side.
- Trait → clueness
⤷ subtlety has no meaning to bouldernose. one of the most obtuse cats that has ever walked the first, if words aren't plainly stated, this elder isn't getting the message. it took fawnspring a whole reason to find out about bouldernose's feelings, as he remained painfully unaware of her flirting.
