Re: Pardon C$ Debt

I assume debt repayment would be paying off their debt through pets/items which they received? (Or reversing anything purchase in the C$ store judging from a message on this topic) (Reference-Lex.+959439)
Restating an older post I made on this topic. Feel free to skip to the bold-text if you already read my previous post.

If a player (M2) gets 500C$ from a hacked account (M1).

M2 now has 500C$ of expendable income.
M2 decides to purchase a 500C$ pet from M3.

This leaves M1 at 0C$
This leaves M2 at 0C$ + pet.
This leaves M3 at 500C$

The trade is reversed between M1 and M2.
M2 does not have 500C$, so ChickenSmoothie pays M1 the 500C$ on M2’s behalf.

This leaves M1 at 500C$
This leaves M2 at 0C$ + Pet
This leaves M3 at 500C$
This leaves ChickenSmoothie at -500C$

Because ChickenSmoothie generated 500C$, someone has to eat the cost, therefore puts the debt onto M2.

This leaves M1 at 500C$
This leaves M2 at -500C$ + Pet
This leaves M3 at 500C$
This leaves ChickenSmoothie at 0C$

M2 reaches out to ChickenSmoothie about their debt (through ticket). Chicken smoothie says that they will convert that pet into 500C$ M2 agrees and that pet is turned into 500C$ which will bring the -500C$ to 0C$

So now;
This leaves M1 at 500C$
This leaves M2 at 0C$
This leaves M3 at 500C$
This leaves ChickenSmoothie at 0C$
(with the pet no longer existing?)

Is that the gist of players fixing their debt? Does any item/pet they received through spending C$ get converted into what they paid? What if the player gifted some of the C$ away? Will they be required to give up pets/items they had always owned/obtained rightfully?

(I am not saying that ChickenSmoothie is requiring players to convert the pets/items into C$ to get out of debt. Since I am unsure what conversations or alternatives are being offered to members who are reaching out through tickets. I can only speculate)

none of this stuff were the traders faults, yet staff seems to be treating it like it was from what i can see. none of these people meant to trade with someone who was hacked, and they all deserve something in return for this hassle they're dealing with. no one should have to deal with debt on a pet collecting site. [...] chances are, with ow inflated c$ is, it will be a struggle to sell the pet they got back for the same amount they sold it for, and vice versa. for people who traded for multiple things, this is even worse, leading to them being hundreds of USD worth of c$ in debt, which is genuinely just ridiculous. i wasn't affected by this at all and yet i fully support pardoning this because it should never have happened in the first place.

THIS! I think it's way more unfair to keep innocent players in CS debt that wasn't caused by them but a bad security system of the game, but to pardon the debt. If you look at the poll, most players think that way!
And if just a small amount of players was affected, why is it such a problem? It wouldn't flood CS with millions of new C$. It would just help affected players to be able to play properly again.

I've been informed the following options will be available for users who are in C$ debt and would like assistance from the admins to fix it;
  • Reversing purchases you made at the C$ store to set your C$ balance back to zero, this would mean giving up previously purchased store pets or items.
  • Returning the pets or items that the C$ was traded for in return for the C$. The pets/items will be placed in the pound.

If you are in C$ debt and are interested in either of these please send in a help ticket. As of this time I'm not aware of any additional options that will be made available. Yes this does mean giving something up in exchange for the C$, likely to help stop anyone who would try and take advantage of a system that gives you things for free.

I realize that some of you are not happy with us pointing out that not that many users were involved but I do just want to stress that there are a lot of users on CS who actively trade and just statistically speaking, the number of users who had a trade reversal due to this and the number with a negative C$ balance due to this is very small compared to the whole site. This is not meant to belittle their position, but as staff part of our job is to consider the needs and impact to the whole site as well as individual users. We still want to help the individuals affected which is why the admins are offering additional options to get their C$ back.

although i personally have not been affected, i was worried for those who didn’t have monetary means to get their c$ out of the negatives, so having other options makes me feel more at ease about it definitely, thank you :)

This is very helpful information!
Could it become an official announcement? So it reaches a larger player base who are in debt? I understand if that is not something that can be done, but more so a suggestion, it will help make it more noticeable to players who have yet to send a ticket/do not frequent/pay attention to the boards.

I’m sorry, I’m still a little confused.
What if the pets or items have been traded away?
What if you obtained you c$ another way?
May I ask what the alternative ways are?

Edit: just re-read the post. It doesn’t seem very fair in my opinion as it’s not the users fault. Genuinely asking this, is there a reason balances can’t just be put to 0 without users loosing stuff?

Users do not lose overall account value if their debt is remediated with these options. They can in effect "reverse" the trade that put them into debt by giving up the pet they got in return for the C$ they traded away, or whatever they traded that pet for. For the users affected they will receive a more thorough explanation when they contact staff. If you are affected and have more specific questions, please include them in your help ticket.

So we’d be enacting… more trade reversals? I’m sorry, I’m confused.

I'm not sure if there will be an announcement as thats not something GMs handle, but as mentioned in the last announcement there are a few more updates being worked on so it may be mentioned when those are pushed out.

Its on the most basic level just offering to 'fix' the missed trade in the reversal process. As mentioned before, reversals don't tag those C$ trades as needing to be reversed because they didn't include the pets the trades being being reversed to restore. Some users asked why those C$ trades can't just be reported or asked to reversed also to restore their C$ balance, since some people are not able to just trade the pets/items they got back for C$ as easily as they traded the C$ away.
