out of the pets ive had/pet sitted for a substantial amount of time dogs, fish, hermit crabbies, rabbits, goats and probably some other animals im forgetting, chickens are the best pets imo. if its not obvious enough, i think there super underated and a great option if you live with enough space or in a rural area. they give back more than you give them in personality and eggs/meat. they come in many different sizes, colors, shapes, and aren't intrusive to your space much like a cat or dog and are relatively cheap. it makes me sad when people only see chickens as food or the hens as emotionless egg factories. but i think that its totally fine to eat chickens and their eggs, as long as you are able to acknowledge that chickens are as much of an alive animal as sheep you see at petting zoos or even your own dog or cat.
