I'm imagining how fun everyone theorizing about this little guy must be for you. waiting for pets you made to grow sounds like the most fun part of being a site artist

Honestly it is. I love making litters that have twists or easter eggs for players to find. April is my favorite month because I get to make something really funky and this year I got to be a bit silly lol

i don't think anyone tried to guess the species of this guy?
i'm gonna try and say it's the red-spotted purple (
Limenitis arthemis)
(even though the BW doesn't seem to have any red bits)
It reminds me more of the pipevine swallowtail (
Battus philenor) personally, although considering the red-spotted purple is a mimic it does make sense.
Ever since the caterpillar stage, I've been thinking more along the lines of a Spicebush Swallowtail (Papilio Troilus). For the grown BW, the webbed markings along the wings and the way the white spots extend throughout looks very similar to the Spicebush. However, the orange markings that are seen on the full wings aren't present on the BW. So, I can't be certain. What a conundrum this is. lol
Totally forgot about the caterpillar stage. The Spicebush Swallowtail is the only caterpillar I can find that looks like that. My guess is that the artist decided to just do the inner wings as the design as most pictures you search for are the inside of the wings. Either way, it is a beautiful butterfly.

I'm still placing my bets on it turning into a surprise cat. It
is an April litter, after all.~
I hope for this actually now that you mention it! A reverse August 2012 litter.
ETA, This lion gives me such intense WTNV vibes.

Considering we got
this from Saikiyo, I'm convinced it'll stay a lion, but I'm really curious about what this lil one is still hiding. *pokes it*

Yeah, it's possible some artistic license was taken here - to great affect in any case. This outcome and all its litter-mates are so lovely! I also have a soft spot for BWs that are based on real butterflies (and their moth cousins). :3

Keep forgetting to post the list xD They've all been correctly guessed but here's the complete list~ if I got any wrong please let me know, I relied on a pretty simple google search while looking up species ideas xD

- Ornate Tiger Moth

- Monarch

- Red-Bodied Swallowtail

- Spicebush Swallowtail

- Spanish Moon Moth

- Virginian Tiger Moth Caterpillar/Yellow (White) Wooly Bear <3
I did leave out the oranges on the spicebush swallowtail because it was extremely hard to try and fit that color on there without it looking messy xD Since the inner wings on some just didn't have any orange, I decided to make it a solid blue to keep it clean. I'm glad you guys liked the batch, I wanted the opportunity to make wing variations so that I had more options for later, and decided that April was a great opportunity to give them to you guys!
