I definitely remember the lineart change for the horses and fennecs. I had to go though and fix lots of dress-ups on horses that were out of place on the new lineart. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of my old horses/ponies still have saddles and harnesses and things just kind of floating near them for this reason even now. I don’t remember the old Malk lineart at all - this is the first I’m seeing those Malk wolf linearts for sure! - but that’s probably just because I didn’t have any malks that early on lol

I also definitely remember the power outage! I was at a sleepover and was annoyed I couldn’t browse CS but super interested in what was going on and what was gonna happen/how it would be fixed.

The rarity update! Was that really only just in 2019?! Did they have another one around ~2012 or am I thinking of when they first added the colored bars to indicate rarity? That definitely helped me out a ton back in the day lol I remember having to double and triple check to make sure the pet I clicked said ‘uncommon’ not ‘common’ and vice versa.

I don’t hear many people talk about Malks old linearts so I’m wondering if they changed the pet lines early on after becoming an artist.
I know that the Malk elemental cats seem to have kept the old pose, which I’m super happy about!

You know, the more I think about it the more I’m convinced what I’m thinking of here is when they first added colored indicators for rarity. Like you have shown here, the color indicators were originally just in 4 colors - green, yellow, orange, red - since those were the only four rarity variations at the time. Before the colored indicators it was just plain text below the pet that read ‘Common’, ‘Uncommon’, and so on. It could get confusing - at least for me lol - because if you were in a hurry to send out a trade and just skimmed over pets, it would be super easy to miss a 2-letter difference between common and uncommon pets. And since there was so much variation within any one rarity at the time - high vs low uncommons like you have pictured in the original post, for example - someone sending a common for a high uncommon, for example, could sometimes ruffle some feathers lol

The color coding definitely helped me out a LOOOT xD

And I remember how exciting it was when they added the Omg So Rare category! I remember rushing to the 2008 page on the archive to see how many of the oldest and highest-demand pets made the cut (and which high demand pets didn’t o_o). I remember keeping an eye on the Rares List discussion just before the decision to retire it. A lot of people were really stunned when non-mainlist pets went OMGsr.


I can’t believe I forgot about the C$ store mascot! And oooh the old layout art! That’s what it looked like when I joined! :,)

Like many others have said, I also was too young to buy anything from the CS mall. I spent ages staring at the page and imagining how cool it’d be to have some of these pets as stickers, especially the ones I never thought I’d have on my account like the galaxys or the balloon dogs. Still holding out hope that they’ll put out more someday. Someday…

Thank you for compiling this list! Despite how old my account is, I’m actually rarely ever active in any forum space beyond the trade threads. So, while things like the Chicken-o items, Sunback Plush, and Anthrocon happened while I was here and active, I didn’t actually hear about these things until much later when I ran into older members talking about them. While I may have missed out on these things myself, I still find it interesting to learn about these things after the fact, and it’s super exciting to find new things I’d never heard of! Like the borked items or the Unreleased BW! Super cool, so thank you!! ^^

Same here! I had never seen the CS posted before someone had uploaded a photo of it on this thread!
