How to make a thread guide?

I wanted to make a thread guide in my pixel whale thread, like this:

Toothed Whales
Baleen whales (you are here)
Specific Whales
Back to top

(the categories as links ofc)
But I can't figure it out. I thought I had to scroll down to the post I wanted to link, then copy the url of the site but no matter where I scroll, when I copy the url and click the link, it brings me to the baleen whales (also, the url never changes, how is one url supposed to link to different posts?).
I saw people doing this in auction or art comp threads. How do I do it?

you were right with the part about scrolling down! but you need to copy it directly from the post itself rather than the URL at the top-

then just do what youd usually do - [url=post url]text you want here[/url] !
