This is absolutely stunning. The lighting, the mane, the mythical vibe β itβs simply amazing.

Thank you!!! Iβm glad everyone likes the drawing so much!
TheMamba wrote:This is SO pretty! What pen settings did you use? I'd love to try them out, I love the look!
The way I went about drawing this was using a lot of different pen settings (adjusting as needed) but hereβs the general steps I took/what tool I used for them!
I used my IPad + Apple Pen to draw this. Plus mostly just the Pen, Eraser, and Airbrush. (I set all of these to 0 Spacing, keep opacity/line width on for pen pressure, and adjust as needed.)
- Start by drawing a rough sketch (using the pen brush on default settings, only spacing set to 0 and opacity turned on). Once Iβm happy with the look/anatomy of the sketch, I make a second layer underneath to block out the form. I use a light mid-gray for the base color and set the sketch layer to a slightly darker gray. Then merge the layers together.
- Keeping to a grayscale palette: I start carving out the details like working with clay. I have a general idea of the light source, but my focus is more on the texture/details than overall shading. This is the longest process and is mostly done with the Pen tool with a lower set opacity, just color picking the gray as I go and adjusting the shadows of the textures.
- Once this is done, I add colors using the Gradient tool. Just toss a block of color on everything and change the settings to either Overlay, Hard Light, Soft Light, or Vivid Light. (Depends on the colors being used, really just experiment with what looks best!)
- Add deeper shadows using Multiply and brighter highlights using Overlay. Softer shadows/highlights are done with the Airbrush while harder shadows/highlights are made using the Pen brush.
- I like to toss a Noise layer on top of everything near the end. Using the Monochromatic noise and a varying layer setting of Overlay/Soft Light/Hard Light/Vivid Light and dropping the opacity so that it is a subtle addition.
Tbh, if anyone wants a deeper explanation I can draw up a simple tutorial?
