During a simple stroll through the Outskirts, the trio of wermz encounters something strange...

The three wermz laughed together, walking side-by-side through the alleys of the Outskirts. They had been taking several reluctant but much-needed weeks of rest from their treacherous journeys in the Abandoned Lab. At first they were resigned to venture through the Outskirts doing simple missions for the Guild, but now it seemed to sink in for the trio that they've been effectively sprinting uphill since they started at their agency. Their lighter scavenges lightened their steps and hearts considerably.

Light filtered in through the dusty alleyways of their old stomping grounds. Pennyroyal nudged Guilla's shoulder as they passed by Veridas's old storefront. Inia fluttered her wings softly as she walked, taking care to angle them so they'd keep the sun out of Pennyroyal's face. The smaller green werm peered up at her, eyes alight, and then looked away suddenly. Inia blinked, opening her mouth to speak, before Guilla shot out a leafy arm in front of them, signalling them to stop.

Even out of practice, the trio sobered immediately, stopping tensely in their tracks. They drew silent, listening to nothing but the breeze...until... a quiet noise emanated from somewhere up the street. It almost sounded like--

"Someone's crying," said Guilla.

The three looked around carefully, but the source was nowhere to be found.

"Wait..." said Pennyroyal, dropping low to the ground. She scuttled around the edge of the alley, peering into a fractured basement window, half-buried in the dirt. A pair of eyes shined up at her.

"Are you okay?"

The other werm blinked and sniffled, hopping closer to the window. "H-hello? Hi! Hi, uh, oh my goodness hi. C-can you help? My wing..." They lifted their wing with a grimace and a hiss of pain. It looked broken in at least three places, the cartilage torn.

"Don't worry!" shouted Inia. "We're gonna get you out."
