What the heck is up with trading?

I've also had cases where i've tried to do a litter swap and people will reject it because they are not missing anything from that litter but i dont get why they are against helping someone else who is missing something get that missing pet. You're still gaining a pet of equal value from the same litter, what is the hold up exactly? I dont get it.

People are just not obligated to help. Is it nice when it happens? Yes, I have sent trades like that and gotten some trades like that. I try to meet halfway and make a trade in which we each get something. For example, I'm missing a hamster and the other person is missing a cat. If we are both wanting to do litter swaps, then add a pet from the same litter to each side. I have a cat they need and a hamster they don't need on my side, they have a hamster I need with a cat I don't need on their side.

Trading a pet someone doesn't need or want, even if it's a litter swap is just neutral to the person. They're not gaining anything but you are gaining a wishlist pet. Offer something as an incentive for them to accept instead, maybe a higher demand species, or a pet from the previous month instead of a pet they don't want.

For the demand part, it has a lot to do with people just wanting more. If someone trades for a rare pet that they want, then they may only let go of it for a higher price because they like it. The next person to get the pet says "I paid x amount, I expect that much". Then the next person expects a bit more than even that because the pet is popular. It keeps escalating and escalating until you get the dragoncat situation and you have people who are trading for it just to trade it off again for "just a little bit more".

Maybe they should just release the numbers for store pets and urs. That way those can’t be overly valued if you have the numbers right there. Also worry that could make demand worse.

As an example: Let’s say there are only 100 Dragon PPS Cats currently on active accounts. That could further encourage people to hoard them or ask for insane trades for them simply because there are so few of them available on the site.

Don't get me started on the dragoncat... No one will value it at 0.75n, even when I was offering the UR Malk, which honestly had high demand back in the days. I had to value it at 1.25 nons so that I would get one!

At this stage i won't even trade unless it's for a pet i want. I always overpay (or at least it seems to me that I am overpaying) just so i get a trade accepted. Like valuing a pet that's supposedly 0.25-0.5n at 1.25 non.

even in dec/jan I saw a few trades on the successful trade thread where the dragoncat was traded at 0.5 non and now just a few weeks later they are going for 1 non and over… it’s actually crazy.

totally agree with having to overpay to get any successful trades. I think because there just isn’t many trading players active anymore, there’s no guarantee you can get that same pet again in another trade.

I’ve pretty much been inactive for a few years and never stuck around after the 18th except for this year, and I’ve really noticed how devalued some of the original ‘08 high list pets have become. I tried to trade off a Sunjewel and absolutely no one wanted it, even underpaying. I remember back in the day the Sunjewel was the rarest pet you could get on the site.The dog tag, ur butterfly wolf, tess cat and even the moonswirl are so undervalued now. 2 nons is the dog tags accepted value and I’ve seen some people place it as 1-1.5 non. Seems like everyone prefers to have quantity of 0.5 - 1 non pets for trading these days and no one wants to trade up.

I don't know about others, but if I don't have pets that are valuable enough to trade for something I want, I wouldn't even make an offer. I'm looking from my perspective, I wouldn't like someone offered rare for my vr, so I wouldn't do it neither. I'm assuming others have same opinion. Thing I'm finding annoying is demand. I have "list" rat, and I can't trade it for other species because of demand. My rat is worth waaaay lower even if it says it worth (ex.) non.
It turns out that is not practical or efficient to trade for anything else then dogs, not even vr rat for vr rat. I personally think that is not fair, especially to people who like to collect rats and other species.
My "list" rat was over 2 years for trade with none or very bad trades (bad as in that year rare, and few uc).

Nah I am having the same problems with trading , I will be 3 person “bumping” a adoption thread and always , always always they are canceled even if I get horses and rats. Always canceled and then they won’t accept or cancel until hours later and then everything is gone. No one wants rats or horses until they are free. The only time I ever get a trade now is for the “popular” pets. I will never get the pets I actually want because older members have started to hoard so of course they control the market ( how is that honestly fair , that’s why diamonds are the way they are ) Or the so called “token pet” which I seen to be common ! Are you kidding me ! I have a list of 40 over trades , that either haven’t been accepted or canceled. Because idk I am just thinking of just only stopping by for events and adopts like everyone else seems to be doing

It feels like the rarity system doesnt matter at all. like people will want six rares for four uncommons and justify it with years and demand, how is anyone supposed to learn all that stuff. I just want the pretty ones and give others ones they find pretty. but it just doesnt make sense to me that two rares are worth ridiculously different amounts.

The rarity system is pretty much subjective to each user that's why it's incredibly hard to percieve what's fair and what's not.
But even with a list like Horror's List it only really serves as a guideline as most people won't stick to those values because of things like demand, species, truedates and just people wanting more for a pet.
Overpaying is the only way that most people (including myself) can get the pets they need which makes it hard for collectors and new players.
I do agree with what you're saying though, sending numerous trades out (while overpaying) just to get cancelled because they want more is disheartening but there's not much you can do lol

People have taken to buying bulk store pets to stock up on trade fodder which kinda devalues recent store pets imo. Store pets automatically get the rare/cery rare tag no matter what, but some of them feel like simple uncommons at times.

My CS conspiracy theory is that some store pets in recent years have been uncommon rarities but staff have kept them tagged as rare since otherwise there would be an uproar.

I personally have no issue with the Non/MA system or the "2:1 rule" since it makes things easier for me but it's a bit confusing so I have a silly .txt guide saved on my laptop

I remember the situation with the "true pps lion" from last year's summer event (the internet one) people would really auction it and they would get high-value stuff. It was insane, and it ended up being an uncommon

I just came across this thread and oh boy, I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling! I've been here since 2012 and also took a break / came here very rarely to just get monthly pets for two or three years and came back last year and what a change. I was immediately blocked by two people after sending them a trade that they cancelled with no explanation (I always try to read rules but of course I can miss something) and by another one because I asked for pets from their adoption center and then they sent an adoption request from mine and I asked them to only pick WL pets (which is very clearly stated in the rules on bold) and they just sent a message saying this is ridiculous, I didn't see such rule anywhere and blocked me, so I was met with a rudeness I had never seen on this site before.

I have also been trying to collect all pets from 2020 and 2021 that I was missing and it's been sooo hard to get event uncommons, even when I offer uncommons from 2020 or 2019 on the other person's WL. I have only been able to get rares with C$ as well, I can't even get the rare chickens from 2014 for instance... trading for older pets without C$ or overpay has been really really hard, we used to just trade uncommon for uncommon, same year or a 1-2 years gap and that was it, if it was WL it was a given trade. I don't even feel like putting the uncommons on my adoption center because I feel like I need them for overpay or I can't trade anything...

I keep seeing this huge overpay for event pets that are going to be uncommon or rare at most as well, like the banner dragon on Halloween and the Rudolph PPS on Christmas, it's insane...

Trading pet peeve: when people send me one sided trades asking what I have to offer for the trade and the items or pet they are offering are beyond what I can offer. I mean, the pets on wishlist option is there for that purpose.

Most cases, I ignore these trade offers, but the one chance I did take on a trade like that I get mentioned about being unfair. I think I'll go back to ignoring such offers.
