ᴀʀᴄ 𝟹
⭐ The new monk finds a common tongue with Rainstorm. He tells one tale of heroic deeds from his youth after another. They are terrifying and graphic and scare all the kits. Raimstorm wants to be just like him when he grows old.
⭐ Firepaw was absolutely terrified by his experience, at least until he returned to camp. Eveyone wanted to hear his terrifying tale and thought he was the coolest cat for surviving such a dreadful situation. He started to enjoy telling the story and it evolved from a simple slip into a stream into being pulled underwater by a sea serpent and fighting it off with his bare paws. He has never been more hyped to become a warrior, somewhat starting to belive he is cool and brave.
⭐ The situation had opposite effect on Northernpaw. After losing her mother, the sight of her father and brother nearly dying leaves her shaken and anxious.

every cat has a chill in their bones, and not the kind that comes with the weather. due to some divine intervention, vultureclaw has spread his mystery illness among the clan. wolverinestar, still in the medicine den, is really struggling to survive. hailthroat is keeping elkkit and heronkit in the nursery in order to keep them healthy. mistkit and darkkit are not so lucky. wolverinestar is doing her very best to make sure they're fed and happy. mistkit is having trouble finding the belly and darkkit is refusing to eat. one morning, pumpkinseed is awoken by a blood-curdling scream. he rushes out to the main area where the leader and her kits are resting. wolverinestar is frantically licking darkkit, muttering pleas and begging her son to wake up. when she looks at pumpkinseed, her eyes are large, frantic, wet, and glassy. "he won't wake up." she says softly. pumpkinseed sighs and confirms that darkkit has succumbed to his illness. the family is devastated, but this isn't the only thing that's wrong. pumpkinseed runs a test and says that mistkit is blind. she has had a scorching fever for several days and the part of her brain that allows vision has likely been damaged too much. wolverinestar doesn't care, as long as she doesn't lose another kit. pumpkinseed promises to keep an extra close eye on her and keep her temperature down. wolverinestar secretly gives mistkit her rations of water since she really wants her daughter to survive. this won't bode well for the leader...

while the disease is running rampant, other injuries still occur. cricketfur and honeysplash both rest in their nests in the warrior's den. everyone is super excited because honeysplash is the first cat born into firclan to become a warrior!!! wow shes so cool. creekpaw is a little jealous, but knows that his turn is soon. honeysplash retrieved her pebble in like. 2 seconds, so she got her namesake from that. anyways, cricketfur and honeysplash are j chillin' and gossiping about life when juncostalk approaches with a mouse. he drops it at cricketfur's paws and just kinda stares at her. she tilts her head in confusion and he immediately starts rambling about how she's hurt and not allowed to move so he got her food and how she doesn't need to thank him he's just doing his warrior duties. cricket is like. uhuh :) sure ;). and junco blushes so hard he needs to shuffle away in embarrassment before she says anything else. honeysplash and cricketfur giggle light-heartedly. honey says that he's totally in love with her and she should pursue it. cricket shrugs as she takes a bite and then pushes the mouse to honey to share. she admits that she likes him, but she's scared of commitment and she enjoys being single. honey says that with the right cat, she won't be afraid. cricket guesses that's true and she decides to give it a chance. honey sighs and wishes she could find love. cricket warmly smiles and tells her not to worry, she has so much life ahead of her. she'll find someone. they eat their mouse and watch the sunset as the background ambience of clanmates coughing continues.

Laika trotted alongside the rocky path to Everflame’s cave. Technically, it is the elder’s cave, but Everflame was the only elder though Dingo had practically taken up residence there himself. Nyx had taken him off of daily patrols ever since Rachmaninoff’s body recovery was officially unsuccessful to give Dingo time to grieve and collect himself. Since Laika, Strelka, and Belka were now big enough to carry new moss and feathers to line their nests in exchange for stories.
Laika laid down her mouthful of moss in the middle of the cavern, ready to dole out. “Belka is coming, I think he’s dragging a hare as big as he is!” She was used to making the first strings of conversation; Dingo tended not to say much and Everflame only spoke when it tickled her fancy. “Strelka is stuck helping mother and Mudslide redo the nursery nests. Piedpiper and Muffin might be thinking about finding a donor for starting their own family…but you didn’t hear it from me,” Laika continued to chatter on sorting the moss into two piles, “nothing is confirmed yet, and Mudslide thinks she’s being quiet, but I spend most of my naps just listening to them gossip.” Laika paused, casting a guilty look towards Dingo. She didn’t think about the subject possibly bringing up painful memories for the tom before she mindlessly spoke.
Dingo scraped one of Laika’s moss piles towards him and sorted out stiff and stale pieces to replace. “Good for them,” He cast a pointed look towards the awkward kitten, “I’m not some stick of dynamite you have to trod carefully around, you’re fine Laika.”
Everflame huffed from their spot in the sun. Since the elder’s cave was closer to the top of the ridge, a couple missing rocks along the top let in beams of light during the warmer seasons, and the trappers were in charge of covering the openings up with clay for the colder seasons. Everflame shifted to let their other side soak up the rays as they fixed Dingo with a firm stare. “You say that and yet you are up here and let Dune worry her fur off about you!”
Dingo looked at the ground bashfully, “I prefer the quiet until everyone stops looking at me with pity.”
“Then stop being pitiful and at least give Rapier the mentor he deserves. Get your mind engaged and working for some time today.” Everflame complained yet it still retained a soothing undertone. “And talk to your sister, she still sees you as her little brother. So act like it and let her help you.”
Laika was finished redoing Everflame’s nest and was trying to appear as small as possible, not wanting to get sucked into this conversation.
Dingo stood silent for a few moments before letting out a long sigh, “I suppose I owe it to Rapier and Dune…” While exiting the cave, he almost tripped over Belka who finally managed the hare all by himself. It really was as big as him.
“Finally, I can maybe sleep through the entire night without being awoken by snoring,” Everflame sniffed at the hare before taking a large bite, “Great find, Belka, it’s very fresh.”
“You said you would tell us about hunting deer when you were younger!” Belka half-heartedly licked a few stray chest hairs down before saying what he was really here for. His favorite part of the day was any story Everflame decided to share with them. Laika also liked these stories though she did wonder how much was straight from memory and how much was augmented by Everflame’s imagination.
“Wouldn’t Strelka like to hear this one too?” Everflame tilted their head, and Belka was off like the hare he just dragged in, bounding along to the nursery to drag his sister back. Everflame turned their attention to the last cat left with her, Laika. “ You’re a bit more steady-minded,” They observed with amusement glinting in their eyes. “I see you hanging around different parts of camp, just watching and waiting. Waiting for what?”
Did it kind of unnerve Laika that Everflame had been keeping tabs on her? She never got any sinister vibes from the cat but she could never really figure out any solid motives Everflame acted on either. It was just like one day they were suddenly a part of Earthfall, and a part that wasn’t ever extremely noticed of Earthfall to be honest. Sure, elders could entertain kittens and trappers when everyone had the free time, but between medical treatments, hunting, patrolling, and training, most cats would be too busy to pay Everflame any mind.
“I guess I like to know what is going on, even if I can’t leave the camp or do anything particularly useful. I know Scimitar’s shoulder healed funky after pushing himself too much. I know Nickel is quite taken by the newest addition to Earthfall, Dreamwatcher, even though rumor has it that he might be expecting kittens with some non-ravine molly. I know Fleet and Ripley became mates but are hoping to be mentors soon, so they’ve put off starting a family. I know Marlon and Nyx are finding a different molly to surrogate a litter of their kittens.”
Everflame grinned, “I wouldn’t say you’re not useful. Look at all the information you’ve gathered just by listening, and who would think that a scrawny little kitten would be a threat?”
Laika was taken aback, “I’m not a threat!”
“Information is powerful, child,” Everflame tutted, “Sure, you think you just know some idle gossip, which it very well might just be that, but you don’t know who would do something drastic to make sure their gossip stays unsaid.”
Laika backed up a couple steps, “Are…you threatening me?”
Everflame scoffed, “Of course not, child. I have lived a full life and was trying to bestow a bit of knowledge on the one cat who might be able to take it to heart.” They leaned in close, nose-to-nose, “Keep all of your cards close to your chest, child, not everyone has to know how much you already know. Feigning ignorance, while a hit to pride, may be the smartest action to take.” They straightened up, skillfully plucking a crawling tick off their flank as Strelka and Belka burst in. “Ready for a tale of taking down a herd of deer?” Their voice immediately changed from its serious tone to the usual melodic air.
“Yes!” Belka took no time in rushing forward and sitting directly in front of Everflame, eager to listen.
The mollies hung back for a moment, Laika mind reeling with unraveling what was just said to her. “You alright?” Strelka nudged her sister, “What were you two talking about?”
“Oh, nothing important,” Laika shrugged, joining Belka for the story. It wasn’t really a lie but she still felt guilty, especially after hearing how worried Dune was for Dingo. Laika went through the regular motions for the rest of the day with her thoughts still picking apart everything Everflame said.

Her audible wince caught the attention of everyone, much to her embarrassment, and Salmonbubble remarked that a dental visit was definitely needed. | Bat requires one moon of rest, x1 feverfew, and x1 celandine.

xx↳ Ibisgrowl hadn't eaten since the evening before and was deeply regretting it as the hollow ache in their belly continued to make itself known to them. They knew they needed to contribute to the hunt before feeding themself, but it was so difficult to focus at the moment. They stalked through the dark underbrush, praying to find something easy, and felt as if their prayers were answered in the form of a writhing, large vole.

Ibisgrowl pounced and killed it easily enough, ignoring the warning signs of tainted prey - its sickly smell not raising concerns as the supple flesh and prey-blood Ibisgrowl felt flow their mouth distracted them. Giving in to temptation, Ibisgrowl decided to feast on the vole right then and there; the consequences returning in the form of horrific pain in their gut after they returned home, food poisoning nearly claiming them as their next victim had it not been for the medics' quick intervention to save their life. | Requires two moons of rest, x1 parsley, x1 borage, and x1 thyme.

Elmbranch and the others shared unsure looks, trying to persuade the white-and-yellow cat to come home with them. It'd been a particularly hot day and they didn't want to risk anyone developing heat exhaustion. Sparrowsmoke rolled his eyes, assuring everyone that he'd be careful and eventually gained the patrol leader's approval. With a grin, one that no one knew would be Sparrowsmoke's last, the tom said that he'd be home soon.

Tragically, however, he succumbed to severe heat stroke after straying too far from ChaosClan's common hunting grounds and lost his way in an open field...

↪ Silverstar's patrol encountered a elderly cat heading back to what the ChaosClan cats assumed was their shelter, made up of a clump of green fronds with wildflowers weaved around the entrance. They seemed listless, thick tail dragging on the forest floor, their paws caked with mud. Silverstar called out to them out of concern, a haunting look of grief stuck on the elder's face as they turned to look back at the leader. They cried out saying they wanted to be left alone - they just buried their mate all by themself and had no more energy to endure any kind of harassment. Silverstar ensured the cat that he meant no harm, and the elder paused, looking back at their nest for a long time before they padded back to the patrol.

Perhaps out of a need to talk to someone they opened up to the cats about they and their mate's love story; they'd been together since they were adolescents, traveling the world for as long as they possibly could and turning their dens into colorful art pieces with the many wildflowers their mate would pick up during their travels to weave into each crook and cranny. With a sniffle, the elder vulnerably whispered that they didn't want to be alone, and Silverstar assured them they wouldn't be. | ChaosClan took in a caretaker!

xx↳ Ward's patrol decided that it'd be safer for them to leave the riverside as the storm picked up and the stream threatened to flood, water pooling just over their feet. Ward had no protests about leaving, his face screwed up in a grimace as the rain made his thick fur feel uncomfortably heavy on his skin. He watched patiently as Conner gathered everyone up, turning to take one last look at the rushing river before he saw something that made his heart stop. Was that... a cat, flowing down the river? Thick gray clouds darkened his vision and the spraying mist didn't help, but Ward was almost certain someone needed help.

His heartbeat quickened as he saw the presumed cat bob under water and out of view, and without thinking, he called out to Conner that someone was drowning before racing after the figure. Ward flinched as he felt water spray across his face, squinting against the pelting rain, but he finally caught up with the drowning cat and leapt into the river after them - his last heroic act. Once the storm subsided and a search-and-rescue party was sent out, they found Ward's body washed up on shore, though there weren't signs of another cat alongside him.

Icysun's sensitive, thin fur made her far more susceptible to heat exhaustion than her clowder-mates, so she'd been feeling tired early into the hunting patrol. She didn't want to prematurely end the hunt in case anyone grew too concerned for her well-being, so she opted to keep quiet about her discomfort and burning skin, but of course she could only keep her condition hidden for so long before she collapsed in a tired, weakened heap. Bacup quickly ordered for the other cats to shield her from the heat and find some soaked moss to drape on top of her body, cooling her down before she was helped back to camp for further treatment. | Requires two moons of rest, x1 sorrel, and x2 dried oak leaves.

Training; Hazelpaw learned agility!
Hazelpaw had the grand misfortune on stepping right onto a beehive carefully hidden in grassy soil, getting stung by many angry buzzing beasts as a result. Luckily her stings were minor and treated quickly, but she was left very sore. | Requires one moon of rest.

Heartpaw, Gingerpaw, Patchpaw, Newpaw, Northernpaw, Birdpaw, and Firepaw learned defense!
Newpaw overworked himself during his defense training and developed heat exhaustion, thankfully only needing some rest; seeing one of her littermates in the sylph's den so soon after Firepaw did nothing to remedy Northernpaw's quickly developing anxiety, though... | New requires one moon of rest.
Birdpaw couldn't stop herself from constantly itching at her pelt, feeling as something was crawling all over her skin. It turns out she wasn't far off the mark when she a denmate to part her fur and see if there were burrs lodged somewhere, only to become dreadfully embarrassed when they exclaimed she was infested with fleas! | | New requires one moon of rest and x2 mouse bile.

Territory
Reefclan resides on a rocky beach surrounded by mountains and small forests. The ocean breeze keeps the weather cooler and the cats are excellent swimmers. There is a colorful coral reef in the waters is untouched by two-legs. They are far from any two-legs and rarely see any.

Camp
The clan resides in a cave system that over looks the ocean. They are skilled climbers and skilled swimmers. The camp often feels the ocean spray so tend to stay inside the caves unless going out for patrols or other matters.

Culture
Reefclan cats are very isolated from others so they tend to be shy towards new cats. This doesn't mean they're hostile though. They often collect seashells and give precious shells to those they care about. They also like to adorn their pelts with feathers and flowers they find on patrols. During warm months, it isn't uncommon to find the cats swimming in the ocean for fun.

season: greenleaf / summer
the territories are in full bloom during the hottest time of the year. prey is bountiful during
this time of the year, and herbs can be found in abundance. kittings will be handled smoothly,
and cats are still around who might be in need of a new home. however, predators are also
fond of the warm weather, and cats who overwork themselves may find themselves suffering
from dehydration and exhaustion.
