Inactive accounts dont count towards the rarity of pets (they become invisable to the system that calculates the pets to set their rarity). And with dec 18th they get rereleased anyway. Its just 3 pets per person, but there could be 100.000 people adopting. That is 300.000 pets that come into the game.

Realistically, although there are no absolutes, if you don't check in after 10 years you probably aren't coming back. The number of people who DO come back after all that time is going to be VERY very small. I had an obsolete email attached to this account for many years and didn't realise as I knew my log in and password, but its up to all of us to keep our own details up to date.

100% agree that it's the USER'S responsibility, not the staff or the website.

If you are an active user and you don't want to lose anything, keep yourself up to date. Change your password regularly. It's your account and you need to be responsible for it.

If it was left and abandoned for years, then the user also needs to take responsibility for that. If it gets deleted, it gets deleted. Pretty much every other website I've been on similar to this follows some sort of 'inactivity' rule. I don't see why CS couldn't do the same, since it would benefit the current economy of the site AND free up a lot of space on the backend to make running the site more managable.

If account bloat genuinely became an issue I could get behind deleting accounts with no activity that haven't been logged on in a specific time (no posts, no pets adopted etc). No support for anything else involving deletion though - I'm one of the people who went fully inactive for several years and would've been totally gutted if my whole account was gone when I decided to come back. It's also comforting for me to know that I could take a break, even a longer one, while knowing my pets and items are safe for if/when I decide to return to the site later on.

It isn't impossible for a site's terms of service to change though. When cloud storage decided to reduce the amount of space people got for free, they emailed users about either upgrading or losing what they had stored and then had a year or two to make a decision. I lost some photos because I kept putting it off, MY photos, but those were the breaks.

True, but this happened to me on a diffrent site. I havebeen awayfor years, came back and logged in, everything was there. I was gone for a learlst 5-6 years.
Another hiatus for a year - everything gone. They changes their ToS and had a server merge. All inactive accounts were deleted. They sent an email, but that email of mine was hacked, so i lost it and couldnt enter a new one (you received a link by mailt to confirm, so i couldnt change it).
Long story short: everything gone and i had spent real money on it. I never made a new account after that diasappointment.
Looking for CATS!

Based on what I’ve read so far, I think it’s good that CS doesn’t delete accounts after a long period of inactivity. The staff already said that they weren’t going to consider that anyways. If the CS team really wanted to boost the economy and distribute rarer pets to newer users, then they should have more rerelease days, like December 18th

i just saw someone who came back after 7 years of inactivity. so yeah, i don't think inactivity is a good reason to delete an account.

You cannot just delete accounts. There are other ways to add value to the economy than deleting accounts and redistributing pets. IMO I understand the reasoning, but it's a very surface-level response to a deeper problem.

One of the only way value is added to pets is through time. I tend to quit cs very frequently because, sadly, it benefits me not to play. I come back after 3 years of absence and EXPECT for 1. My account to exist, and 2. For my account and pets to be more valuable.

It's sad but it's true! I don't understand the business approach to CS on Tess and Nicks side. I've always found it baffling that the website incentivizes not playing.

If an inactivity purge feature were implemented, I dont see it negatively affecting your play style. If a nudge email was sent to you, you'd only need to log in to no longer be considered inactive.
A purge system like that would target those who've no desire to log back in, or who are no longer active on those email accounts.

There's a forum page somewhere where a bunch of us are trying to get another December 18th to exist maybe during summer time <3
