We have added a new section into our rules regarding CS linked Discord servers. As the internet has evolved, Discord servers have grown popular within the CS community as a place to communicate with other users about user made species, shared interests, or even just Chicken Smoothie in general. While we love that our users have been able to foster mini communities, the rise in popularity of these servers have presented some grey areas in our rules and challenges for the users running Discord servers. We hope that these rule updates will help clarify any questions about what is allowed in these Discord servers and what is not allowed.

CS Linked/Advertised Discord Servers
- A CS linked Discord server is defined as any Discord server posted/advertised on the CS forums, user profiles or CS PMs.
- All content posted on CS linked Discord servers should comply with our Code of Conduct, Privacy and Personal Info, and Art/Writing rules. We expect the users who run and moderate the Discord server to adequately monitor the server and remove inappropriate content if posted. This rule extends to user profiles (profile picture, bio/about me section) that are visible within the server itself.
- While we understand that Discord is a more casual environment, we still do not allow any personal attacks against other users (even if they aren't named). For example, we do not allow users to post trade links for the sole purpose of venting about/attacking another user.
- Audio/Video calls or channels are not allowed.
- Nitro profiles that are hidden from the server do not need to be moderated. Additionally, websites linked to a Discord account (profile connections) that aren't directly linked in the visible bio/about me section of a server profile do not need to be moderated.
- Giveaways, contests, etc. for CS pets do not need to comply with our forum specific rules and are left to the discretion of the Discord itself. However, please be aware that we are not responsible for handing out prizes or resolving any issues that arise as a result of these contests.
- Minor/one off rule breaks that can be easily deleted and handled offsite do not need to be forwarded to CS staff. However, if someone has become a consistent issue or you have major concerns about a user's conduct in a Discord server, please do not hesitate to report the situation to CS Staff.
- Harassment/bullying on Discord is reportable to CS staff and therefore may have penalties taken against your CS account.
- If we are consistently seeing rule breaking content being posted on a CS linked Discord server and we feel that the Discord moderators are not making an adequate effort to monitor/remove said content we reserve the right to not allow the Discord to be posted or advertised on CS anymore. The same applies if CS staff are unable to view the Discord to draw a conclusion (for example we are all removed, blocked etc. from the server).

Rule clarification: How is advertised being defined as per this rule? For example, would "We have a discord!" qualify as advertising or is the rule more specific to discords that are linked (in pms, forums, pet names, ect)?
Thank you!

We would count that as advertising - general rule of thumb should be if it doesn't follow our rules, you shouldn't to mention the server on CS.

Thank you so much Simon for clarifying the rules for CS linked servers!! ^^ This is very helpful for anyone who’s on staff or runs a CS linked server and I do really appreciate the clarity here, especially in regards to some rules that were previously a bit vague. It definitely helps a lot with moderating and It’s clear there’s an effort here to help make sure that spaces offsite offer a similar community and experience overall which is always appreciated ^^ !!
Huge thanks once again!!

Thanks for the clarification! So to double check, if you have a nitro server profile that is 100% cs compliant, there is no issues if there's anything linked (ie twitter) in your personal Discord profile?
I've taken to shouting "SQUIDS FOR THE SQUID GOD" every time I collect squids for my hoard, and it's made my life significantly better 🎃 Lights OFF 🎃

I just wanted to ask a quick question, if that's okay!
While audio/video channels aren't allowed (and I understand) what about live streams for art purposes?
Again, thank you for clearing up the rules!! ^^
We wouldn't allow that as streaming from discord has the option for people to use audio/video and there isn't a good way to regulate it. We've removed the old thread that was used host streaming links to reflect this change as well and be more consistent.

That's correct as long as your personal profile isn't visible on the linked discord itself you don't need to worry about making it comply with all of our rules. Since someone has to intentionally go out of their way to view a personal profile ( which is many degrees removed from the site at that point) we felt like requiring that would be an overstep.
