What the heck is up with trading?

I definitely feel a little better after reading all of your comments. It’s comforting to know that I’m not the only one frustrated with the way trades work these days.

Does anyone have any ideas to fix these issues? I personally think valuing things as “Nons” and “MA Tier whatever” are the true harm here. How is one 09 very rare worth 40 09 rares? That just doesn’t make sense logically. If I were to trade for just one, I’d literally lose half of my accounts’ valuable pets which feels unfair to me. It’s hard enough as is to get rare trade fodder that doesn’t just go into my personal collection. People have taken to buying bulk store pets to stock up on trade fodder which kinda devalues recent store pets imo. Store pets automatically get the rare/cery rare tag no matter what, but some of them feel like simple uncommons at times.

I really wish they would release statics on the amount of pets actually active on the site. If they did that we could have a rigid structure of what is fair and what’s not, and work on that. But no one wants to release those numbers because it would crash the trading economy.

I can’t remember the exact numbers, but years ago they stated what the rarities actually meant. As in a rare is available for like 1 out of 5-10 accounts. If there’s 4000 active accounts, that means there’s 800 of the pets that are closer to being uncommon and 400 of them that are closer to being very rare.

It would make it a ton easier and it would be a lot harder to scam people.

I see how that could help a lot, but then also the more rare pets would be hoarded by the greedy and demand for them would skyrocket. Maybe cracking down on hoarding would help where one user can only have a certain amount of the same pet, but idk. People would be upset at that I’m sure. It’s not against the rules

what i personally don't find fair is how "pet values" and C$ value is different. i don't like rarity math. i am not going to trade my 2 2012 rares for a 2011 rare if the 2012 rares are both worth like 20 C$ each and the 2011 is worth like 25 C$. i could easily trade the 2012s for 40 C$ in total.

i made the mistake of selling the UR dragon i got last dec 18 for FR gems (which was equal to its "C$ worth") when i could have traded it down for much, much more... :( i just don't get it tbh. it only recently hit me how unfair it is and i don't understand it, but if anyone could explain why it's like this i would appreciate it lmao.

also i got a blue balloon last year, and i never kept up to date with the list so when i posted on the dec 18 thread, people just told me "oh this is a very rare!" (no offense to them! it's mostly on me) but nobody told me it was a list pet. again, not on them because i joined in 2019 and i assumed people thought i should have known better (though i've ~actually~ been playing since 2021) so i traded it for 600 FR gems which... i don't even need to tell you how stupid that was of me.

since then i've actively kept up with the list and rarities and stuff. as much as i hate demand and inflation, i gotta do what i gotta do... i don't want to price my horses lower or my lions higher but i don't want to rip myself off (or unknowingly other people) ever again. unfortunately i just think demand and stuff is just part of any trading game. things are more popular, more people want them, that's how it works even if it sucks sometimes

I left in 2019, came back recently, and I was literally in awe of how much things have changed. Store pets are impossible to get, lions are impossible to get, and no one wants to genuinely work out a trade and instead just decline it. It feels so much more cutthroat than it used to be, and it feels so hard to get any pet of value.

As someone who has actually been here both during the old list AND the time between it being disbanded and Horror's list taking off - I can assure you trading was much MORE difficult with no agreed-upon values. While I greatly appreciate the work Horror has put into his list (and think it overall made list trading easier and more pleasant!) I honestly think the only thing that could properly fix the ongoing culture of greed and constant upcharging and demand pushing is releasing the actual pet numbers... which the staff has said they won't do. /:

See, I didn’t really like the list either. It never made much sense to me, but it does seem to have made things worse after it was disbanded. Still several people prefer to follow the list even though it doesn’t get updated anymore. It’s just hard to have a collection as a newer player. Honestly re: the UR tiger trade, unfortunately that has never been the norm and I guess you just got incredibly lucky finding someone who didn't care for the list 😅 Horror's list is definitely being actively updated though AND the main bulk of it follows rarity as closely as it can with no official numbers (when pets went VR/OMGSR)!

To answer the question of how to "fix" trading with a bit more thought though: I don't think there is anything the site staff themselves can do to ENTIRELY curb the issue of demand, but I genuinely do feel like straight up releasing pet numbers would help balance things out. I've seen staff argue it'd lead to some upset due to people realizing how skewed their previous trades were but honestly... I already wince looking at my old trades just due to how demand and popular values have changed since then - I'd rather just them rip off the bandaid and get it over with. Yeah, people would still push values due to demand/lack of demand, but at least then we could look at actual numbers and decide whether or not the price was worth the actual rarity!

Don't get me started on the dragoncat... No one will value it at 0.75n, even when I was offering the UR Malk, which honestly had high demand back in the days. I had to value it at 1.25 nons so that I would get one!

At this stage i won't even trade unless it's for a pet i want. I always overpay (or at least it seems to me that I am overpaying) just so i get a trade accepted. Like valuing a pet that's supposedly 0.25-0.5n at 1.25 non.
