i am obsessed with american rock band my chemical romance it's not even funny dawg...& i started out only ever listening to them occasionally & now i've gone off the deep end like gerard in the i'm not okay music video when he jumped into the pool

mother 3 has consumed my brain for like a year and a half which is why i find it funny that amongst my friends that i don't talk to as much anymore, i'm still the "mario man" lol. mario was a lifelong interest of mine and still is but the past 17 months another silly game has been bouncing around in my head nonstop. everything i think about has to circle back to this game somehow someway for me to where i feel like i annoy people about it. i've literally got a whole list of stuff that i can't see without thinking about it

i've had many a hyperfixation but the game is also responsible for lifting me out of art block when i had nearly quit art for good and now it's something i exclusively draw to where when i try to draw other stuff, i get blank canvas syndrome fjdkgkf

it's a bit of a bummer that it's not talked about much (most people only know it as "the game nintendo fans won't stop asking for an official translation of") and literally none of my friends knew anything about it, i've met exactly one person on here that knew what it was lmao but i've met some new people in the small communities that exist scattered around social media. they're all just as chaotic about it as me and it's great haha.

i really love undertale too, which most people mistakenly believe was primarily inspired by earthbound but was actually inspired by mother 3, earthbound's fairly different (tonally) sequel, in toby fox's words. around undertale fans sometimes i can't help but feel like that one meme and think "they don't know they would love mother 3" bc honestly they really would. in fact this goes for story-driven pixel art indie games in general because so many of them carry the vibe that the mother series carried the torch for. it's just so hard to get people into it bc you can't legally play it out of japan and mostly can only watch playthroughs of it that exist on youtube. it's really the only reason why i want an official translation; mother 3 is a really dark, really sad game that's technically rated "all ages" in japan but would certainly get a teen rating elsewhere, so if it DID get a localization it may be toned down which i wouldn't want, as its darker elements are crucial to its message and impact. but i also really want to see more people enjoy it. and have more people to throw my extremely complicated headcanons at

Its hard for me to differentiate sometimes between what is a hyperfixation and what is becoming a special interest thanks to the audhd combo lol

Right now though its knitting! Sewing is a special interest but I tend to pick up other crafts or fiber arts as hyperfixations in between big sewing projects. I'm trying to determine if knitting will also end up becoming a special interest... guess time will tell.

Sometimes I get interested in something and it will start as a hyperfixation but I'll end up hating it lol. That was me for crochet. I have tried several times and I'll get really excited, purchase new yarn and needles, but then I hate crocheting. I'm grateful knitting I actually do love though so I can find a use for all this yarn xD

I get super embarrassed to talk about my special interest/hyperfixations because how the hell do I explain Starlight Express to someone?? "hi yes i am very neurodivergent, you can tell because my favorite musical is about trains which is written by the same guy who made the cats musical"

now that the london revival has been confirmed i have been biting my tongue to not infodump to my friends ITS AWFUL !!!!!!

I have a few hyperfixations/special interests, but the biggest one of note lately/the one I can't shut up about (to the chagrin of literally everybody in my life) are orcas. I can't stop talking about orcas.

Orcinus orca has long been the only extant species of the genus Orcinus, however new research has supported that there are likely at least two other species - Orcinus rectipinnus (Bigg's or transient orcas) and Orcinus ater (resident orcas). These are both species found on the Northern Pacific shelf. In support, we have that the animals have different morphology, societal structures, hunting structures, acoustics, mitochondrial DNA (and several other different genetic markers), dietary differences (one is a marine mammal eater, the other specialises in salmon), and more. In 50 years of monitoring, the two species have never associated, let alone interbred.

Also very passionate about cetaceans in general and the morality and practicality of the captivity of intelligent animals, but especially marine mammals and cetaceans (such as any member of the family Delphinidae).
