Thank you to everyone working on this discussion. I can't wait to have a Horror guide to reference someday. I'll be waiting patiently until it gets there

I'm super tired, so my sense of.. everything. Is a lil messed up right now. Forgive my weird humor in advance, I cannot be bothered to go back through this a third time, I can barely read my screen. If you laughed or cried or the corner of your mouth twitched or you exhaled through your nose, I succeeded. Have a good night-morning everyone and enjoy my 20 hours with no sleep post.

Ngl, I think it's even more hopeless when your best bet for getting rare pets is "the generosity of the community".
Different outlooks, I guess.
Don't get me wrong: The generosity of the community is hugely important, and I'm not a huge fan of the event pet greed either, I was spending just as much time trying to get a fair swap for my pets as everyone else was. It just happens to be the easiest way to get value on your account when you're starting out, outside of getting stuff for free.
(Also would totally recommend the basic: Trade your pets down by the 3-month/3-year/whatever rule is going on nowadays, until you get the value you need to trade for something better, or until you get the pets you want. And the up-and-coming, "Look for people who are doing auctions of Bulk pets for something valuable" I love those ones.)
I think the fact that newbies have to go scrounge the free pet forums, enter raffles, hopelessly stare at the "Already taken!" icon on a rare pound pet, and a list full of declined trades because they don't know how trading values work, watching their lack of account value and "Pets without a group" waiting for one of those raffles and free pet threads to finally pay off with something useful, sitting out on the CS-Streets holding their little empty soup bowl with a trembling hand being like, "Please sir may I have some more?" like a starving Victorian child, is depressing.
So yeah, profiting off of people's event greed.. Or.. "Go beg on the streets little starving child, maybe somebody will give you their scraps. Here's a C$, don't spend it all in one place! You can do it!" (I think that's kinda condescending..)
I'll take uh.. "Event Greed" for 100 tokens at 3-4 C$ each, Alex.
300 C$ is a Mid-Advent, by the way. And that's if you click 100 banners and only sell your own tokens. Once you have your 300-400 C$, start buying the 2 C$ tokens and sell them for 3 C$. If you buy 100 tokens for 200 C$, sell them for 3 C$, that's a 100 C$ profit. Add that to the 100-200 C$ you had left over from your initial thing and you now have 400-500 C$. Repeat until everyone is scrambling to sell tokens at the end of the event and run away with your profits.
I just personally hate relying on others, especially random raffles and now even things like the Pound have been ruined by it turning into a game of skill for how fast you can click and how much free time you have because bots on discord tell literal thousands of people a minute before it opens every time.(/an entire shaker of salt -from a disabled person who can't click or process that fast. I miss when the discord CS Pound bot(s) didn't exist. Minmaxing in a place that isn't for minmaxing.)
Anyway- I got a lot of the value on my account from being gifted by others, and I actually wish I hadn't. I miss working for trade-ups and doing events and selling tokens or trying to get the most out of my pets. I actively miss the early-game CS grind. I know it isn't like that for everyone, though.
My point is:
If the most successful way of gaining value on your account is other people giving away the value on their account- something is wrong with your website and the way trading works.
Imo, half the purpose of events is to pump a ton of short-lived value into the CS economy, and then it all disappears when the tokens are worth almost nothing anymore and the event pets go for normal trades again. (The other half is cool pet more collect look at number of pet go up watch them grow tiny caveman human brain like spooky theme design smile )
Does anyone actually remember what pets went for nutty values in H'Ween 2022 (outside of banner pets)? Or do they like, genuinely actually remember and I just have a ton of mental issues that make me barely remember the 2023 V-Day Lion fiasco, despite trading an 09r for mine?
What overhypes the pets is that they were just released, one is a little more rare than the others, or looks a little cooler, and then people go bananas.
From my POV:
That PPS Punk Lion is going to be worth like, maybe 1 2020-2025 Rare in a year or two, maybe even just after its rarity tag gets released. You don't need a full collection of pets, especially not as they come out. Wait a moment, look into how rare it actually is (I.E., check around. Make sure it's not actually as rare as people are saying it is.) Then trade for it when it's not being valued a million times higher than it's actually worth for no reason other than "new event pet hype, pps lion omg". And if you get one, trade it away to the people scrambling for one and overpaying out their butt for it. Literally just slap "I have the PPS Lion for trade" on the H'Ween Thread and people jump at the opportunity to offer way too much for it. They're the ones making the decisions to offer that for them.
You have more value than the lion is worth now, congratulations.
Then with your massively increased account value, trade for one when the hype dies down.
I'm not trying to encourage greed, but I am trying to encourage taking advantage of the situations that present themselves. By no means am I going out there and saying, "Offer me like 80 C$ for this lion or no lion for you!" But if somebody decided to plop 80 C$ in my inbox for it, who am I to decline? And why would I accept a worse offer out of multiple in my inbox?
A handful of people clearly started it by willingly offering way too much for it in the first place, and then because it went for that, everyone's like "I don't wanna trade mine unless I get that for it!" Which is kind of dumb. I'm pretty sure the 80 C$ only happened once and then got widespread because someone declined all their trades for the lion saying "Sorry someone offered me 80 C$". They could have just.. not specified, only said they got a better offer. (On top of that the 80 C$ for it was thrown around in the Discussion thread as well, it was a mess.)
I'd just take the best offer ngl. I'm not that passionate about it.
I don't think (before the first person offered way too much for it) anybody was actively just holding onto their lions like, "Oh yeah. I'll only trade my doubles away if people offer me so many rares in overpay. I'm gunna be so rich." (And if they were: Ew. Stop that. Spray bottle emoji.)
Maybe I'm not understanding. It's like 10 AM here and I haven't slept, so that sleep-deprived-depression definitely do hit different. (Hehe, alliteration.)
I'm gunna go sleep so hard after making sure I didn't say a CS no-no word in this book of a post.

@ The post above.
Hi, it's me. I'm the one trying to offer bulk 09s for OMGSRs lol
I actually think there's a lot of value in bulk esp when C$ Values don't line up. (So back with the old guide, and potentially now depending on where 2010 rares fall in C$)
Non is worth 100-150 09 rares but only 2k C$?
Just get bulk and sell the 09 rares.
even 35 C$ each at 100 of them is 3500 C$, 1.5x profit, and people would totally snatch up like, 09 rare dogs for 35 C$ at the time, that was a steal when most people were putting them at like 40-45 for a dog.
Calculate this real quick in C$
Non = 2k C$ or 50 "Old Rares" let's say 2010.
2010 Rare worth 40 C$?
40 C$ x 50 2010 Rares = 2000 C$
Math work now. Bulk valued correctly.
Also, @ Bulk trade-downs were extremely rare.
I always thought this was because nobody wanted to trade their bulk (or had the bulk to offer) for like, nons+. Who is offering 100+ rare pets for 1 pet? It just feels less when its MA or Sept. List because number smaller mean offering less even when not offering less, just feels like it. $20 in one bill feels like less in your hands than $20 in singular bills.
Also thank you for reassurance. Would say more but I'm falling asleep at my computer-- Goodnight
