me, who assigns all of my sillies a song/song lyrics when i post them on my archive: >:]shivering-sea: never love an anchor by the crane wives — the calm vibe of the song overall fits their generally demeanor very well! the lyrics, for them, represent their guilt and the way they seem themself for having left their family. even though they did it to create hsiin’al and have provided a safe space for so many chrii who needed it, they still feel bad. their family doesn’t begrudge them for it, but they don’t know that. also, the boat metaphors work very well, since they snuck onto a boat to cross the ocean to follow the moth that guided them to form hsiin’al.
firefly-flitter: willow by taylor swift— this song describes firefly-flitter’s intense loyalty and dedication, especially to her partner shivering-sea. she truly had no idea what they were doing or how anything would end up when she first met them, but she just had a feeling to trust them. she’s so glad she did, and she tells them often that they and hsiin’al are the best things to happen to her. shivering-sea’s ramblings are still very confusing to her, but she’d follow them to the ends of the planet if they asked her to.
tracking-wolf: the hand that feeds by the crane wives — tracking-wolf has been, since she escaped the cult from her childhood, a very independent and free-thinking chrii. she refuses to allow anyone to have control over her actions, especially not with manipulation or bribery. having learned from her past, of chrii caught up in a lie and losing themselves for it… well, she would rather refuse help and be stuck in a hard situation than accept it and lose control over her choices.
little-pigeon: dog days are over by florence + the machine— this song reflects little-pigeon’s defensive mindset really well. she has a hard time trusting happiness when it comes to her, and as a result, she often ends up running from it or trying to push it to find how easily it will end— she doesn’t believe that she won’t end up ruining it, and this lack of trust
is often what ends up being the thing to ruin what happiness and goodness she has.
rattlesnake-fangs: the stranger at my door by brandi carlile— on top of the fire imagery that perfectly fits with her powers, rattlesnake-fangs could be seen as the “firewatcher’s daughter” in the song. at least, that’s how she sees herself. she often thinks of everything she’s done as being selfish, and her view of herself and especially her powers is rather negative. the line, “but nothing scares me more/than the stranger at my door/who i fail to give shelter, time, and worth” represents her relationship to herself very well.
jade-feathers: primadonna girl by MARINA — quite self-explanatory… though he isn’t a girl, jade-feathers is quite the primadonna who loves to be as flashy as possible. all eyes must be on him, at all times. his self-awareness is also pretty poor…
allium-gaze: the moss by cosmo sheldrake— this song tells a lot of stories, just like allium-gaze does! he’s very much a daydreamer who gets distracted thinking of tales and myths. he loves telling stories to the others in the group.
