Dog Owner Chat V. 5

Hey guys, I’d love some advice, if anyone can help!

Our beagle Dexter has just been whining constantly, all day, all night, and will not stop, he goes outside regularly, on walks regularly, dog parks and whatnot to get his energy out but even if he’s all tired out he will still be adamant on his whining.

Now, I can’t physically do much anymore as I’m expecting to have a baby at any point now, so my training him has become limited, I’m looking for some advice to give to my partner, the place we’re moving into, our landlord is kinda strict and hates barking/whiny dogs and has told us if he keeps it up he needs a shock collar (which we’re not getting unless it’s strictly one that vibrates instead of shocks) I have called up a training office near us and they suggest to completely ignore him when he does that, no eye contact or talking to him and that involves scolding, which we’ve tried but it’s not working. We just don’t know what his issue has been all of a sudden? Could it be the fact he senses the major changes around the corner with the baby coming?

Have you tried taking him to the vets to rule out anything physical? He might be in some sort of discomfort and trying to communicate that to you, even if he's otherwise acting normally.

Yes, we recently did actually and there’s nothing physically wrong with him, we even had them do bloodwork to see if there was anything abnormal that we couldn’t see, he’s healthy. Just will not stop whining. It’s constant, he doesn’t stop.

my pup would also consistently whine throughout the night and ig it's cus she always has energy to kill !!!! finally found a solution after taking long night walks and she's tuckered out when we return home haha

I have no idea if I ever shared her face with CS... so CS, meet Lilypad, my new guide dog!



She's a 1.5 year old husky-APBT mix. (I DNA tested her.) She has white fur, blue eyes, cream ears, and a backstripe that's pretty faint. Genetically, a cream piebald. Her nose is brown/liver.

But her story gets crazy. Not only was she found as a stray originally, she's actually the cousin to the dog I washed between her and my last service dog!! (Whose birthday is actually in three days, so happy tenth birthday Athena!)

I trained her to be my deaf guide dog, and she's EXCELLENT. She's very aware of her surroundings and even does some cardiac alerts for me, which were untrained. She just is SO in tune to me. I was actively looking for a new canicross/guide dog, and she just kind of ended up with me at the right moment. She's still too young to do proper canicross with, but we have started doing the commands for directions and such. I still need a new canicross belt as my old one snapped last year, but once I get one and she's cleared by the vet we'll start doing trail running as a canicross team. I'm stoked for this!

Really happy to have her. She's been a total gem in my life for the last ten months and she's almost finished her training for service work, just a few remaining things to work on in terms of public access training before I consider her trained. She's so wonderful and I really don't know how I'd have coped with losing my last dog without her.
