As a general rule, I would highly recommend not to expect edits in regular litters. 95 times out of 100 it's going to lead to disappointment.
Edits in regular litters are not common but a nice surprise when it does happen, like with the PPS otter this month. But usually edits are reserved for events, stores and staff/gh litters and other special occasions with the occasional treat in the monthlies.
I absolutely love the cats, they're beautiful <3

And because of that I think a good chunk of people are saving their high demand doubles to use when they miss the next high demand pet- I know that's my strategy at least for when my luck runs out. I'm hoping that the crazy demand for the otter will ease once there are other fully grown outcomes that people can swap.
All of this just makes me worried about the general future of the site; I'm not sure how long I can deal with all newly ramped up stress and tedium of monthly trading, and am coming to dread each new set of adopts because fighting that uphill battle when you get unlucky is awful
Yeah I know qq it is kind of upsetting, I saw that the swap thread for the lunar dragon is still going on in March it feels almost impossible to get the outcome you want if it's that kind
I am even considering trading the dragon for the otter but I am just not sure because the dragon is so high demand and I want to wait until I know the rarity but I do prefer the otter pps to the dragon (-no offense to Lilian Nightshade at all the results are beautiful I am just a cat person!)
I am sad I really want it because I love it's design but also I do not want to overpay because i do not like no swaps for unknown rarity but also do not think I can get it without having an high demand pet (-which I do but like I do not want to risk because if the lunar egg is euc or even rare then I could trade for some of my 2023 favs....)

I think the PPS otter will likely be easier to trade for down the line. People can continue to adopt until the end of the month and there are already late adopts that are still growing which will mean eventually more of them in circulation. I also feel like once more of the otters are fully grown there will be more free swapping because I know a lot of people hesitate to trade early in case of splits.
I didn't have too much trouble finding one, but I did swap a pps otter I had a dupe of from last year but I was okay and offering that.

I think I'm already sick of this new "random rare monthly outcome" trend, and I wasn't even in support of it in the first place. It's irritating enough trying to find the random high demand outcome or two in events that everyone expects absurd overpays for, and now I have to deal with this basically every month too?

I don't think this has even happened yet. January didn't have anything particularly rarer than usual, unless you count the pink PPS rat. And I don't think February has anything particularly rare either,
maybe that chocolate covered gummy rat but I really don't think so. We'll see when they get their rarities.
People just latch onto the popular pets because of hype and
just in case it's that shiny rare outcome legends speak about.
I absolutely loathe it too though. I hate that monthly rares won the vote..

I don't think it's a bad thing to have it at all, and I'm very happy it won the vote. I think the main issue will be trying to get the pet while everyone believes it to be super rare and everyone wants it, people overpay like crazy. But after a month or two the craze dies down and you can pay normal monthlies or a rare from the same year if it becomes rare. Same thing happened with the lunar dragon, I got offered a 2014 rare for mine, then I traded for it a couple of weeks later for regular monthlies lol its just the hype.
But won't it be so amazing when you get that rare pet, you can trade it for 100 times the value if you wanted to, or keep it knowing you had good luck.
I think newbies getting the *chance* at a rare pet that they can trade for overpay to help them get older pets and older rares is a really good idea. I remember starting out and just the concept of the rare was insane to me, I valued any rare I had because they were difficult to get

My trading advice, beside waiting for the hype to die down a bit, is to not only look at the swap threads. To be fully honest, 90% of my successful trades happened by just looking at the list of online users at the bottom of the forum page and searching until I find the trade I want. Sometimes you'll have to wait or retry, but I've found it works way better than just checking the swap threads, as many users don't use them.

That's what I do too.
I always start with the swap thread because it's just objectively faster. But if the pet I'm missing is suffering from hype, then I stalk the online users list. It's time consuming, but usually way waaay cheaper than the trade forums.

It usually start the weekend before Easter, so I expect it to start next weekend, the 22. or the 23. :D
