As players work with their Chimeleons to unlock traits, organize breedings and more, probabilities of different outcomes will be logged here, for the community's reference. Anything that's been revealed about genetics or questing will go here! It is worth noting that as the community grows, statistics and variables may be tweaked to keep things fair and interesting.

Questing specific odds:

Finding loners appears to have a 1 in 10 probability, though seeking them may often produce other lesser finds.
Finding markings or mutations that are new to the community at large, within a certain category, seem to have roughly a 2 in 10 possibility at present.
Finding markings or mutations which are new to your Chime, but not the community, seems to have roughly a 1 in 10 possibility at present.
Finding LARGE positive surprises in a True Surprise Quest seems to be a 2 in 13 chance. However there may be as high as a 7 in 13 chance of finding SOMETHING positive during a True Surprise Quest.

Misc. Data:

It is easier to learn and discover basic markings than "mimic" type markings.
It is easier to learn and discover mane types than any other mutation.
It is most difficult to learn mutations not based on any particular source ("inspired" mutations).
Inanimate objects are harder to mimic or mutate towards than other animals or plants.
It seems like visitors to the Seer typically have about 50-50 luck!

Exact numbers of the above probabilities have not yet been revealed.

All traits known to the community are listed here. When any contact learns of a new trait, it is added to the list! For ease of access, we suggest searching using "Ctrl+F" if you want to know about a specific trait.


This is what a "base" Chimeleon's genes looks like (though coloration and markings aren't displayed here).
As far as Chimes know from their lore down through the ages, these are the traits which they "began with"
and which are most common to be born with. Natural coat colors to Chimes are less understood, as are markings.

Markings:

Markings come in a specific pattern that is much the same from Chime to Chime, whether it is a Coat Marking or a Mane Marking, unless it is a Mimic Marking. Mimic Markings are sorted by category, with each Chime's specific manifestation of the theme being unique. For Mimic Markings in the log below, known categories are listed, with examples of Chimes that bear each type, but be advised that every time a Chime is born with Mimic, it's markings will be a unique design within the category's theme.

It is thought that regarding Mimic Markings, they can grow more complex the more generations in a row manifest the same elements. For example, the first generation to have a sun design on its coat might be fairly simplistic. But if in their offspring a sun is also displayed as part of their Mimic design, it may become more detailed.

Mimic markings can also manifest together. For instance, a Chime may have Celestial and Floral, featuring flowers and a sky scene! Similarly, mimics might be categorized overall as one element, but contain others within them (such as a marine mimic containing cliff-faces, or a floral mimic containing a pond).

Mimic: Floral

A Chimeleon showing Mimic: Floral displays chameleon-like talent in mimicking any type of plant on it's coat somehow, whether a singular flower, leaves from a certain tree, a forest scene, or a bed of turnips. Within the floral category is infinite possibility. Below are two examples:

Mimic: Celestial

A Chimeleon showing Mimic: Celestial displays chameleon-like talent in mimicking the heavens, whether at night or by day. Their coats might show anything from constellations and planets to a shooting star or a single crescent moon. Even weather anomalies have been seen, so long as they are sky-linked phenomena. Within the celestial category is infinite possibility. Below is one example:

Mimic: Marine

A Chimeleon showing Mimic: Marine displays chameleon-like talent in mimicking the sea, whether that be the seashore with shells, glass, rocky cliffs, seagulls and turtles, or the depths of the ocean, with kelp, sharks, treasure chests and eels. Within the marine category is infinite possibility. Below is a notable example:

Mimic: Freshwater

A Chimeleon showing Mimic: Freshwater displays chameleon-like talent in mimicking bodies of water excluding the ocean, whether that be streams, rivers, ponds, lakes, or waterfalls The marking may include creatures that reside in freshwater habitats, or sparse plant life, though more complex plant presence requires Mimic: Floral.

Mimic: Vestment

A Chimeleon showing Mimic: Vestment displays chameleon-like talent in mimicking clothing styles of any type, whether that be suits, dresses, armor, accessories, uniforms or any other clothing object. Unlike worn apparel, Mimic: Vestment is a marking that simulates wearing clothing, and therefore it cannot be unequipped or changed, though apparel CAN be placed over it.

GlimGlam Dust - a multi-purpose item which serves as apparel and a trait revealer. Using it reveals one "???" trait if the Chime has one. The glitter apparel feature can be removed later, but if it is, you can't re-equip it. Also, its approximate color can be chosen. Click here to see an example of the GlimGlam Dust on a Chime.

Completed Customs:


Ember, ID #2, owned by CousinEnby

Ember uses mutations which were already in development (premade), with a brand new custom marking design (Doberman) that was invented by CousinEnby specifically for Ember, and which now is included in the traits database of possible genetics!
Coloration was completely customized with detailed communication back and forth on line colors, feather patterns for wings and tail, and how to adapt the Doberman Marking to fit a Chimeleon with Chicken Beak and Rooster Tail mutations!


Strawbebby, ID null, owned by off-site friend, AlchemistBear.

Strawbebby introduced cloven hooves to the Chimeleon gene pool, as they were specially requested by my friend. He also features special heart markings incorporated into his Tabby trait!

This custom was done for myself. I applied a combination of traits already in development and a completely new custom-made mane design for the vision I had. I challenged myself to spend extra time on the shading for this one compared to the more classic sketch-shading Chimes usually display, to give him that other-worldly edge.

CousinEnby asked for all of the traits specifically, except for specification that if the Coat: Pickerel wouldn't work WITH Mimic markings, it could be omitted. We decided to blend the Mimic design into the Pickerel, using the spots as lilypads and going from there. CousinEnby did ask for a completely new trait that wasn't already in development: webbed frog-ish feet, which has since been added to the known traits library. The rest were picked from already-in-development traits.
