The air stank, but Mountain Fog knew better than to say a word of it. She meandered between cats of all kinds with her moremates close on her tail. Oak Spine looked terrified, and Snow Fever looked bored, but Mountain Fog was driven on by the knowledge she wouldn't have to babysit either of them soon.
"Alright. I need to speak with the others, you two meet me back at that rock," She tossed her head in the direction of a silver stone that glimmered in the moonlight. "Once you're done."
"Hmph." Snow Fever gave a nod before disappearing into the throng. How a molly that huge could vanish so easily was beyond Mountain Fog.
"Don't forget these cats have no loyalty to THE MIRE. Don't get too chummy with them," When the young tom gave her a spooked look, his fur bushed out at every end, she cuffed his ear. "Don't worry. They'll hate you and your dumb face anyway."
"HEY!" Before he could retort, Mountain Fog slipped away from him.

After being left alone, the massive nature of the hollow began to suffocate him. His pelt itched at the eyes surrounding him, and the tom rushed and shouldered through all different groups, yelping apologies all along the way. He stumbled over his own paws until crashing into a trunk hidden by moss.
"Ow..." He hissed, sitting up. How could his Dignitary leave him like that?? It's her job to make sure everything goes smoothly! How in THE MIRE'S name was he going to make it through this night?

Snow Fever moved through clusters with ease. What her size didn't intimidate, her strength pushed aside. Gently, of course. As sour as she was, she didn't intend on leaving any physical injuries in her wake. Only ones to pride. Many of the other healer-types were mingling already, but she had a limited interest in them. Most, she doubted, did not know the methods she did, nor would they be useful given their varying stocks of medicines. Instead, she lurked at the edge between them and the fighter-types. She looked far more similar to them anyhow.

      CHESSCLAN !!

Freuxfreckle | Tom - Knight - 74 Moons - Tagged: Oak Spine (Sanctum of the Tar-Eaters)
Freuxfreckle watched curiously as a tom stumbled through the Gathering and collided rather loudly with a tree trunk. He seemed to be muttering to himself, clearly not all that happy to be attending the event tonight. Freuxfreckle gathered himself together and padded over, making sure he could be seen and heard from a ways away so as not to seem as if he were sneaking up on the stranger. "Hello there," he called, tilting his head oh so slightly to the side. "My name's Freuxfreckle, knight of ChessClan. Who might you be? I don't recognize your Clan's scent," he meowed, pausing to sniff the air. It was truly a new smell to him, unlike any of the other Clans he had ever crossed paths with. Admittedly, that had been very few, only the Clans who were near enough to happen across ChessClan's border, but they clearly did not live in the mountains or forest like Freuxfreckle was used to. "You might not have heard of ChessClan, but we're pretty well-known. We're really big and we live in those far off mountains in this gorgeous hidden valley. We're surrounded by snowy peaks on all sides. It's absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful," he rambled, trying to drum up a conversation.

      THE OUTBACK RUNNERS !!

Autumnleaves had had such a wonderful time at the last Gathering that here she stood again. The Outback Runners weren't often known to attend the Gatherings so regularly, but she had volunteered and Marbledstar had agreed. Even though the journey was long and tiresome, Autumnleaves felt it was worth it. She was dazzled by the sights and smells before her, and she longed to meet a cat from a new Clan. After meeting Canarystar last time, she'd realized just how vast the world really was. Clans could live in the deserts and the mountains, the forests and the beaches. Cats were amazing creatures, in Autumnleaves's mind, so adaptable to all environments and climates. She suppressed a giggle at the thought of cats who lived exclusively in the treetops, but she sombered as she remembered that that Clan had perished in a terrible fire some moons ago. Refusing to let her mood sour, she lifted her head and began to pick through the crowd before her.

      THE WEYRCATS !!

    Flurry | Molly - Weyrhealer - 50 Moons - Tagged: Open
Flurry had learned much at the last Gathering, so it had been no surprise when Magma suggested she attend again. The journey had taken several sunrises, and she knew she really shouldn't stay the whole night. She needed to begin the journey back as soon as possible, but Magma would be disappointed if she didn't return with something new this moon. She was here on a mission for her former mentor, and she wasn't going to let her down. She didn't want to butt into any cat's existing conversation, so she slid along the edge of the mass of healers before seating herself just far enough away that it showed she was alone. She quickly pulled on a hopeful expression so that others might realize she wanted someone to approach her. She was used to this, pulling on masks so others could see only what she wanted them to, but it was normal and comforting to her. She kept thinking about the sky and moon, hoping that she wasn't scaring cats off by seeming too eager.

THE ORDER OF THE HYENA !!

Mongoose's Chatter grinned as he approached the Gathering once more. He had been to several now. Twice he had returned with new pups, or news of new pups to come. He knew his mates would not want him to do that again, so he purposefully avoided the corner of the clearing where the loners and rogues and kittypets who were visiting liked to gather. That was where he had met Joan B'Ark and Yippee, and he knew of several others who had been able to start a family due to the cats that lingered there. It was also true that cats fell in love at the Gathering or found surrogates in other Clans, but he knew he had plenty of loving cats waiting for him back at the Order's camp. Aardvark's Dig and Meerkat's Burrow would be curled up in their nest, and they'd jump out and demand every single detail the second he got back. The thought made him smile as he sat and made himself comfortable. His numerous pups, both grown and not, would likely find him the next day and beg for a story from the Gathering. Even the ones that were grown still acted like they belonged in the nursery sometimes, but he wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. It was nice to feel needed, he thought to himself.

"Ah, hello, um. I'm Oak Spine..." The gravel in the handsome tom's voice told of his age, and made him feel tiny in comparison. Maybe standing next to the huge mollies that were Mountain Fog and Snow Fever was getting to him. With a quick breath, he sat up straighter, his stomach churning at the thought that one of his moremates were inspecting his behavior. "Ahem. My name is Oak Spine, Deacon from the Sanctum of the Tar-Eaters. I'm not surprised our groups haven't met, it took us three and a half days to make it here. Our home is through the taiga and in the tundra, just outside a people-place. We stole one of their creations long ago. We uh... w-we typically keep to ourselves and I don't believe any of us have participated in anything quite like this before. Your territory sounds like nothing I've ever seen, but we know snow." Anxious he'd let on that he was such a new face with his own kind, Oak Spine did his best to recite his lines smoothly. Star Fall had helped him all night and day she could, which was far easier now that she was taking more time in the Sanctum with the kits coming. That thought only threatened to distract him from the conversation more and he certainly didn't want to seem disinterested (he wasn't, he promises) so he shut it down. "What does a ChessClan knight do?"

      CHESSCLAN !!

Freuxfreckle | Tom - Knight - 74 Moons - Tagged: Oak Spine (Sanctum of the Tar-Eaters)
Oak Spine spoke of a home in the tundra, and it agreed with the sharp coldness that lingered in his scent. Freuxfreckle listened to the tom speak, noting the uncertainty and wariness. The Sanctum of the Tar-Eaters must be a very small and relatively new Clan for the tom to already be so unsettled at the Gathering. Freuxfreckle could remember when ChessClan was small, the fond memory causing a small smile to dash across his muzzle. Those days were long gone, the camp having been expanded too many times to count to make room for new knights and pawns alike. "Knights are like warriors. We take care of the day-to-day hunting and patrolling so that our bishop may heal, our rook may strategize, and our king may lead. We also are the ones to train our squires in the ways of knighthood and ChessClan. What is a deacon?" he asked, remembering the strange role the tom claimed to have. He knew Clans had all sorts of unique names for healers and knights and kits, but he'd never heard of one using that term. This Clan was clearly far different from ChessClan, which tended to be more like the traditional Clan now that the curse was broken, but Freuxfreckle quickly contained his excitement about the thought of meeting such a unique cat.

Oak Spine could only imagine. If ChessClan were that large, surely they were imposing! And loud. There was a comfort to be had among a small number of moremates, even if it made fighting off cold and hunger and... KIBE... more difficult. He shuddered at the thought. It was almost a guarantee that creature would take a swipe at them before HIS season ended.
"Most of the time I remain in the Sanctum itself. My main job is to protect and interpret the fires. My moremates have kept them alive for generations, even when there was only one of us. Our Devouring Mouth, I-I'd guess he's on par with your King, he's very busy in the winter, we all are. There's no rest for us this blasted season, not with KIBE on the prowl. I was very lucky to be granted permission by THE MIRE and him to be here. My mate's a very convincing molly, aha, she's my world alright," Oak Spine rose to his paws to sit more comfortably, swiping his tail across the ground before covering his paws. The leaflitter tickled him. It was almost overstimulating compared to the gentleness of fresh snow. Still, the soothing nature of Freuxfreckles voice put him at ease. "If you have a spiritual role in your Clan, that is what I take on. We also are the guards of the Sanctum against natural threats. May..." He glanced around for a moment, in case Mountain Fog was somewhere near, then lowered his voice until the bicolor tom had to lean in to hear him. "May I know about your Clan's spiritual beliefs..?

      CHESSCLAN !!

Freuxfreckle | Tom - Knight - 74 Moons - Tagged: Oak Spine (Sanctum of the Tar-Eaters)
Freuxfreckle almost laughed at the thoughts he could see running through Oak Spine's mind. He clearly was intimidated by ChessClan's size, but Freuxfreckle couldn't blame him. He was barely tolerant of it himself. As Oak Spine spoke of his Clan, the questions nearly fell out of Freuxfreckle's mouth before he could stop them. "What's a Kibe? Why are the fires so important? Are there other deacons that protect your fires?" he asked, excited at the thought. Finally, Oak Spine moved on to fondly speaking of his mate. Freuxfreckle's heart gave a sharp twist at the word, Rookstar flashing through his mind. It'd been several seasons since his passing now, yet everything that reminded Freuxfreckle of him still hurt. Even looking at Dauphinchatter, who looked so much like his father, occasionally took his breath away as his chest constricted. As Oak Spine asked about spiritual beliefs in conspiratorial way, Freuxfreckle paused to ponder. "We believe the cats who previously called ChessClan home live in one of two afterlives. ÉtoileClan is for those good of heart, and NoirClan is a mirror for those evil of heart. Most cats go to ÉtoileClan, but plenty call NoirClan home. We have no gods, but our ancestors speak to us through our bishop, who is also our healer, with prophecies and warnings. Occasionally they walk among our dreams, those we loved who have moved on," his voice trailed off as he remembered the last time Rookstar had visited him. It was immediately clear that it wasn't just a dream, and it had nearly destroyed him to say goodbye again. It was a good thing those were infrequent for every cat. Having to say goodbye over and over again without knowing when the next time you'd see them, and only in your dreams, was a special kind of torture. "How about your Clan? I'd be delighted to learn more about your spiritual beliefs!"

MAY 2024 — 001

Postby chaotic creativity » Mon May 06, 2024 10:35 am

      CHESSCLAN !!

Nebulaspeckle slowed to a trot, then a walk, then stopped. Her chest was heaving as she stilled her racing heart and gasping lungs, regaining her well-known composure after traveling at a sprint to arrive at the Gathering on time. She heard paws behind her as the rest of ChessClan's patrol caught up to her. They had discussed what was expected of them prior to leaving, so she cast a quick glance over her shoulder to ensure everyone had arrived before slipping down into the mass of cats. It was easy to follow the pungent smell of herbs that followed healers wherever they went, a small smile flickering across her muzzle as she spotted a few familiar faces. She had not attended many Gatherings, but her clanmates had often described the other healers they had met. Healers' alliances were not tied to their own Clan; their alliances were to the care of cats who could not help themselves. If that meant helping each other during troubling times, then so be it. As Nebulaspeckle made her way to the roots of a tree, fully planning to nestle herself against it so that some weight would be taken off her paws, she subtly scanned the cats around her. There were fewer than her last; it seemed attendance at the Gatherings had been dwindling these past few moons. As she settled into the spot she'd chosen, she made sure to smile so that cats knew she was friendly and waiting for a conversation.

      THE WEYRCATS !!

    Spark | Molly - Wing - 44 Moons - Tagged: Open
Spark was late. She knew she was, but it felt amazing to just wander and stare at the sky without worrying about where her weyrlings were or how they were doing. She loved being a mother. She genuinely, truly did. It was, however, nice to have a break. It was nice to be so far away from them that they couldn't bother her, even if it were just for tonight. They were in the paws of their mentors now, but she was still their mother. Amaranth and Bismuth continue to bicker, nearly non-stop. Jacinth lived in her own little world while learning how to heal. Flurry, the weyrhealer in charge of her training, always seemed to sing her praises, but Spark worried that Jacinth was too often lost in her own thoughts. Most questions were answered with "Huh?", and that didn't bode well for when she would need to listen to her patients explain their symptoms. She loved her weyrlings; she loved them more than she had ever loved anything else. Still, it was hard not to constantly worry about them while they were still so small. They're already eight moons, she scolded herself, but she couldn't help seeing their tiny little bodies barely the size of a single dragon claw. She was pulled back to reality after nearly bumping into a stranger, to whom she offered a sheepish smile before slipping away. She needed to focus on the here and now, not on the worries she was so desperate for a break from. With a deep breath, she plunged deeper in the crowd to find a conversation to take her mind off of her weyrlings.

JANUARY 2025 — 001

Postby chaotic creativity » Sat Jan 04, 2025 1:26 pm

Nebulaspeckle looked over her shoulder at Lionceauroar and Wildbriar. The older tom had his head ducked as he whispered something in the younger molly's ear, likely threatening her if she didn't behave. She was still young, barely out of her mother's nest, even if she had been named a full knight. Nebulaspeckle had been opposed to her attending the Gathering entirely, her name all too similar to her personality, but Lionceauroar had vouched for her. In the eyes of Richterstar, that meant she was as good as gold. "I'm not responsible if she doesn't anything feather-brained tonight. You're in charge of her," she called over her shoulder, flicking her ear as she parted from their patrol and trotted toward the section designated solely for healers.

"If you do anything to embarrass me, I'll make you wish you'd never been born," Lionceauroar murmured in Wildbriar's ear. He smirked as the molly's eyes widened with a tinge of fear, biting back a laugh. His mentor had threatened much the same, all those moons ago, any time Lionceauroar had been required to be seen by a large number of cats. He'd always been much more inclined to misbehavior than his sister, Faondapple, so he knew which wheels were turning in Wildbriar's head as she assessed the growing group of cats before them. As Nebulaspeckle warned him of his looming responsibility, he flicked his tail at Wildbriar's face. "I'll come check in on you periodically, but you're on your own for the most part. Come find me if you need anything," he sighed, knowing he needed to be a remotely friendly face just in case the young knight did find herself in trouble. With that, he watched her race off into the Gathering. He took his time, tossing friendly smiles at faces he remembered from previous Gatherings. It had been a while, but it felt good to be back.

    Wildbriar | Molly - Knight - 13 Moons - Tagged: Open
Wildbriar rolled her eyes as Nebulaspeckle meowed one last warning, then smiled as Lionceauroar promised to keep an eye on her. She took off at a brisk trot, rushing through the crowds as she tried to glimpse every single cat near her. Maybe someone wanted to talk? What other kinds of Clans were out there? Were there Clans bigger than ChessClan? Smaller than ChessClan? So many questions tumbled through her mind that she couldn't help but stop and stare off into space. Nobody seemed particularly inviting yet, but maybe she'd spot a friendlier face soon.

      JAGUARCLAN !!

Coatimundistar paused to take a deep breath as the Gathering finally came into view. This was her first time presenting herself as a leader to any cat not in her Clan. Her mother had gone to several of these Gatherings, so how was she going to explain that she had taken over? That all nine lives had been ripped from her right before her eyes? That she had just stared helplessly as the rogues won? She shook her head to clear the dark thoughts, shuddering as Carneliansight stepped up beside her and leaned against her gently. Doepool approached her other side, sister to the cat who had saved her life. These two were exactly who she needed with her tonight, but she couldn't stop them from enjoying their time with old and new friends alike. "Go enjoy the Gathering. I'll be fine. I'll come find you if I need you," she murmured. As the two started off in their own directions, she forced her eyes to where the leaders were standing. It was now or never.

Carneliansight knew Coatimundistar was terrified. He knew she was being taken back to the night her mother had died. Before the telltale shivers could hit, he leaned against her gently. She took in a deep breath and sank into his touch. Slothclaw may have been the one to save her, but Carneliansight cared for her deeply. He had watched how she was raised, and he knew the horrors she had seen. She needed support, and he would be there for her for however long she needed. As she urged them to go, he quickly set off. He didn't dare look back at her, knowing she was probably watching. He'd check in on her at some point, but excitement had filled him as he rushed toward the others.

Doepool's heart ached for Coatimundistar. Slothclaw had fretted over her for the past moon, and Doepool had started having worries of her own. She was holding up as a leader so far, but what if it all came crashing down? A cat could only endure so much, and Coatimundistar had to be reaching her limit. She took off soon after being told to, happy to put distance between herself and the leader. Tonight was supposed to be enjoyable, and she wouldn't have fun if she spent it close to her.

      THE WEYRCATS !!

    Glass | Molly - Wingleader - 61 Moons - Tagged: Open
Glass narrowed her eyes at Coconut and Ember. Ember's mentor, Ice, hadn't been able to come, and Coconut was happy to step up and take her place. "If either of you so much as step one paw out of line, you'll be cleaning out the elders' nests for two moons," Glass growled, pointing her nose at Ember. "I know you're young, but that's no excuse. Act like a proper cats, or you'll never leave the Weyr again," she snarled. She waved her tail and dismissed the two, turning towards the other deputies.

    Coconut | Non-binary - Wing - 41 Moons - Tagged: Open
Coconut flinched as Glass threatened them, all too eager to take off once she was done. Ember was gone in a flash, and Coconut hurried to get as far into the throng as they could. They just wanted a nice, easy conversation to pass the time. They wanted to find someone that was nowhere near like Glass.

    Ember | Molly - Weyrling - 9 Moons - Tagged: Open
Ember bit back the urge to stick her tongue out at Glass. The Wingleader didn't scare her. Nothing scared her! She darted away as soon as she was dismissed, not even checking to make sure Coconut made it out with their whiskers intact. Glass wasn't usually this snappy, but it was her first time at a Gathering in a very long time. That tended to make a cat jittery, she guessed. Still, it was Ember's first time at all. She wasn't snippy or jittery or nervous. She was purely excited to meet someone new. They'd traveled through a very long cave that felt weird to get here, and the plants and animals didn't look the same. The sky didn't even look the same. Glass had explained they were not on Pern anymore, but Ember didn't fully believe her. They couldn't just leave their entire planet, could they?

Silverstar -- 81 moons -- tom [he/him] -- leader -- tagged: open
The gathering... it felt mostly surreal. He wasn't sure ChaosClan's spot with other clans right now, so Silverstar had chosen to keep his company small. Just a few. Him, Foxglovesnap, and Flameclaw. He wondered if he should have brought a more experienced warrior, but Flameclaw already seemed to be attempting to find someone to talk to. He knew that the young tom would prove his clan proud, and he sat back to watch the young warrior for a moment, briefly forgetting to find a conversational partner of his own.

Foxglovesnap -- 33 moons -- she-cat [she/her] -- healer -- tagged: open
Her first gathering. Part of her wished that Waspstrike was here to be with her, but part of her was glad that she could be her own cat without her sister. Foxglovesnap found herself sitting on the edge of everything, unsure if she should seek out other healers, or if she could just wander around on her own and observe. She watched both Silverstar and Flameclaw enter the fray, but still, some part of her brain was holding her back for the moment.

Flameclaw -- 12 moons -- tom -- Hunter -- tagged: Wildbriar [ChessClan; chaoticcreativity]
Flameclaw was nearly buzzing with the opportunity to go to his first gathering. Silverstar had only wanted to take a limited number of cats away from the clan, and he was the only warrior chosen! He wanted to prove to Silverstar that he was the right choice. After all, he had gotten to come here as a celebration for being so young and passing his training and becoming a warrior. Before any of his littermates. Before the older apprentices. Flameclaw was a hard worker, and he was proud of it - yet, not too proud that he wanted to be a cat that seemed arrogant.

Instead, Flameclaw took to walking around, keeping his gaze flitting between other cats, trying to catch bits of conversation to see if there was anyone to talk to about another clan. He wanted to learn so much! His eyes caught on a young looking cat, and he paused, trying to see if she would converse with him. "Hi there!" He greeted, a few tail lengths away. He tried his best to give a smile, wanting to seem friendly but not overly excitable like an apprentice. "This is a big place, isn't it?" He decided to open the conversation with, gazing around at the open space of the gathering.

MeadowClan

Scorpionthroat -- 55 moons -- she-cat [she/her] -- deputy -- tagged: open
She was ready to get information on other clans. Not for spying purposes, but Scorpionthroat was curious how other clans were led. She had heard that some had two leaders, some even having split leadership more, but she wasn't sure if that was an anomaly, a rumor, or completely false. Or maybe MeadowClan was the strange one. Whatever the case, Scorpionthroat found herself pacing near the exact middle point of the gathering, trying to find someone experienced to talk to.

Azaleawhisker -- 15 moons -- tom [he/him] -- Warrior -- tagged: open
He was thrilled to be here, to be able to see new things and report to his littermates all the sights and sounds and smells. Azaleawhisker was still young, and still had the curiosity of a kit - as many of his clanmates liked to joke with him about. Azaleawhisker saw himself as fun-loving, always wanting to try new things and experience all life had to offer. That's why he was one of the first to volunteer to come with Scorpionthroat, though most others seemed to want to stay back for the meantime.

Pinyonclan 01

Postby tauriel. » Sat Jan 04, 2025 4:04 pm

Sagestar X - female - 42 moons - leader - tagged: open

Sagestar's mint-green eyes swept through the crowd, picking out her clanmates with ease. The leader spotted Reese's chocolate and tan fur near the edge of the gathering, elegant Swandance gliding through the crowd, and Pearpaw nervously looking around the crowd with wide eyes. Sagestar had been a little worried about bringing such a young cat, but apprentices always went to gatherings right? Sagestar hadn't wanted to risk bringing Rookstep's litter yet, not when the three of them were so mischievous and impulsive and Mistlepaw was injured so Pearpaw had been the only other apprentice possible. Pearpaw would be fine though, Sagestar assured herself, reminding herself that Swandance and Reese would both keep an eye on her. Sagestar settled herself comfortably near the other leaders, calmly observing for now. Pinyonclan still felt like such a new, young clan and they hadn't been to enough gatherings for her to know many of the other clans and feel comfortable approaching the other leaders.

Reese X- male - 75 moons - warrior - tagged: open

Reese found himself relaxing near the edge of the crowd, not far enough to be isolated from the crowd, just close enough to feel included, even if he wasn't currently talking with any cat. With his long fur, Reese was enjoying the chill of the air, so different from Pinyonclan's warmer land. It didn't get nearly so chilly in their territory and Reese wasn't entirely sure how Swandance could handle it with her short fur but if it bothered her, Reese couldn't tell. Yawning a little, Reese let his attention wander curiously from cat to cat, waiting to see which cat he'd end up talking with tonight.

Swandance X- female - 32 moons - warrior - tagged: open

Throughout Pinyonclan's journey to the gathering, Swandance had been careful to stay by her apprentice's side, murmuring gentle encouragement to her. The elegant young molly could sense Pearpaw's undercurrent of nerves even if Pearpaw wasn't interested in discussing it. It was understandable, Pearpaw was still so young that she was still learning Pinyonclan's territory. Having assured Pearpaw that she'd remain nearby if she needed anything, Swandance moved fluidly through the crowd, searching for someone to spend her evening talking with.

Pearpaw X - female - 6 moons - apprentice - tagged: Ember(Weyrcats)

Pearpaw didn't want to admit it but she was nervous. Her first gathering ever and without either her parents or her den-mates, although it was perhaps best that Rookstep's troublemaking triplets weren't with her. The three of them were mischievous enough among their clan that Sagestar likely wanted to keep them close to home until she knew that they would behave. Swandance's gentle encouragement swam through the blue ragdoll's mind as she glanced around, her gaze searching through the mass of cats for the other apprentices. Before Sagestar had led the clan out, her mother, Frostflower, had advised Pearpaw to seek out the other apprentices and talk with them. the idea of meeting cats outside of Pinyonclan was so strange, so foreign in her mind, that she didn't know what to expect. The smoke's gaze caught a nearby torbie who looked young and small enough that Pearpaw took a tentative step towards her, trying to channel Swandance's calmness. "Hello," She mewed, trying not to betray her nerves and keep her fur flat along her spine.
