Assuming the two people leaving the campsite were Cirrus and her 'escort' (and not like, the two canoe-ers), what if one was a Nessie? Flippers would certainly walk funny on land. Mason being the 'escort' doesn't quite make sense since he was back by the time we noticed the two were missing, though I agree Mason seems to have a dislike for Cirrus's camping practices.

However, I do think Mason got Seraphine lost. He didn't mention anything about Seraphine checking out the trail he suggested and only raved about cryptids. It's like he didn't want us to know he last saw her.

Day 2 Conall wrote:"Deep in the woods, there is a cave where it was rumored that a cavern full of glittering gems beyond your wildest imaginings lies hidden, waiting for an intrepid explorer to discover it. For many years, scientists studied the cave--from its giant waterfall to its glowing mushrooms--without discovering its secrets. Then, one day, there was a collapse! All of the rocks in one part of the cave crashed to the ground, and those in the cave traveled through to find the rumored crystals a mysterious land where a civilization had lived in a cold pocket for thousands of years. It is rumored that those explorers even found a way to travel through time and found proof of ancient animals. They weren't supposed to bring anything back, but I think they might have. Late at night, you can sometimes hear strange noises in the woods, and I've heard tales of strange beasts that don't look like any animal we know...""

I think the story about the cave is true and it, like, leads to the center of the earth? That would have magnetic anomalies that effect compasses, and all sort of crazy critters could live in there! What if whatever took Cirrus likes glittering gems? Fairy lights are very like glittering things. They have a lot in common.

I'm not sure about Penny. They seem to know something, but I'm not sure what. The 'red' could also have been more of Seraphine's fur.

Oh yeah and speaking of penny whats up with the "these pets used to be the stuff of legends" stuff?

The animals were once legends! In fact, when British scientists first saw a platypus that had been sent to them from Australia, they thought it had to be a hoax!

The oarfish is thought to be the origin of the sea serpent myth!

Speaking of myths, there's one that says forest fires can be caused by a pangolin rubbing its scales against dry grass or leaf litter in summer!

I don't know any giraffe myths, but their close relative the Okapi was once thought to be a hybrid of zebras and giraffes, they're often called the unicorns of Africa.

The giraffe was also thought to be a mythical creature; the "questing beast" from Arthurian legend was likely a giraffe. It was said to have "the head and neck of a snake, the body of a leopard, the haunches of a lion, and the feet of a hart." So what could it be - a creature with a long neck, small head, spotted body, large haunches, and deer-like feet? A giraffe!

We, CS users, were the ones who discovered that cave, it was the 2021 cave event!

I just wanted to point out that Connall's Day 2 story about the cave with the waterfall is a direct reference to the 2021 Summer event. We discovered a cave with the mentioned waterfall, crystals, and glowing plants. We made contact with an ancient civilization and brought back some of the ancient animals as pets. I'm not sure how or if this will affect/tie into the camping investigation.

*edited to add: shoot, someone beat me to the post!

Any chance that cirrus took seraphine as a buddy for safety to explore the forest and the creatures they kept hearing hints of from campers and other counselors and are just getting ready to share them with us?
Accidents happen and they bumped into a couple signs and a bracelet gets stuck on a tree branch, maybe we're jumping at shadows?

Seraphine's back!

Seraphine wrote:The strangest thing happened. I went for a walk in the woods along one of the trails I hadn't explored yet because Mason told me there was a grove of raspberries down there. He was supposed to watch the tower while I was gone. And there were raspberries! They were delicious. But, when I headed back, I followed the trail signs and somehow got all turned around. It was already getting dark, and I ended up lost out in the woods all night because my compass got broken somehow! Thankfully, I had enough supplies with me that I was okay, and once the sun came up I was able to navigate back to the lakeshore. I'll have to go out there and investigate what's wrong with that trail more thoroughly once we've solved this mystery. As for tomorrow, it's important that I stay here in the Firewatch Tower while Mason is away from the Ranger Station. If there's a fire, no one would be here to report it! If there's anything you need from me before you go, I'm happy to help.

Mason wrote:Seraphine said they just got lost in the woods? That seems suspicious because I know that they're a better Ranger than that. They must have run into a cryptid but not wanted to tell me I'm right! I hope you find those cryptids tomorrow because I'm sure they are the ones who kidnapped that camper. You saw the signs yesterday, didn't you?

So Mason led Seraphine into the woods and got them lost, then claims he had nothing to do with it?!

Mason's looking very suspicious at the moment...

HOLD UP-

Were those red eyes near Seraphine before, and even if it is: read this

As you leave, though, your flashlight catches on a red reflection in the bushes. There sure are a lot of raspberries! No matter, you need to get back before lights out. Trail signs point the way, but as you’re about to make a right turn your buddy stops you and insists that it’s the wrong direction. When you check carefully you can see that someone has altered the sign, and it’s supposed to point left. Thanks to your buddy’s keen eye you make it back to camp safely.

What if the thing with red eyes is actually the culprit, and when you eat the Raspberries they switch the signs to get people lost because... Maybe were invading the things home?

I wonder if the poor cryptids (or maybe even forest animals, like bears) are just protective over their rapidly decreasing supply of raspberries. No, really, think about it, first Mason finds a patch, then Seraphine does after Mason's directions, now camper + buddy also get some, there soon wont be any raspberries left! :o

OR it could be Penny's hat that we saw in flashlight. Among the leaves, red flashes could be from something bigger behind the bushes. :?: And Penny repeatedly speaks of "forest friends", which could also include cryptids. Perhaps Penny knows the cryptids and helps them scare off the invaders. The cryptids are likely not happy about all the beads scattered around and thrown in the lake.
