Speaking as… someone who’s been here over two years, but who has mostly been inactive during times when there is no event going on- this site is really cool, and I often wish I had discovered it earlier. I still feel like a new player, even though I am definitely not one by this point.

The way I’ve been able to make trading fun for myself is by focusing on completing collections of current pets, since they seem to be the ones I know how to make trades for! Anything else I’ve collected so far has mostly been because people are kind and give gifts- I’ve never been able to even begin trying to understand how trades with older pets really work.

The events always make me spend more time on the site, and I have fun with them! But then I always have a hard time sustaining the motivation to keep coming back. I always intend to keep up with collecting the current monthly pets every day when they grow, but then I end up only coming on once a month to adopt the new pets, until the next event. It is good for me, because I’m an adult with other priorities and it’s nice that I can almost stay caught up even when I am inactive for such long periods of time? But even when I’ve been really into the events, I’ve never been able to focus on like… collecting pets that came out before I got here. It’s been overwhelming.

I don’t know what to conclude from any of this, but thought I’d offer my thoughts as someone who still mostly feels like a new player (even though I am not anymore)!
Hello! Nice to meet you! I have a goal to collect every pet on this website- I started fairly recently, but I’m enjoying the chance to make progress!

If you’re interested in music, music education, and especially choir, feel free to hit me up about that! I’m often quite busy, so I apologize if I’m not always super active!

So in all fairness to CS, most trading based games have experienced something like this. Looking at you Animal Jam. So I think if it was more than a trade based game and they had some minigames that would change out esch month, it would really help the traffic flow of people online.

A fun thing could be monthly scavenger hunts, a few users gets a starting clue to search around the site. They find another clue and post it, and so on until the mystery is solved. A reward at the end could happen but the interaction between users could be the reward in itself.

OKay okay okay so animal jam is actually amazing to bring up in this conversation!! I play on play wild and have for y e a r s. The thing about how animal jam used to be is that it used to be just like this site. Difficult or next to impossible to get the things you want. If you didn't pay real money for sapphires you we're in the gutter and couldn't get anything even with the freebie saphs from games. However with a rather ecent update theres this fun little thing where you can search if a user has something in their shops!!
You can clearly make your way up in animal jam by using the freebie saphs to get a shop, sell some recent party items, get as many saphs as you can stoumach advrisising for, then going to the search and finding what you want. People still price things unreasonablly (that cant really be stopped to my knowllage) but theres usually people selling things like pets for pretty cheap. I'm not sure how this would transfer to cs but I think it's a really good example to set, aj has so much replay value when it comes to day to day with the constantly changing, rotating, and open shops along with games to play and a map to explore.

joining this discussion, i would like to add something. Usernames that people have. Some people that will never log back in again (let’s be honest) have usernames people want. I think that , like how lionden does from what I’ve heard, users over a year inactive should have their username open for grabs /changed.

agree and disagree, i feel like it would be unfair to the users to have their name taken, but at the same time, theres so many usernames i want that are sitting on inactive accounts

I randomly typed in chickensmoothie.com not knowing there was an actual game, but I've been an off and on user. For me, I personally get bored very easily and do not forums for anything lol I usually log on to get the new monthly adopts, check the pound, qnd then wait until next month. The events are the only things that I really like

The amount of re-releases given out each year has been steadily increasing. The problem is not with the quantity of re-releases, but the quality. If you got a handful of 2013 Easter rares and some 2015 candy squids I don't think you'd be as happy as getting 1 2008 OMG so rare.
It is still a super rare chance of getting a really valuable, really old pet on Dec 18th. Personally, I wouldn't mind if everyone was guaranteed a 2008 on Dec 18th, but the rarity and thus demand of those pets would probably go down (which I think is fine : the CS economy bubble needs to burst!)

I agree the CS trade value on pets (and items) can be extreme on some of them! I don't even bother looking for older older pets. Esp store ones.
I don't have enough in CS tradables worth their value. Or off site currency to trade for them either.
Hey CS how about rereleasing some store pets?? And older items?
Maybe something like a CS of playing the lotto to get an older item? Or older store pet? Sorry just had to throw that out there. And no one panic about losing your ability to not get a lot of pets.

Gadreel wrote:The pound is a nightmare ball of anxiety and stress for me omg. I get so stressed when I don't have a wishlist pet on the first page because I know in that 15 seconds of waiting about 100 pets will disappear. Then after a refresh if there's still no wishlist, I'll end up having to grab a non wishlist recently released pet because within a minute everything is basically gone.

Another thing is if I adopt a pet and someone else gets it that fraction of a millisecond before me, then the site sometimes takes a while to load so I don't know if I got it and then I have to wait and miss out on other pets.

This just happened to me, nothing for 3 or 4 refreshes! My heart was pounding haha. I did manage to get a cute bird I had missed though. :)

Loelya wrote:I disagree slightly but not about the sentiments behind this! just that the very low maintenance aspect of CS is something that I think is a vital part of the experience here; a lot of people who have jobs, families, etc still come back and log in just about every month because the participation costs tend to be so low.

if more activities were created I think they'd do best being things that only add personal flavor to the site, rather than require more account maintenance. I do like the idea of a live chat room, that'd be pretty cool, and would purely be a social thing rather than a game thing. another suggestion I've heard before that I really like is for staff to create a little "game room" or "arcade" where they can post the little minigames they've created for events (like "feed the camper," or that snake game from the internet event). that way there would be cute, CS-customized games on-site to play and people could do things like chat about highscores, without impacting the playability of other areas of the site.

I agree with the sentiment that low-maintenence is very appealing, because I have so little free time anymore and I've started many other games and just...quit...because the pressure to log on every day is so stressful that I get overwhelmed and then if I miss a day/days and lose out majorly because of it, I just stop...it's not worth it. I literally just started PokeFarm last month or so and I'm already getting burnt out on getting daily clicks in...a lot of pet sites, and "casual" games promote a "do you dailies" lifestyle, and I can barely do my "dailies" in real life successfully so...

The arcade idea is great though I would especially love something like that right now when I'm trying to hang out and just wait for new tokens to spawn >.<

yeah I like that it's low maintenance too but I want options. I want the option for fun. there are zero activities

Maybeee we could do something similar to the rarity tag system ( the ones auto applied to the pets ) and try to apply an average price counter? ( maybe average demand price and true average? )
