The brave men rode them.

Luminary - Joel SunnyKeiran simply watched the massive creature who continued to puff smoke in his face. He would not mount this dragon. He was not insane.
Was he?Maybe that thought was better left unturned. His gaze snapped back to the cobalt dragon, even as the sun dipped away its eyes seemed to radiate a light that filled the whole forest. Keiran was not claustrophobic, but in this moment he had never felt so stuck. Sure, the forest stuck out in a wide expanse all around him, but in this moment he was trapped in a bush with a dragon standing over him. Its breaths were even and full as the warmth spread over his coat.
In, out, in, out.He had to focus on his breathing, he had to focus on anything other than the request this dragon was making for him to
ride it.
Ride a dragon? That was pure insanity. Dragon riders had been banned so many years ago, he could not break that rule. He would not break the rule.
Would he?Nope. Nope. Nope. Keiran couldn't even allow that though in, couldn't even grant the possibility any chance. He would not give in, he refused to even dig into the mild curiosity brewing from within him. Its eyes were trained on him with a deadly curiosity. Yet, he remained stock still. Could not move. Would not move.
You could hear a feather drop from the Kingdom with the silence. It tilted its head again and puffed at him. Why was it doing this to him? The least it could do was be swift with it. Keiran looked up at the animal. He simply wished it would decide what it wanted to do with him, instead it loomed. Its stillness held him in place with the fear of moving, the fear of upsetting the dragon.
He head heard tales about how long these creatures lived for, many more years than the average cat. But tales were just that, tales. They certainly couldn't be true all of the time. Within the elders tales laid a cobalt dragon. The dragon that had dropped its rider.
Wait.Cobalt dragon. Wasn't one of those staring at him right now?
One of those was staring at him.
The tale had to be wrong. He had to be making assumptions. Keiran would not ride this dragon. Maybe it knew how to work with a rider but he would not find that out the hard way. There was no way.
Was there? No. No chance. He would not risk being cast out for simple curiosity. That would be foolish. Maybe he could be foolish just once.
Keiran met the dragons eyes with his own. Although his eyes held hesitance, there was a murky determination hidden within them as well. Maybe the risk would be worth it. Nobody would know unless he tried it. Nobody would know if he failed. either.
Maybe the attempt would be worth it. Maybe, he just needed to push past his hesitance for once, push past what was holding him back from being reckless.
Nobody would know anyways. They would never know if he was foolish just this once. Maybe he would take the leap. He couldn't be cast out if nobody knew.
It was a challenge he would take on. Push past the hesitance for just a moment to approach the animal.
Take the risk.[565 words]
