As Diesel, Mystic and Reya reached the bottom of the mountain Diesel and Mystic knew instantly that something was wrong. There was way too much activity in the pack for so early in the morning. Diesel slowed to a jog and looked around and Gia raced in front of him.
“Gia!” Diesel called. Gia slid to a stop, her head whipping around in her direction.
“Where have you been? Black has been looking all over the place for you.”
“What is going on?”
“Hell Hounds. They have Inga.” She cast an annoyed glance at Reya. “Who is that?”
“Long story, what do you mean they have Inga?”
“She was getting water and Kane and one of his pack mates attacked her. They want to talk to Black and Nitro. Black wants all of the fighters close by and is having everyone else go in the big cave Mystic has been staying in. He is mad that he can’t find you. Come on. Leave…whoever that is with Mystic and lets go.”
“I’m coming too.” Mystic blurted out. Diesel and Gia both answered at the same time.
“No you’re not.” Mystic’s ears drooped.
“You aren’t trained yet. You’ll get yourself killed.”
“But…Inga is my friend.”
“I know, so let us help her.” Diesel said softly and rubbed his head on her shoulder. “Take Reya to the cave.”
Mystic sighed, then nodded and Diesel and Gia ran off.
“Why take Inga?” Diesel asked as they raced towards the meadow.
“I don’t know, she was there?”
They ran the rest of the way in uncomfortable silence. Black was pacing the edge of the clearing and stopped short when he saw Diesel.
“And just where have you been? With City Girl I suppose?” he snarled.
“It doesn’t matter, I’m here now. What’s going on?”
“Kane and
Axe have Inga. They want something, I don’t know what. They’ll be here in a few minutes to talk to me and Nitro. I want the rest of you standing by incase things get ugly. You know how violent Axe can be, and they are twice our size and might have their pack waiting.”
Diesel nodded. Kane was the leader of the Hell Hounds, but Axe was by far the most violent. He was a deep brown wolf with white stripes a long his back and a white marking on his face that looked like a skull mask. He had a dark brown axe shaped mark on his shoulder that he had been named for. He had a reputation for killing just for the fun of it and usually tortured his prey/victim. Black was about to say something else when Nitro snarled, deep in his throat.
They turned to see Kane and Axe walking across the clearing, Axe had Inga by the back of her neck. She was walking on her own, but he was tall enough that he could keep his mouth firmly clamped around her neck and still walk. Nitro and Black walked into the clearing and met the Hell Hounds half way.
“Kane.” Nitro growled, dipping his head slightly.
“Nitro, Black. Nice to see you.”
“What do you want?” Black snarled, his teeth showing.
“Oh Black, you’re always in such a hurry. You might want to be careful. People get hurt when Axe gets irritated.” Axe growled softly and bit down harder on Inga’s neck. She whimpered, then snarled.
“Let me go you-” She was cut short as he bit down even harder and she yelped, then was silent. Nitro growled, but didn’t move.
“You have something to say Kane? You have our attention.”
“Yes, I do. Your pack continues to grow. Prey is harder and harder to find, and you seem to find most of it due to your large numbers. I’m afraid we can no longer exist peacefully so close to each other. We feel that the pack needs to be…weeded so to speak. Get rid of a few of your members.”
“They aren’t prey Kane, I am not casting out my pack members so you can hunt them.”
“They can join us. I’d be happy to take that pretty blue dog first. She’s feisty and would fit right in with us.”
“None of our pack wants to join you Kane.”
“Oh, I’m afraid they don’t have a choice. You see, I get what I want, or we start hunting all of you. You know how that will end Nitro. Badly. I’m reasonable. I can come to an agreement. You give me the blue dog, I will let this one go. I only really want the one anyways. After that, you leave us a kill in the meadow, once a week, and we will leave you alone.”
“A kill twice a week, you let Inga go and Mystic stays with us.” Nitro countered.
Kane tilted his head at Nitro, then turned his attention to Black.
“Its because of you that he has a soft spot for the blue dog. He knows you like her. However, you and I have never gotten along, have we Black?”
Black’s only response was a deep snarl.
“So Kane, do we have a deal?” Kane slowly turned his attention to Nitro and pulled his lips back in a snarl.
“No. The blue dog, Mystic you called her, has to be part of the deal. So what is it Nitro? One member for the rest of your packs safety.”
Nitro snarled and snapped his teeth at Kane then slowly turned to Black.
“Go get Mystic.”
