β˜† ─── BIRDSONG.
i fell in love at the orange show speedway -
but i’ve never been here in my life

    moonlitclan warrior β˜† she-cat
    tags/mentions; leafstorm, oakpool
    ───────────────────────

Much like their namesake, Birdsong rises early.

It’s a little earlier than they tend to wake - next to them, Leafstorm still sleeps away. She’s a warm presence, pressed against them, and Birdsong almost lets themself drift back asleep. It wouldn’t have been hard - sleep still clings to her eyes and in the corners of her mind, and the warmth threatens to drag her back under.

    But she forces herself awake.

Birdsong yawns, blinking back the sleepiness that clings to her, and slowly stands, careful not to disrupt her sister. She slowly stretches, flicks out her paw when she finishes to clean her face, and pads out of the den.

She glances around, gaze settling on the new, makeshift den in the corner of camp. Birdsong feels bad for the displaced cats - they don’t know how they couldn’t - but some quiet part in their brain wants them to leave soon, more for their own sake. They don’t know how they would handle being in their position, and they send a quiet thank you to StarClan that they aren’t.

Birdsong’s gaze flitters around again and she finally lands on Oakpool. Her tail twitches and something in Birdsong’s chest clenches and settles and she decides to talk to her. She peers over at the fresh-kill pile and quickly trots over to it - it could stand to have more prey, what with the six extra mouths - then carefully picks up a small bird and a mouse. Their tail twitches once more and they bound over to the rock that Oakpool sits on, watching over the clan.

Carefully, Birdsong sets the prey down at their paws and then calls up with a small smile; β€œHey. You want some food?”

-------------------------------
β˜† ─── LEAFSTORM.
we're nothing less than a work
in progress; sacred text on post-it notes

    moonlitclan warrior β˜† she-cat
    tags/mentions; birdsong, oakpool, ivyclaw
    ───────────────────────

It’s faint and fleeting - more of a half-awake experience than anything else.

Leafstorm drifts in and out of sleep, warm and cozy with her tail over her nose and back to her sister’s. She’s never been the heaviest sleeper, but she’s always been able to fall back asleep just as easily - so in Leafstorm’s own professional opinion, it works out in her favor. She gets to listen to the warriors’ den slowly come to life, and she can just as easily fall back asleep until the day finally has to start.

She feels Birdsong’s warmth disappear, and a small part of her mourns the comfort. She hears her sister’s pawsteps fade as they exit the den and peeks an eye out, staring at the entrance covered in dappled moonlight. Closing her eye, Leafstorm settles back into her nest to finish resting before someone (probably Oakpool, Birdsong, or Ivyclaw) inevitably drags her by the ear into the waking world - likely for some sort of patrol.

-------------------------------
β˜† ─── BLAZINGPAW.
    all that's left of myself;
    holes in my false confidence

    moonlitclan med. apprentice β˜† tom
    tags/mentions; fennelglow, kindlepaw
    ───────────────────────

Blazingpaw isn't sure what time he woke up, or how long he had been asleep for. He thinks he got a brief nap - enough that Fennelglow won't stare him down and tell him he needs to go get "proper rest," at least. But it’s not his fault - honest!! (…well, okay, maybe a little.)

There's been something small nagging Blazingpaw recently. It's absolutely nothing he's going to tell Fennelglow about because he knows he's being ridiculous, so it stays in the deepest corner of his mind, tucked away and a part of him hoping that he forgets all about his worries and issues. He doesn't fault EmberClan (or, more specifically, Kindlepaw) for his sudden bout of-

Oh, are they almost out of marigold?

He blinks back his thoughts, circling around in his head of a constant mantra of not good enough not worthy they’ll see it soon starclan did not good enough not worthy and narrows his eyes, scanning the divots and cracks in the rocks where Fennelglow has shown him where to store herbs and other various things they need to help the clan. Marigold, poppy, they could probably use some more moss soon...

(he wonders, again, for the tenth time since he woke up why he hadn't had the same dream that his mentor and the other medicine cat apprentice had had. was he not worthy? was he not meant to be a medicine cat? was-)

His ears perk and swivel to the entrance of the den. His head shifts, eyes still trained on the crack in front of him - did they need to get more cobwebs or can he just not see very well right now? - and then finally turns his full attention to Kindlepaw.

"Close enough," Blazingpaw says with a small smile. He dips his head in a quiet hello, then sits down, draping his tail over his paws. "What brings you in? I can grab Fennelglow if you need her."

-------------------------------
β˜† ─── RAVENSIGHT.
    left at the graveyard,
    i'm driving past ghosts.

    emberclan's lover β˜† tom
    tags/mentions; emberclan
    ───────────────────────

Ravensight will never, ever voice this - especially not to the apprentices - but he wonders, sometimes, if StarClan had abandoned EmberClan the night before the attacks. For the last three moons, every time he's closed his eyes, every time he finds a moment of silence, he can hear the screams. He hears Robinstar's final words, in one ear and out the other at the time, as he had frantically looked for his kits, who had just become apprentices the sunrise prior. He finally pinpoints Hollypaw - and he screams in despair as he watches her crumble underneath a cat nearly triple her size. Ivypaw was never far behind. His sweet, precious Hollypaw and Ivypaw, struck to the ground next to each other. He remembers screaming for Ashpaw, voice barely heard above the commotion as he manages to strike an enemy back.

Every time he closes his eyes, he sees Ivypaw and Hollypaw lying on the forest floor. He sees Ashpaw a few tail-lengths away from his sisters, eyes wide in terror, and Ravensight can do nothing but scream as his vision becomes blurred by an enemy. (every time, ravensight hears his son screaming for him and watches as he collapses tail-lengths away from his sisters. every single time, ravensight wishes he could've given his kits the burial they deserved.)

His thoughts, more often than not, are clouded by his kits and Willowheart. If StarClan is still here, are they watching over him? Are they finally together again, with his kits hating him for never doing enough to save them?

Ravensight takes a shuttered breath and opens his eyes, forcing himself to blink back tears. He glances around the den - he doesn't think it's something he will ever get used to; how the clan he once loved with his entire being became nothing more than a wandering band who still clung to their old home's name. The scents that cling to the air are nothing like the forest where he grew up; where his clan had lost everything.

His gaze lingers a little longer over the cat who had switched sides; who had thrown away everything they once lived for to join them. It has been three moons, and Ravensight does not think he will ever ask them what prompted them to leave everything behind for the remains of a clan they tried to destroy.

He takes another sweep of the den, accepting that he's gone another night without sleep. Near where Birchpaw rests is an empty nest - he assumes that Kindlepaw has gotten up and left already. Across the den, Ravensight spots Cinderpaw, and he has to bite down on the urge to go and comfort the young tom. He knows that Cinderpaw wouldn't appreciate it. He finally spots Sootpatch- no, Sootstar. Sootstar. He doesn't know why he keeps forgetting.

Ravensight rests his head back down onto his paws, softly exhaling as he closes his eyes. Rest, at this point, is useless, but fretting over everyone's safety won't help either.

Something about the way that the morning light broke through the tree branches made the camp seem all the more peaceful. The orange glaze that settled over the earth from the sunrise was one of the sights that motivated Oakpool to rise early in the morning.

Well, that and being awake before her clanmates. She felt that it was important that her clanmates see her rise first, and not sleep in during the mornings. Like she needed to be a picture of strength for them.

Oakpool’s ears perked up as she heard movement from the inside of the warrior’s den. She gently swiped her paw over her face to wipe any remaining sleep from her eyes, waking herself more as the clan was starting to wake. After casting another soft look at the last remaining stars left in the sky, her gaze found Birdsong as she walked toward the fresh-kill pile. Something in the she-cat’s chest warmed as she spotted her friend, the tip of her tail twitching happily as she made her way over.

β€œHello, Birdsong,” she chirped with a little smile before she hopped off the rock she had perched herself on. β€œI would love some. Thank you,” she confirmed with a little dip of her head in greeting. She scooped the prey up in her jaws before finding a good place for the two to settle down in. β€œDid you sleep well?” she asked after setting the prey back down, her voice soft so as not to carry and wake or disturb the sleeping cats.

      ππˆπ‘π‚π‡ππ€π–
emberclan / the reckless / tags: kindlepaw [ment.], open...

Birchpaw feared nighttime and not because he was afraid of the dark. His dreams were plagued with flashes of terrors, nightmares that shook him from one scene to the other without even allowing the young cat to breathe. Sharpened claws. Destroyed dens. Bodies everywhere. His father's eyes, full of fear. The chaos in the centre of the battlefield. His father's eyes. The only constant. Blood. Birchpaw's own voice, howling. His father's eyes no longer on him.

After the first night Birchpaw had tried to resist his closing eyelids and heavy limbs. By the third day he realised with a start he could no longer remember the exact colour of his father's eyes, or the way they shined under the warm sunlight, or their light of annoyance whenever Birchpaw did something stupid.

Oh, how he wished he could see that reproachful look once again...

The young tom blinked the nightmares away. He wasn't surprised to note that the nest next to his was empty, although the strong lingering of Kindlepaw's scent told him she had just recently left. For a moment Birchpaw debated between staying at the stupid little nest these cats had built for them or go out and explore but it was an easy decision. Birchpaw was not meant for keeping still. With a sideways glance to the cats around him, who seemed to still rest, the apprentice padded through the brambles and kept to a side of the improvised den with watchful eyes. Strangers roamed the clearingβ€” strangers he did not trust.

How hard would it be to slip away, unnoticed?

moonlitclan / leader / tags: kindlepaw, blazingpaw, fennelglow [ment.]

Four days. That had been the agreement.

A few days for the cats from EmberClan to gather up their strength and set on their fateful ways. Even that decision had been made with difficulty and a fair share of resistance from his own Clan yet Falconstar knew he would have been incapable of moving forwards knowing he had signed a death sentence for the pleading cats. Certain cats (who Falconstar should probably have a private word with) had been almost -almost- openly hostile but kept to themselves.

But then... oh, then everything had changed. Starclan's warning. MoonlitClan hadn't had such a stark warning from Starclan in... well... it would be the first one Falconstar would face as a leader. The greatest danger comes from Those That Must Fall... Falconstar's apprehension tightened on his chest. He knew that everything he had faced up to this leaf-fall would seem almost like a joke compared to the imminent danger that threatened his Clan. And with Kindlepaw receiving the call as well as Fennelglow, it seemed obvious that the EmberClan cats were meant to be here.

Falconstar had been unable to sleep and the moonlight always managed to make him feel better, so while everyone nested in their respective dens he had made a quick round around the camp until he settled between a few big rocks just to look at the moon.

Guide me, Nightstar he prayed to the previous leader. What should I do? How can I keep my cats safe?

Stirring in the Clan caught his attention. In particular, the shape of a small cat moving from the edge of camp towards the medicine cat's den. Of course, Kindlepaw. Falconstar hesitated for a moment but then followed suit, finding EmberClan's medicine cat apprentice with Blazingpaw. 'Blazingpaw, Kindlepaw,' he dipped his head towards both apprentices while hovering near the entrance. 'I will take you up on that offer, Blazingpaw. Is Fennelglow here?'

(ii) birdsong. (ii) blazingpaw.

β˜† ─── BIRDSONG.
i fell in love at the orange show speedway -
but i’ve never been here in my life

    moonlitclan warrior β˜† she-cat
    tags/mentions; oakpool
    ───────────────────────

As the sunrise slowly trickles through the leaves and branches of the forest, something in Birdsong's chest unclenches. (they absolutely ignore the idea that it could be because of oakpool herself.)

They purr, meeting Oakpool's smile with a grin of their own. "But of course," she says with an easy-going grin, tail flicking in amusement. It's easy to follow Oakpool - something close to second nature; Birdsong's done it since they were apprentices. She picks up her own prey and follows close behind.

Birdsong is good with words - they always have been. When they were younger, they and Leafstorm were an incredible duo (they still are, obviously) - Birdsong would be able to talk to anyone, saying just the right thing, and Leafstorm could pick apart the words and fill in the blanks from there. That still hasn't changed - it's just not as often anymore, and Leafstorm tends to have gossip sessions with Ivyclaw (but Birdsong gets a lot of the details later, so it's not an arrangement they're mad about). But something, frustratingly enough, about Oakpool makes them stumble and think longer, and it's equally both frustrating and...

Well. Birdsong doesn't really know how to put it into words. Which, yes, the irony is there and in plain sight, thank you. It just takes longer to string together sentences.

They settle down, next to Oakpool but at a slight angle so they can see her better. Sunlight still trickles in through the overhang, but the two of them are in a slightly more shaded area. It's in an open enough area to where they can still see the clan coming to life this early in the morning, but secluded enough to where they can speak without many overhearing them if they're able to keep their voices down.

"I did," Birdsong says, careful to match Oakpool's volume. They glance off to the side, quietly mumbling, "Woke up a bit earlier than usual, though," then turns back to Oakpool. "How about yourself? Got any big plans for the day?"

β˜† ─── BLAZINGPAW.
    all that's left of myself;
    holes in my false confidence

    moonlitclan med. apprentice β˜† tom
    tags/mentions; fennelglow,
    kindlepaw, falconstar
    ───────────────────────

Blazingpaw blinks in slight surprise at the second voice, head lifting to see Falconstar standing in the entrance of the den. Something tiny in the back of his mind and heart constricts into itself and he has an inkling as to what the other two are now doing here. He bites back on the hurt jealousy confusion, hopes to StarClan it doesn't show on his face, and greets Falconstar.

"Falconstar," he says, dipping his head in a hello once more, voice steady. Good. "I believe she should be. If not, she'll be back shortly." He stands to his paws, ear flicking. He does not mention that he doesn't think he's seen Fennelglow yet this morning. "Let me go check."

Blazingpaw turns around and pads further into the den, carefully watching his steps and trying to not lose himself too far to his thoughts despite the bile threatening to rise. Some tiny, scathing part of him wants the EmberClan cats to leave so he doesn't have to think about how StarClan had chosen a stranger and his mentor didn't tell him herself-

"Fennelglow?" he calls out softly, looking around the area, trying to shake himself out of the thoughts that threaten to drown him. (he doesn't think the others knew he'd been there when they had spoken. would they have discussed everything if they'd known he could hear them? that he was within earshot?) "Are you in here? Falconstar and Kindlepaw wish to speak with you." (why didn't he get the same warning they did? why wasn't he told? by anyone! fennelglow could have told him - did she not think he was good enough?)

β™’ warrior β™’ twenty-two moonsβ™’ heterosexual β™’ location: pond, then camp β™’ tags: open β™’

having woken in the early hours of the morning, honeyfern watched as light began to filter through the trees and light up parts of the pond. she heaved a sigh. she wasn't entirely ruffled over the emberclan cats sleeping amongst her clanmates, but there was still the sense of unease around cats who she couldn't entirely trust. her swirling thoughts plagued her throughout the night and slipping out of camp for a walk was the only way she could get rid of the restless energy. even still as she sat at the edge of the water, the tip of her tail twitched back and forth.

"I suppose I best be getting back to camp," she muttered to herself. patrols would be starting soon and she didn't want to fathom slighting oakpool by not being available. the crack of a twig behind her had her ears twitching and her head snapped around, gaze scanning the tree line. her eyes landed on a squirrel foraging on the ground. how it didn't sense the danger near was beyond her, but maybe coming back with some prey would be a more reasonable excuse for her escapades than troubling thoughts. the she-cat crouched low to the ground, somewhat cursing her fur color for making her stick out against the landscape. it was the thought she had every time she went hunting, however, it never seemed that big of a factor in the grand scheme of things.

stalking forward slowly, only ever removing her eyes from her target to make sure her paws didn't disturb anything, honeyfern crept closer and closer. once within range, she tensed. her body went still for a second, then with a powerful leap, she launched herself at the squirrel. gripping it was her claws, honeyfern was quick to grab ahold of the prey with her jaws. her heart pounded with the success of the hunt. satisfied with herself, squirrel dangling from her maw, she made the short journey back to camp. making brief eye contact with the guards outside the entrance, she traipsed into camp and made way towards the fresh-kill pile. dropping the squirrel, she raised her head and scanned the camp, seeing that others were beginning to awaken and make their way out to the clearing. perfect timing she thought.

XXXKindlepaw returned the smile, though it didn't reach her eyes. It'd been a while since a genuine smile made it's way to her face. "I just... Couldn't sleep any more," she admitted, her gaze flickering to the various herbs and supplies that they had. It was all so similar but so... Different? The herbs were the same, the way of healing was the same, but there were some discrepancies. Willowshade had such a particular way of organizing her herbs that she had taught to Kindlepaw that it was so strange to see herbs in the wr- no, different places. Her ears twitched at the sound of another voice behind her, and she turned to see the Moonlitclan leader behind her. When had he followed her? She should have noticed! Surprise and anxiety flickered in her eyes, but she tried to compose herself. "H-hello, Falconstar," she greeted, inwardly cursing herself at stuttering. Kindlepaw felt her anxiety prick under her fur being between the two Moonlitclan cats. Emberclan was in their home and it was challenging to the young cat not to feel like an outsider, an intruder even, in their territory. She listened as Blazingpaw spoke then watched him go to retrieve his mentor. Kindlepaw swallowed her nerves and spoke, "is there... Anything I could help you with while we wait for them to come back, Falconstar?"

XXXOwlstrike lay in his nest with a disgruntled expression etched across his grizzled face. He sat up, his older bones starting to ache, and began to groom his pelt. The den walls seemed to close in on him, and the scent of unfamiliar cats lingered in the air like an unwelcome intruder. Blasted intruders, the tom thought, still stuck on there being strangers in the camp.
The presence of these... Emberclan cats... In their territory, their camp even! It stirred a storm of discontent within the old tom. The once peaceful seclusion of his clan had been disrupted, and he couldn't shake the irritation that festered within him. What if this was all a ruse? What if they had backup, the rest of their supposed lost clan, coming to attack Moonlitclan? They had gone seasons unmarred by the tribulations of other cats and he didn't want that to start now.
With a groan, Owlstrike fully got out of his nest, his joints protesting the movement. He cast a disdainful glance toward the area where the Emberclan cats had taken refuge. He'd no part in helping build the den. Owlstrike had never been one for change, and the sudden upheaval of his peaceful routine fueled his discontent. It just felt like something was about to let loose on their territory.

Fennelglow blinked. As in, she consciously made the effort to close her eyelids, the motion accompanied by the slightest burning sensation ─ all thanks to the dry eyes that came from a sleepless day. It was uncommon for her to forgo rest, but the ever-growing buzz of thoughts in her head was simply too loud for even a short nap. After the Emberclan cats had arrived on Moonlitclan territory, she had been in non-stop motion. Despite Kindlepaw being a relatively useful addition to the medicine cat team, she and Blazingpaw were swamped with treating tiny injuries, restocking herbs, sorting those same herbs and overall, demonstrating a level of care that Moonlitclan could be proud of. The newcomers had settled in, but things had hardly settled down. Plus, right as they were about to leave, and everything was going to return somewhat to normal, Starclan had to go and send them a prophecy. As much as she liked her job, it was times like these where she really questioned why she couldn't have chosen a blissfully ignorant life as a plain old warrior.

The faint call of her apprentice brought Fennelglow to her feet. She stretched her limbs with a yawn, and slowly dragged herself over to the den entrance, where Blazingpaw stood. "Right here, dear," she greeted him with a small smile. "Sorry to make you come get me. Come now, let's go see what they need." With a swish of her tail, she padded out into the moonlight. She dipped her head respectfully to Falconstar and nodded at Kindlepaw. "So, how can I help you two?"

Spiderfang rolled onto his side, yawning so wide he thought he might strain his jaw. He stared blankly at the dim insides of the warrior den, listening to the faint footsteps of the early birds who were already awake, as well as the snores of those sleeping in. He fought this battle every night ─ should he get up and be a responsible member of the clan, or could he squeeze out just a little bit more of rest? Right now, it was looking like the latter would win. It wasn't as if he had any apprentices to worry about. And as long as he wasn't the last to get up, no one would even notice, right? He huffed happily to himself, allowing himself to drift back into a shallow sleep.

    Cinderpaw
    ||Tom|16M|Emberclan - β€œThe Angry”|Tags;; Ravensight [mentions]||
The darkness used to be comforting. The darkness of the apprentice den used to be so warm and comforting after a day full of training. The kind of comfort that used to beckon sleep, the kind of comfort that used to wrap up the young Tom like a blanket. But the kind of darkness in this makeshift den was anything but comforting. This wasn’t the apprentice den he grew to love. This was a reminder of the shell that was his clan, a reminder of what they had all lost. What he had lost.

Cinderpaw grit his teeth together as he blinked his eyes open. What little sleep he had finally succumbed too quickly left his body, lifting his head to glance around at the cats who were still in the little den. His gaze lands on Ravensight, and for a moment - a fleeting moment - he considers moving closer to the Tom. For some reason, he felt comfort in the warriors presence. Maybe it was the fact that he lost his parents and Ravensight had always acted like a second father figure to him.

The apprentice stood for a moment, but only to adjust his laying position. He quickly laid back down in his nest, being careful not to disturb the other cats around him. It was easy to tell that sleep would not find him again, the light from the sunrise was slowly spilling into the den. His gaze stayed rested on Ravensight as his presence was keeping him somewhat calmer, a little less angry. He could also benefit from calming the storm that was his temper.

    Oakpool
    ||Molly|28M|Moonlitclan - Deputy|Tags;; Birdsong, Falconstar [mentions]||
A soft purr rumbled in Oakpool’s chest as Birdsong spoke, her gaze drifting from her friend’s to watch Falconstar move to the medicine cat’s den. Curiosity stirred in her chest slightly as she watched for a heartbeat more, her tail twitching as anxiety settled on her shoulders. It wasn’t that Falconstar made her nervous, he didn’t - or not that she would admit to. She was just noticeably more observant of his movements lately with the displaced cats still residing within their borders.

As the leader disappeared from view, the she-cat shook her thoughts from her head and focused once more on her friend that lay next to her. It took her a moment to register what Birdsong had said, momentarily feeling bad for losing focus on their conversation. Things had just been so busy and kind of stressful lately. Which wasn’t something she liked to put on display, she didn’t like the clan to know something was bothering her. Maybe she was, admittedly, not the best at sharing her emotions when they were accompanied with even a sliver of shame.

β€œI’m sorry,” she spoke quietly, perhaps even a little shyly, her ear twitching with nerve. β€œI slept alright, but I think everyone could benefit from a little bit of a sounder sleep right now.” she replied, her gaze falling down to her prey before finding Birdsong’s gaze again. β€œI was thinking of joining either the border patrol or the hunting patrol today. I think that I could use a bit of a run.” she replied, a smile finding it’s way to her face once more. A moment of fresh air away from the clan, and away from their guests could do her some good. Give her some room to breathe and think clearly. However, of course, she would need to check in with Falconstar first and see if there was anything he needed from her. She was sure he also had a lot on his shoulders right now, which she was hoping to help with.

    Briarkit
    ||Molly|3M|Moonlitclan - Kit|Tags;; Swiftcreek||
The small kit slept soundly, tucked into her mothers pelt. There was not much that a kit needed to worry about, the young she-cat was completely separated from any drama or worry that surrounded the clan at the time. Was she aware of the strangers that were residing within their camp walls? No. Was she aware that there were suddenly cats that were stinky compared to the smells of her usual clanmates? Yes. But she would never voice that out loud, her mother would scold her for being rude.

Briarkit shifted slightly in her sleep before burying her face once more into her mother’s side. The warmth of Swiftcreek’s pelt blanketing her in comfort before sleep washed over her once more.

01 snow ─ 01 adder

Postby FNAF » Tue Jan 16, 2024 3:36 pm

    ✦ ─ snowbriar. 30m . moonlitclan warrior . tags; none [open]

Another night's rest, and another dreamless sleep.

The quiet rustling in the warriors' den was the first sensation to wake Snowbriar, and the first indication that it was time to get up. The she-cat wasn't one for sleeping heavily, or sleeping very long at all; she yawned, stretched out her paws, opened her sightless eyes, and was already up on her paws. It was a sort of ritual, just like any other morning - something to give some rhythm and structure to her days. With a gentle dip of her head, the she-cat used her whiskers for guidance to maneuver her way out of the den, being careful not to step on or wake any of her peacefully sleeping clanmates.

As much as the feeling of her clanmates' warm bodies against her own was a comforting one, being outside of the den was much more freeing. No more of the stuffiness of the den, but a gentle breeze, and the scent of the crisp leaf-fall air around her. Snowbriar took a few steps away from the warriors' den and sat down, curling her tail around her white paws and pointing her nose up to the sky. It felt calm and peaceful; her mind was clear, and Snowbriar felt ready for another day ahead of her, hoping it would be more interesting than the last. After a moment, she closed her eyes, focusing on all of the tiniest sensations and scents around her; the gentle sounds of movement of her clanmates waking up, faint sounds of chatter within a den nearby, and of course… the new scent of EmberClan.
Snowbriar's fur bristled for a moment, but she kept still, breathing calmly to relax again. Of course, she knew of the EmberClan cats' presence within the camp - it was hard to have a conversation with a clanmate the past few days without that being the main topic at hand. Their presence was hard to ignore, even for a cat who couldn’t see them in front of her. While she extended her utmost sympathy towards the cats, Snowbriar knew she couldn’t get distracted once again by feeling the heartache of those around her. With a gentle sigh and shake of her head, Snowbriar uttered a gentle prayer to StarClan for the safety of both her own Clan and those around her, before settling down on her paws, still quietly attempting to acclimate herself to the new scents in the camp once again.

    ✦ ─ adderfrost . 30m . moonlitclan warrior . tags; none [open]

Though he lay in his nest, truthfully, the tom hadn't slept at all. In fact, he hadn't slept at all for days.

Ever since the EmberClan cats found their way into the camp, Adderfrost lay in the warriors' den during the times he was supposed to be asleep - waiting, watching, and listening. Only once the morning arose and he heard those around him awake, did he stand up himself, shaking away the exhaustion of the sleepless nights. Perhaps it was just a gut feeling, or the paranoia induced by his lack of sleep, but he knew this was the day something would happen. With so many days of peace, there was no way it could stay for much longer: it was the calm before the storm. It was obvious all along - these cats were nothing but trouble, and he would not stand for it any longer.
With his grey tail swishing behind him, Adderfrost paraded outside of the den in his usual harsh stride, likely stepping on a few tails and paws in the meantime. His watchfulness wasn't even intended for the protection of the Clan; rather the opposite, in fact. The readiness of Falconstar to accept these intruders was enough to get his fur bristling and his claws kneading into the ground below him. Did the leader not have any sense - nor did anyone else in his Clan? Even if a select few of his clanmates struck disapproving glances towards the EmberClan cats or went out of their way to avoid them, it was still clear they conformed to the leader’s wishes, not daring to actually stand up to the intruders. With a light frustrated shake of his head, Adderfrost marched towards his usual spot, a secluded corner of the camp where he had a clear view of the den the EmberClan cats were staying in a few lengths opposite of him. Even if nobody in his Clan believed it, Adderfrost knew he had to prove them wrong. He would sit, and watch, and wait. And so, with as much focus as he could muster after yet another night of no sleep, he sat unmoving in the shadows with his piercing gaze settled on the EmberClan den. Another day of waiting for something to happen.

xxxxxsootstar was up long before the sun began rising.
xxxxxactually, she wasn't sure how long she had been awake. sleep was evading her entirely, it seemed; her mind constantly mimicking and replaying the screams of terror from what her clan used to be. even though the clan was safe now, sootstar couldn't find any semblance of solace in the makeshift den that moonlitclan provided for them. she was appreciative of the clan, of falconstar, for allowing them to stay- but there were one too many eyes on her at all times, uneasy eyes. she trusted they wouldn't attack, not unsolicited. but, still, the anxiety tickled her throat from the pit of her stomach and she found herself unable to rest comfortably.
xxxxxher skin rippled, fast waves down her back. her eyes were half open, and she was entirely fatigued; but she remained as alert as her mind allowed. dozens of things swarmed her mind, but not a single thing entered.
xxxxxit was only when one of her remaining clanmates had exited the den that she turned her head from the endless gaze in front of her, eyes falling on kindlepaw as she traversed away from their small den. she stayed quiet as kindlepaw made her way to the medicine cat den of moonlitclan. her eyes followed, just to make sure that nothing may escalate at such early hours of the day, before her head rotated again and she peered ahead of her.
xxxxxafter a moment, sootstar slowly turned around and peered over her shoulder, her exhausted eyes falling on what remained of her clan in the den. the only one missing was kindlepaw, with birchpaw rousing to his feet with quiet and thoughtful footsteps. she huffed lightly through her nose, gazing directly at him for a moment before she offered a very silent and still, "be careful," rather than words to get him to remain within her sight. she couldn't keep them contained to the small den forever, she knew- as much as she wanted to so that she could protect them, keep them all safe- it just wasn't possible. they were safe here.
    xxxxxsafe.
xxxxxsuch a foreign concept to her now.
xxxxxand with the looming prophecy given to the medicine cats, she didn't know if it was ever going to become familiar to her again.
xxxxxslowly, with slightly aching muscles, sootstar lowered herself to the ground and tucked her feet close to each other, tail covering her paws delicately as she continued to peer out into the clearing. and, again, her thoughts continued to whirl around each other, but the sounds of the world around her became nothing but fuzzy static.
