Forum/viewtopic.php?t=4852989Human mentioned, neighbor's, new friend is a mother cat and her kittens
Writing:I looked around with my beautiful purplish and lighter eyes. I saw my friend, as well as the human, then thought of my love. I shook my head a couple times, and let out a small breath. I looked alrund once more, but there wasn't much of interest. I'd been here long enough now to know everything in the house. There was really nothing new or exciting anymore. I again shook my head, then flicked my tail. I barked at my human, then looked towards the back door. They made a small sound, and let me out there. I looked around, sniffing around, hoping my love was also out. He wasn't...I could tell he wasn't. I barked to my human once more, whom told me to hush and so I let out a small huff.
I didn't understand why they wanted me to be quiet...until I heard the neighbor yelling. My human apologized to the neighbor. I growled a bit at the neighbor...whom yelled again. I barked again just to spite here, but when I heard a meow I looked up. There, on the fence, was a tortoiseshell she cat. Yes, even I knew that's what that was called. I stared at her and her beautiful coat. I hadn't known the neighbor had a cat, and I made a small sound when she jumped down, then back up with a kitten. She jumped down to my yard. She lowered the kitten to the ground. She hissed as if to tell me I'd better be nice to the kitten. I could tell the little black and white thing was a male, I could tell by a smell.
All animals could tell different genders apart like that. I shook my head a couple times, pawing at my muzzle. I accidentally pawed my nose, and caused myself to sneeze. The kitten meowed, loudly, staring at me, then he too sneezed. The mother cat hissed as she appeared with another black and white kitten. This one was a girl, and I shook my head at the mother. She set this one down as well, disappearing over the other side. She reappeared with a white and red kitten. She set that one down, went back, and brought over a white and black kitten to my side. She went back over, bringing me a calico kitten next. When she went over for the last time, then returned, it was with a male calico this time.
My human had read about cats one day, telling me and our other companion male calicoes were rare. I hadn't thought much of it then. I did now, as well as the fact they couldn't have kittens...I didn't think that was such a big loss, anyway. I laid down as the mother stared at me, and the kittens began to pounce and jump. They managed to make their way up. They were now all on my back. One went up my neck, trying to clamber up onto my head. I forced myself to be still, not wanting to harm the small things. Neither did I want the mother cat to get angered at me...She sat there now, looking for all the world like a queen. She began to daintily lick a paw, then ran it over her face and ears.
It seemed she'd designated me as the baby...kitten sitter of the day.
I shook my head but I wasn't annoyed, happy to have made new friends.
That seemed to be what she was considering me to be now.
After some time, she grabbed one kitten and jumped the fence again.
My human ended up opening the gate between our yards.
I picked up the little white and black kitten, carrying him.
My human carried the two black and whites.
The mother ran back to gather her white and red one,
I returned for one of the calicoes.
Her human got the other calico.
Like this, we returned them all to the safety of their own yard. The cat purred as she rubbed against one of my legs. She wound in and out of my two front legs now. I raised one leg unsurely, and this seemed to please her more as it gave her more room to move.
I shook my head a couple times as I looked at her. She continued to do this for a bit, then moved off to her own human. I learned her name was actually Queenie. The kittens were Princess and Prince (calicoes), Joker and Dame (black and whites), Valentine (white and red) and Hallow (white and black).
My human had taken a picture of me, Queenie and the kittens when we'd been back in our yard.
I was able to show the Shopkeeper the new friend(s) I'd made.
(I forgot I didn't have to count the words...or do I? Well, I did it anyway and its 806 according to Wordcounter and...wow, didn't think I'd actually manage that much)
(Stocking shelves is still last, so I'll do another scavenging after this)
