True, true. Although I think that people should wait a month or so before trying to rate themselves on this scale. I'm thinking that people should immerse themselves into the society (which is really what we are) and find their bearings before evaluating themselves.

@Mao mi: (I apologize in advance if I sound rude in any way. I don't intend it to, really :) ) 1. I think the current way of thinking is too vague. There's a lot of room for improvement in semi-lit. 2) If we don't hang the terms, the definition won't change. If I said pencil meant pony, people would still think of pencil meaning pencil, not pony. 3) Illiterate means you can't read or write, making it inaccurate for our purposes. 4) I wouldn't like being called illiterate, would you?

but when people "can't take any more nonsense" and "everything is such a slovenly mess", it is only "correct" to call it illiterate. Illiterate, ignorant, foolish, messy, unpolished, uncivilized, inane, immature.

It's is one tiny step above complete lack of education, but the carelessness of it all allows one to safely label "illiterate". text that is hard to understand might as well be(or is it may as well?) be nonsense, and those who care not to read rules, or learn proper mechanics of the language "cannot read".

it is the kindest way to tell someone "you are a blithering idiot", kind like when you put a suffering "dog to sleep"

I really don't think they're "blithering idiots". They simply need practice.

It's a matter of perspective and context.
In this particular case, it's not an insult here unless people start treating it like one.

Illiteracy doesn't necessarily mean you cannot read or write. It can extend to just not meeting up to certain standards, or simply not as refined. From what I can tell, people do not necessarily need perfect grammar to be understood, they just need to be coherent with their ideas.

I can understand chatspeak just fine for the most part, what starts to lose me is when topics start jumping mid-sentence. An example of "what the hell is this," would be something like this:

"I went to the park today the park is very nice and runned by the local city council I rather like the city council, the park was very full today, but I also sometimes think the city council isn't that great. There was someone walking their dog talking on the cellphone, there is a cellphone company that sells biscuits. I like the park, the park was fun."

^ Which is less grammar than it is sorting your thoughts out before you start posting.

I completely agree with ya Enfys. I believe I'm around a 3 or 4. It's not bad, but it's not the best, just about average. I'd like to be a five, but I'm sure glad I'm not a one or two lol just not enough action and excitment in the post for me.

Great job, excelent work! :)

I'd say I'm around a 3.. Maybe a kinda low/middle 3. a little over a year ago i first started roleplaying. I feel cocky saying this, but I was always good, not like I am now though(And I'm not wonderful now). But I never used chat speak/text talk, whatever you wanna call it. And I have seen people worse than what I was when I first started.

Anyway, away from my useless ramblings. I like this. Its great work. Good job!
