Paws pounded the earth as orange and white jaws snapped at tabby heels. Snuffle didn't dare look back as he darted between trees towards the cliffs edge, he had one shot at this and if it didn't work he knew the outcomes would either be within a foxes stomach or on the jagged rocks below. Surely climbing a tree would've been a wiser decision, right? Honestly a lot of things would've likely been wiser, but it was too late to backtrack now regardless, even a second of hesitation could result in his demise at this point. The world disappeared before him as he neared the edge, and at the very last second he veered to the side to dart along a narrow path down the cliff face. Claws did little to prevent his paws slipping on the water-slick stones but despite the fox chase and the almost-falling-off-a-cliff-situation he somehow, somehow, made it back into the shadowed cave with his life. He couldn't believe he'd just done something so risky, and the fox must've thought the same as it never seemed to follow. Snuffle huddled in the far corner from the entrance, panting and trembling following the encounter. As the adrenaline rush faded away, his eyes welled with tears. He just wanted to be home with his housefolk. The world had never felt this daunting in the moons of adventuring with them. They always protected him, they must've realised he was missing by now, but where were they? Why hadn't they returned for him? He let out a hiss of frustration and blinked away the tears. He decided he'd return to the lake the following day to see if his housefolk were searching for him. He attempted to settle into his nest that night, but spent hours unable to sleep as uncertainty overwhelmed his thoughts
Snuffle followed the river inland as a light chill hung in the morning air, and he couldn’t tell if his trembling legs were from the cold or his nerves. The sun had risen overhead by the time he reached the expanse of water. He circled a couple of times, calling into the trees for his housefolk that he was here, ready to be taken home where everything was safe, but they never called back. Eventually he gave up searching and waded into the water just off the bank. “Hello?” he called yet again, though not to his housefolk this time, “Is anyone there?” The forest went silent almost immediately, no wind, no bird song, just the soft sound of water is he stepped further into the shallows. A figure gradually faded into existence before his eyes, tranluscent and dotted with stars, but never once causing a ripple among the waters surface. Snuffle knew it was real though, as he had met the strange figure in previous visits to the lake.
“Hello again,” the voice belonged to that of a tom and as the figure became more opaque Snuffle could make out the rounded ears and long tabby fur of a familiar face. As if reading Snuffle’s mind, the cat spoke again. “I’m very sorry, but your ‘housefolk’ are yet to return.” His heart sank immediately and he pondered his next words.
“I appreciate you keeping an eye out, but if they don’t come back for me how will I survive out here? I’m not a wild cat like you were, I don’t know the first thing about living out here, I just… I need help…”
“I’m aware it wasn’t initially well received, but as I’ve said before, you could start a clan. A group of cats who will support and teach you, protect you even.” The starry cat paused for a moment, giving him a chance to consider the idea. “I’m not sure if they will ever come back, and it may very well be your only option for survival. Starclan have the power to guide cats your way, and you know you can come consult me whenever you need assistance. I led a clan once as well, all those moons ago.” Snuffle traced the reflections of the water, deep in thought. He didn’t want to start a clan, he didn’t know how to start a clan, he just wanted his housefolk. But they weren’t here.
“Fine, but when they come back I have to go home with them, no matter how many cats surround me. Is that understood?” The Starclan cat gave a solemn nod. “Send me a cat then, if that’s how this works.”
“Consider it done. They’ll be with you by morning.” The two cats continued to talk well into the evening about Snuffle’s responsibilities as a leader, the unwritten warrior code that every cat under the stars shared, and everything in between. By dusk he had received his nine lives and was officially named Snufflestar, keeping Snuffle in his name as a reminder of where he belonged. As the Starclan cat disappeared all the sounds of the forest returned, and wind whispered through the trees. For the first time since being lost, the sound made Snufflestar feel safe, and thus the name Whisperclan was chosen.

[ Mod Notes ]
- I had to swap some prey types out for ones in Whisperclans list, but made sure all serving sizes remained the same! Pretty sure it was only a vole -> a mouse and multiple large birds -> large fish, I can link whichever ones were swapped if needed
