Which path should we take to improve the pet rarity system?

It’s because store pets cost money. If they were valued the same as regular rares, then that would mean that all ‘23 rares would cost 25C$. If a ‘23 rare is worth that much, then that would HUGELY inflate the values of old rares.

The other reason is that store pets are generally more rare than other rares. That’s why they usually turn VR long before other rares from the same date, and they often turn VR even before a lot of much older rare pets.

When store pets [b]don’t[/] turn VR for a long time, it’s because a lot of people bought them. If a lot of people bought them, that’s an indicator that people like those designs, and demand starts to come into play.

Adding 4 new rarities should help show that store pets are more rare, which will help with the confusion. And if they turn out not to be more rare, it will show that too, and maybe it will make them a bit easier to trade for.

Adding four new rarities, even going by the 2:1 rule (2 very commons for a common, 2 commons for an uncommon, etc) is going to make trading up so much harder.
I really, really do not support this.

This is exactly why I feel the need for both more rarity groups but also more clarity on what the differences are between the groups. One rare should not be more rare than another rare when the only difference is a small C$ mark. And even more so this is confusing to new players and those who don't regularly trade. In fact I'd say that the rares released in normal litters could potentially be "more rare" as there was only ever a set amount released, where as there is no limit (that I know of) on how many store pets can be bought each month.

I understand that for every store pet that's bought someone, somewhere, at some point had to put real money into CS. But that doesn't mean that the person trading the pet did so, nor does it mean that the person buying it at the store did so. People can trade C$ as well, for pets/art/items etc. Someone could buy C$'s then use them to "buy" a non-store pet during a trade. People may get the C$ store pets through gifts or giveaways.

Edit to clarify: Store pets can only initially be got from the store using C$. C$ can be bought for real money, but you can also get C$ from other players through gifts, trading, and payment for artwork. If you paid directly for store pets and could ONLY get them for IRL money my opinion would be different.

I understand people want value for their real money but the 10 year gap between 2 pets who's rarity suggests they should be worth the same is mindboggling.

I also love Pyromaniacal's version where the OMGSR's color is rainbow! It makes it truly stand out and feel very special.


Rainbow is currently being used for custom pets so I’m not sure that’s a good idea. I agree with Froggieee too that it stands out too much, which is probably why customs have the rainbow bar.

This is just a geuss.
The poll ends 21st August so nothing till then at minimum. And then this is only ideas, they have to sort final names, graphics, coding, etc. I'd rather it was sooner as opposed to later but especially with two big events coming up (Halloween, Christmas) I feel like it won't be till next year. I do know we will get plenty of warning though, it won't happen suddenly without us knowing.

Reads to me as "once the poll is over and the graphics/coding have been adjusted, it will be implemented 2 weeks later", and I don't think the graphics and coding will take too long, at least not long enough to delay it into next year. We have a month between now and Halloween and several until Christmas, and I believe most of the work in regards to those is on the artists, so I'm not sure why those would cause an issue with this project?

i voted for adding the 'very uncommon.' i imagined having to sort through over 5500 pets (not even a large number compared to other cs users) after having 4 different rarities added and it seemed like a lot of hassle.

but if im understanding this right, all pets will be redistributed over the current rarities either way so it doesnt really matter? in that case, the 'very uncommon' and the 4 added rarities would be my fav options.

one thing that has always confused me is that the omgsc pets are actually lower in number than common or even uncommon pets. i think thats because there are fewer types, but numerically there are more than, say, copies of a very rare pet?

im kind of just rambling at this point lol. but i do like that categories will have the same prefixes if the new rarities are added (i.e. 'very' and 'extremely') versus the current system where the 'uncommon' category is the middle rarity.

color-wise, the 4 new rarities mockup is a little easier on the eyes and blends better. the cool tones indicate pets on the common end of the spectrum and the warmer the color, the rarer it is. and thats nice!

the more i think about it, i do like the options with added rarities. by the time this gets implemented itd be nice to have a pet grouping QoL update where there are options to sort and filter pets in a group... if at all possible :>

terrible terrible idea..... i already disliked when the rarities were reworked some number of years ago, and so many of my pets lost value.
this is going to continue to ruin the trading economy and continue to make pets less valuable, and older rares even HARDER to trade for. I do not support this one bit

is sorting by rarity really that common? i just toss all my pets of a species in the same group unless they're for trade or part of something specific lol
