I was bored and randomly got this idea after taking a few cough drops

"Happy eighth birthday, Audrey!" an enthusiastic birthday girl said to her best friend.
"You too, Caitlin," the other birthday girl said as the two hugged.

The nineteen-year-old stood quietly, her eyes glued to the gray, marble headstone. Her eyes scrolled over the words again and again, tears streaming down her freckled cheeks, even though she had read them every day for ten years.

She knelt down and ran her fingers across the stone; it dropped along with her eyes. She knew the her best friend's body wasn't under there. What the headstone said was literal: she was never found, but pronounced dead after being missing for a year and a half.

"Happy nineteenth birthday, Audrey," Caitlin whispered. She could almost hear the words "You too, Caitlin," in reply from her friend. Slowly, she placed a concrete stone next to the marble. It was roughly flattened with two small handprints imprinted in it.

"Do you remember this?" she asked quietly, placing her hand over the small imprint on the right side. "This was from our eigth birthday party. From what we called arts and crafts time." She smiled weakly as her eyes swiveled along the colorful beads that flecked the rock. "This is my hand. And that one is--" Caitlin paused for a moment, took a breath and continued. "And that one was yours."

She sat in silence for twenty minutes. It wasn't until a family of birds began chirping loudly that she snapped back to reality. Caitlin smiled (although her lips didn't part as she did so) and stood up, letting out another deep breath. She began to walk away, and slid her hand across the top of the marble headstone as she did.

"I'll see you tomorrow, Audrey. Happy birthday."

By the way, the name Clear...Well, do you know what NicoNicoDouga is? I mean, it would make sense because you know Hatsune Miku. :3
Also, I can't help but to be curious as to why he's named Attenuate, when it, basically, means...Wait. I shouldn't say. That might give away something. owo

ALWAYS HOPEFUL (Halo/M) + LUNA SEA (Luna/F)

Stay with me. Don't fall asleep too soon.
The angels can wait for a moment.

Her fur was warm against his, and even then he could feel the warmth fading away. He gazed not into her eyes but into the distance, because looking at her threatened for his tears to fall. He listened quietly to her heartbeat, slow and steady; he placed a paw on hers. He wanted this moment to last forever. Even if he knew it would not last for long.

Come real close. Forget the world outside.
Tonight, we're alone.
It's finally you and I.

A few years ago, they would not have even been in this situation. He was the city's top-dog; the leader of the strays, the well-respected, well-loved, well-liked hound who was infamous just as he was famous. She was famous, but for a different reason -- she was the city lunatic, the little she-crazy who ran around whispering little nonsenses that no sane individual would dare utter in public. She said the stars talked to her. Because she said this, she got her name -- or at least, what she was dubbed with. She was happy, however, to finally have a name -- strays almost never did -- and so she happily adopted it.

He never paid much attention to her -- she was always just another face on the street, just another dog in the crowd. What did the town crazy matter, after all, to the city heartthrob? It was that one day, however, when he was on a thrill chase after some of the alley cats, that she bowled right into him. Right at the end of the alley, before the exit into the streets. The cats had passed right by -- she'd purposely bounded right into him, knocking him aside and shocking him just for a minute.

"What the HELL do you think you're doing?" he spat at her, furious she'd broken his stride.
"You can't go out there! The stars told me --" she began, but he didn't allow her to finish.
"The stars had better have told you to run for your life, I'm gonna --" he began, but something else didn't allow him to finish.

A huge truck. Zooming by, the deafening noise of its engine momentarily thundering through the alley, muting any other sound except for its giant roar. Its roaring seemed to go on forever, at least for him, who realized that if he'd gone, he'd have been squashed flat. When the truck had finally gone past, he was for a moment speechless, as if the vehicle had stolen even his voice. When he regained his senses, he turned, and he saw her slinking away into the shadows with the smallest whimper.

I wasn't meant to love like this.
Not without you.

He hunted her down. He was amazed how long it took him to find her; he knew this city like the back of his paw. She wasn't easy to coax, either. Wasn't easy to apologize to. She...kept saying these weird things. Like, "The stars told me you weren't meant to die today" and "The stars say you're supposed to live a long and happy life". He didn't really know what to make of it. All that he did know, however, he was grateful to her. No matter how crazy she was.

Don't be afraid. I'll be right by your side.
Through the laughter and pain...
Together we're bound to fly.

The next few days almost didn't make sense to him. Somehow, he found that he came across her more than often, most times they were unplanned. Some times, he would refuse to himself that he was actually subconsciously looking for her within the day. He learned she was out more during the day than the night ("The stars say they'll protect me," she'd say -- which was true, the other dogs tended to bully her, and he'd be around to stop them). He also found out how badly treated she was among the other dogs, which he tried repeatedly to stop but every day would find them breaking their word anyway. Fed up with their disobedience, he gave her a silver charm.

"Oh, please don't...I don't want anything from you," she said, shaking her head. "The stars said --"
"Look, just wear it, okay?" he'd said gruffly, throwing the chain round her neck and fastening it tight. "The other dogs know that this emblem is mine. And that they shouldn't push you around, while you're wearing it." He stepped back to admire it. It placed well, in the middle of her neck.
She looked at him, then at her charm, and smiled. "Thank you," she said.
The first thing she'd ever said without involving the stars.

And maybe the biggest mistake he made...

I made a few mistakes,
Like sometimes we do.
Been through a lot of heartache,
But I made it back to you.

It worked, for some time. The dogs stayed away from her. She was in good health, for the next few days he'd see her. However, that was only upon the surface; beneath it, the dogs plotted and planned against her. They were jealous, envious of her good standing with him. She was only the little village crazy. She didn't deserve her place.

And so one fateful night, a gang of dogs stalked her, came upon her, ripped the necklace off her neck. It was that night when he happened to look up and see a shooting star. Amazed with the sight, he followed it, a strange cheerfulness in his heart.

And he stopped short when he came upon her near-lifeless body, in a dark pool of scarlet.

'Cause when I look at my life,
How the pieces fall into place,
It just wouldn't rhyme without you.
And when I see how my path
Seems to end up before your face
The state of my heart, the place where we are,
Is written in the stars.

It seemed like forever, him laying there beside her, keeping her warm, wishing he could keep her alive. Then she spoke.
"Halo...the stars tell me...it's time for me to go," she whispered. There was a smile in her voice. He could hear a tear as well.
He nuzzled her, as if his nuzzle had the power to keep her with him. "Maybe...maybe the stars are wrong just this once, Luna," he whispered, the desperation quiet in his voice.
"I'll always be with you, Halo. I'll be with the stars," she said. Then she fell silent.

Halo kept his head to hers. But one rogue tear made its way down his muzzle.
"Stay with me...don't fall asleep too soon.
The angels can wait for a moment..."
