You're only struggling to get trades because people are still operating under the rules of the old system. 2:1 is dead.

Ah, this update is exactly as divisive as I imagined aha. Making such a drastic change to the rarity system was bound to ruffle some feathers, and I’ll agree that it certainly isn’t perfect (the distribution of certain OMGSRs comes to mind, I don’t think that the nons, which were actively made to be the ‘common’ members if their respective litters, should have the same label as their rarer counterparts for instance).
However, I do believe that this update was necessary. The rarity system and its depiction of actual rarity has been a continual issue ever since I joined CS, and I don’t think it could have stayed the way it was forever. After all, there have been rarity overhauls under the old system (2019 comes to mind) which aimed to address this very issue, only for the same problems to continue regarding the accuracy of rarity labels. Another overhaul in that same vain, as suggested in the poll, would have done little to ‘fix’ the rarity problem imo. Changes in regard to the actual sorting of rarity was absolutely necessary. Now we’ll just have to see how this plays out once people get used to the new labels.

Just curious, how exactly would you picture this? Putting the nons in ER even though they're apparently above the OMGSR threshold? Creating even more rarer categories?



We're only talking about a small group of (OMGSR/list/high value) pets here, and we already have 11 categories. It seems like some users want the labels to be so specific they'll mimic the list tiers, but can you imagine the chaos of like 15/20/25+ categories? With the top ones only having like 10-20 pets each? Having them all in the top tier, and then making a list to differentiate, should be enough imo.

I've been here, as an extremely active player, for over a decade and have never gotten into "list trading" because of how rare and unattainable the list/OMGSR pets are/were. You have to get really lucky, during re-release or some generous soul's giveaway, to get such a pet if you weren't a player back in '08 or '09, or willing to drop a lot of real life money. I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of the players aren't bothered by the difference between a dogtag and a nontag, because they're both nigh impossible to get anyways. I get that it's annoying to figure this out again for list traders, but I think (don't have numbers to back it up lmao) that you're a tiny minority and creating even more categories for such a tiny minority's convenience is crazy.

i think that litter specifically is a bad example. all of those dogs deserve to be omgsr, they were already omgsr before the update, them losing rarity wouldn't make sense. i think most pets the first couple of months deserve that omgsr tag.

i am not personally bothered by the update at all, but i can see why some people are unsure. having a brown cookie on the same tier as a ur tiger dog could get a little confusing.

honestly i'm probs gonna wait a while to see what happens with trading. the new update to rareities was certainly interesting when my previously "very common" group now ranged from "extremely common" to "extremely uncommon" though.

very much like the new rarity system, but like someone else said, would love to see rare tags added to items as well :3

Serious question but have you guys considered that the 'new' OMGSRs are simply moving closer to the 'old' OMGSRs in number over time? Obviously the threshold of OMGSR has been lowered a little for this update, but perhaps these pets were already becoming closer in rarity.

Look at it this way: the website is now 15 years old and we have a rerelease every year. This is done to make old pets such as the Moonswirl not completely unobtainable. Isn't it entirely possible that the rerelease numbers have been set in such a way that 'old OMGSRs' are kept at a certain amount of circulation while 'old very rares' were allowed to slowly gain in rarity?

It would make sense to run rereleases this way, as there are more and more years of monthly releases. Letting only a few pets be the rarest would be extremely detrimental to the economy. For balance it would be smart to let more pets go rare over time.

Sadly users' perception has made it that the old rarest of the rare pets are still valued exponentially compared to new pets. I think if we got to see the actual numbers we'd probably all be very surprised
(Just take a browse at threads like OMGSR pet count, or on site auctions, there really aren't exponentially less Moonswirls and so forth)

Perhaps a Sunjewel, Moonswirl or UR Tiger is worth about 2-3 'new' OMGSRs, but I highly doubt more would be justifiable.
