My family doesn't have a whole lot of set-in-stone traditions like many others. However, baking desserts has been something my aunt and I have had the joy of doing since my great-grandmother passed away a few years ago. I was lucky enough to not only inherit her many tattered and stained recipe cards but also her amazing skills in the kitchen! One of my favourite days of the holiday season is the day before Christmas Eve and Christmas Eve day as they are spent at my aunt's house baking almost anything you can think of! Normally, we start with handmade pie crusts so the kitchen and ourselves get covered in flour! One of my favourite recipes to make is my great-grandmother's pecan pie! When I first started learning to bake with her in the kitche, pecan pie was the very first thing she taught me so it brings back lovely memories of childhood! And, of course, makes the entire house smell amazing!
