rain again. sigh.
oakley paused and looked around.
where is she?!
he brushed against a large wet
leaf by accident, and he shook out
his fur to dry. not that it mattered
anyway, with this nonstop rain.
"maybe the rain prevented her
from coming.."
would it? he was pretty sure that
moth wouldn't care, rain or not.
the pitter-pattering of raindrops was
all he could hear as he strained his ears
for any sign of her.
nope.
a lone raindrop slid down his cheek fur.
he was drenched. he turned his head
to look around for a second time yet still
found nothing.
it was decided. he would wait here until
sunset. if she still didn't come, he would
go back to his little den in the forest.
"i'm right here, oakley, you big oaf!"
a melodious voice yowled from behind.
the tom instantly whipped his head around
and came face to face with his beloved.
her head was popping out from an elder
bush, her endless blue eyes staring back
at him lovingly. he touched noses to her
soft white fur, licking her forehead rapidly.
"hey, you scared me! at first i thought you
wouldn't come." oakley's voice was annoyed,
but he knew moth could hear the worry and love
in them.
moth slid out from the bushes, revealing her
full body. she was beautiful as always, but something
was different. she lookedโฆ.significantly plumper since
their last meet-up.
oakleyโs eyes widened in concern.
โmoth!! i thought i told you it was okay
to not visit when the kits are almost due!โ
he exclaimed, gingerly patting her belly.
moth smiled. oakley thought it was dazzling as always.
and she purred, โcalm down, oakley. the kits wonโt be
due for another moon or so. for now, i can still come here.
itโs just my belly gets in the way sometimes, yowch.โ
โalright, then, if you say so.โ oakley mewed. he glanced
back at moth. the raindrops seemed to slide of her fur. it
didnโt look like oakleyโs at all, whose fur was a drenched,
soggy mess.
โnow, wanna have some fun in the rain?โ
โโโโโโ
โyou still canโt catch me even when
Iโm pregnant, oakley? i never thought you
were this slow!โ moth teasingly meowed,
twining her tail with oakleyโs.
โhey, I donโt wanna hurt you!โ oakley
protested.
โoh, oakley. itโs fine! you know about my
powers. Iโve told you countless times.โ
โyes, yes. I know. immortality.โ
โexactly!โ moth purred, twining her tail
with oakleyโs. โdo..do you think the kits will
be immortal too? i donโt want them or you to..
outlive me.โ he sighed.
mothโs look turned stern. โlook, oakley.
Iโve told you before, you just got to live in
the moment sometimes. worry about the future
later, okay?โ
and oakley, despite himself smiled.
โyouโre right, moth. i should stop worrying
andโโ
a yowl.
moth looked terrified.
and oakley stared into her desperate,
terrified eyes.
โi think the kits are coming!โ
โโโโโโโโโ
it seemed like they were out
in the rain for ages.
there were already two shattered sticks
below him. there wouldnโt be any more
kits, would there?
there werenโt. and oakley set his azure
eyes upon the two most precious things he
had ever seen in his whole life.
one was pure, soft white just like her mother.
like doves and down and fluffy soft pillows.
the other was a miniature recreation of him.
they were perfect.
