I'm a bit torn on the idea of giving store pets their own rarity. While on one hand, I can see that being helpful, especially when it comes to wanting to have a complete collection of pets without including store pets (there would also need to be some changes on the archive side of things, but that's a different topic entirely), on the other hand, I can see that being confusing for a lot of users. What exactly would "store pet rarity" relate to on the normal rarity scale? Is it a rare? A very rare? An extremely rare? It's a conundrum, to be sure.

i personally dont think witholding the rarity of store pets is the best answer for that particular problem; the rarity bars show how many exist in total (in the case of store pets, how many were purchased and now in circulation). perhaps some kind of larger/more noticeable store symbol/word on the rarity bar would be better suited for those that have trouble distinguishing when a store pet is a store pet?

That's a good idea. Like a special symbol added to the rarity bar to indicate that the pet is one that will never be released again (and a note somewhere on the pet explaining what that symbol means).

with the mention of adding stars instead of the coloured rarity tags, i think an option under the ''change pet display settings'' could be added instead, like how you can change them to text labels instead of an image bar. the stars would personally hurt my eyes, and i can see colours a lot better than finer details at a first glance (for me, half a star would hurt my eyes), so having a togglable option for both would be best i think!

That would be a good compromise, I agree. I also think, instead of the link on the pet's page that says "this pet was sold in the store" directing to the store itself, it should direct to a page that describes what a store pet is, much like what the PPS pets have.

Oh, secondary thought (in addition to my previous post). Not whole-y related to the rarity categories, but as some mentioned possible confusion with 11 rarity categories, it might be prudent to consider adding an official site-sanctioned "tutorial" (on rarities in this case, since it's relevant, but I don't think an overall tutorial would be amiss). Perhaps not to include specific things that may change over the years/depend on the user (like demand of certain pets or what species are more popular than others), but something clearly laying out what each rarity category means, how they compare, and maybe a section on secondary considerations (things that might affect rarity but may change over the years like simply some pets may be more wanted than others, to ask for help if you're unsure, etc.). Even if it's short and basic, I think it may help especially with the rarity change considering many users may not think or desire to visit the forums/may not see the user-made guides (not to mention user-made guides may go inactive, may be relevant to a certain time period/economy, etc.).

I do not think adding more options is necessarily the right call. It may show the distrubution of pets better, but it may well make trading more complicated and tedious, especially for casual traders.
From what I gathered on the "quitting cs" thread, the issues users had were mainly with overblown demand and value of particular pets, which this cannot solve.
I understand that the staff knows this and are doing the best they can to placate users and try to make the rarity distribution more transparent, but I think the rarity options we have are quite enough already.
This is, of course, just my opinion, but I would still appreciate an option to vote to make no changes.

Or we could have a little banner that says store, something like this next to/ under the rarity tag

we actually already have a CS rarity guide found here:
Forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=4201164 ; this could potentially be expanded upon if it's something ya'll find isn't detailed or comprehensive enough. but that's a discussion staff would need to have, as we especially don't really want to have any official "demand" guide or things of the sort because that's a personal decision on a user by user basis.
