whats a reasonable goal to start off with, and is there any threads i should know about on how to start hoarding pets?

I typically start with a goal of 20, which is a full 1 page worth of pets, personally. other popular numbers are 50, 100, 10, or even unlimited!

honestly I'd just suggest putting them on your wishlist and putting feelers out for what you're looking for. put them in your trade thread (if you have one), check out other active people's threads, if you want you can try the free adopts forum. people sometimes do gift exchanges, but I can't say much about them since I haven't had the time before. ngl I sometimes use snaplinks on a chunk of the list of "people online" at the bottom of the forums and do a quick scan if anyone has one (or more) for trade. ^^

hoarding is really whatever you want to make it to be, there's not really any rules! (well like, as long as you don't like. ninja trade newbies out of their dec 18th pets or anything, which I don't think is gonna be an issue with these two :p)

OH my gosh! We got another frog litter!! I am so excited! My frog hoard is already nearing 7k but I am going to ramp it up with those little guys because they are too cute!!

Just reached 300 on my Queer Pride hoard!

I have also come to a complete dead stop for my Starlight Warrior hoard. It's either I finally come across one but it's oddly impossible to trade for or I just don't see them anymore haha. But the holidays have been good to my other ones, especially being apart of the Holibombers.

❥And I am starting a new hoard for this otter outcome - I am absolutely in love with the floof of its coat, the color, and the striking green eyes. I'm undecided on a name for it yet. There is something on the tip of my tongue they are giving me the vibe of - but I cannot place it for the life of me. I'm very excited to start though, with an ambitious goal of 100. Is it weird to say a design speaks to me? It's just like sometimes you see a design and are like: yes. That.

this is my first time posting on this new thread but I had a question for the hoarders of more valuable/in demand pets.

do y'all ever trade them?

I currently have a galaxy dog hoard with 15 dogs, but I've been feeling the need to spruce up my pet collection, and have often found myself wanting to trade some of them off but feeling hesitant to do it. especially since they're harder to get than my less valuable hoards.

I guess a part of me thinks "ugh but you got your hoard this far, don't trade them off" while the other thinks "what difference would trading one or two make?"

I'm a bit torn and would love to hear what other users do c:

I had this situation w/my store cheetah sets and a couple other of my older in-demand store pet hoards. Honestly I kind of just looked at my hoards of them and went, "How many of these can I keep and still make myself happy with the hoard?" So I cut them from 50 to an even 20 each and used the rest as fodder. And I've been super-happy with that choice!

It's really all about what would be a satisfying number to you personally imo. Are you planning to get more later to add to that hoard? If yes, then I wouldn't trade them now because it would probably frustrate you and be pointless in the long run. If you are happy with where it's at and don't plan to add more, maybe consider if 10 or something would still be satisfying for you.

i didn’t think i’d ever update on this hoard again but a week and a half ago i finished my 1,000 easter 2023 dwarf hamster hoard. i only collected the adults in the litter because i thought it looked more consistent.

you can imagine my surprise that we got THIS as a GUPPS today!

so now i think i might hoard these little guys separately once the demand settles down in the swap thread (but maybe before rarities come out hehe) because i now feel bad that he was excluded :,)
