CS OMGSR Pet Popularity Poll [RESULTS POSTED!]

Forgot to post but I voted on this yesterday! ^^ Are any of the results viewable yet? I see people talking about them but don't know where to look!

After you fill it out you click the thing that says "See previous responses"

Hopefully when there is way more data someone can make a pictured list of all the pets ranked by demand. Also commenting so more people can see the poll! The food rankings really surprised me.

Once we have a lot more people vote and the results seem somewhat stable, I’m going to calculate an average for each pet and assign them popularity rankings!

I think getting the averages makes sense, but I’m worried about someone making an actual list. as seems clear from the comments and votes, how much someone likes a pet is very subjective. but once something is written down like a list, it becomes like a rule on this site. I hope this data ends up being something that is interesting and useful, but not a way to over inflate or deflate certain pets, since how much people like different pets differs wildly.

the numbers will also only actually be useful if enough people vote to be somewhat representative. we also have to remember that this is a selective survey, so more casual players may not be voting with as much frequency (which would be important in a representative survey).

When I say I'm planning to assign popularity rankings, I just mean when I post a list of "final" results I'll post them in rows with pets of similar averages next to each other essentially. I don't intend to make any claims about value or trading or whatnot because the purpose of this is solely to gage pet design popularity. Things like Horror's list that focus more minutely on rarity/scarcity would also be an important factor in trading, I don't think you can really account for one without the other. I also think this poll is really highlighting the fact that in many cases, demand is more subjective than we realized, and perhaps there could be more ways to consider a pet rather than only two options: good demand or bad demand.

I do feel bad for the rats, but at the same time only a couple of them really rate above a 5 (could take or leave) for me. Most of the rats I really like are in lower rarities. The majority of the OMGSR ones being more 'natural' coat patterns or having very limited/similar palettes instead of cool artistic designs like the pumpkin/jack-o-lanterns may hurt their value just as much as them being rats, and unfortunately that's not something you really can change no matter what rarity their tag says. The grinners and cake dogs, similarly, all feel like very slight variants of each other, so the casual user might only want the one they like the most and ignore the rest. In contrast, dog litters like the moonswirl, sorbs, sundogs, etc. are quite varied and employ a broader colour range that make it more compelling to collect them all.

Then there's the zebras, which I cannot for the life of me tell apart unless I see them all next to each other, and theoretically should fall into the same low-demand bracket as grinners. But I think their (and the Malk dragons) popularity comes from the mystique around how to get them. Whenever someone shows up in the monthly discussion thread confused about the baby zebra they somehow got, everyone gets very excited and congratulatory. It doesn't happen often, but often enough (and spaced throughout the year) that the hype doesn't have time to die down the way a new UR's hype can over the course of the year.

I am really not surprised about the rats.
I really love rodents IRL, but I really dislike the design here.
This litter has the only rats I really like - I wish all rats would look like this.
Size could be a factor, but for me these
are some of my absolute favourite pets on the whole site so for me it's more about the design that's neither cute nor "cool" or something.

As another lover of rats in real life I agree with the rexes being the cutest in that lineart. I personally love this hamster/rat litter, it shows the cute rat personality much better, and think CS rats would be better liked if they were a cuter lineart like this

damn, what's with the green-fronted holly hate? it's not my favorite pet but i was noooot expecting such a negative trend on the graphs XD

also, i feel like the only person who's not big on the blue malk pps. i got it last year for dec 18 and... never grew fond of it. the lines just... aren't it, for me.

Agh I looove the body, it actually looks like a reptile! and like a dragon hoarding its treasure! the pose and body are great for me but the EYES. They're just so angry 😫 they're like serious and stern and it's not cute, idk! We need blue malk PPS contact options lol I swear
