Toberlin was the ship’s cat of a marauding band of pirates. He tells lots of tales of his time on the sea, some (most) of them made up. But there’s one story that’s definitely true, and he even has proof of it!

“So, we were coming up on this lonely lighthouse and the captain gets this bright idea, “Let’s raid the lighthouse, kill the keeper, and use it to lure ships in to steal from!” Everyone else is like “I don’t know if any ships even come around here” but nobody argues because, that’s the captain, dude. You don’t talk back to the captain. Anyway we sail up and we go see what’s up, like, it’s probably just some old dude with a cane and half his teeth missing, no problem, yeah? And like I wasn’t going in, I don’t do pirate stuff, they just keep me around to kill the rats and gulls. So I just sat there on the deck licking my paws and whatever. But then there’s this MEGA loud noise and I’m like “Okay does the lighthouse have cannons? Did the feds catch up with us? Do I need to abandon ship?” And well that would have been normal pirate stuff, but what is NOT normal pirate stuff is a giant lightning bolt shooting out of one of the windows! And then everyone’s running back to ship faster than they ran up to the lighthouse, except for like five pirates who I assume got killed by that giant lightning bolt, and nobody’s telling me what’s going on so I just sit and wait and then the powder monkey’s like “That wasn’t a lighthouse” and he doesn’t elaborate or anything but he gives me this weird piece of paper and I didn’t know what to make of it then but then years later I learned it was a scrap of a wizard spellbook and the lighthouse was actually a wizard tower. Don’t know why there was a light on top though.”
