havent gotten to see many mushrooms past couple months if any at all... its about spring time though and the rain is coming a lot now. any day now hopefully i will be picking morels!! the only mushroom i've found recently is, what i believe to be split gill? i found it around the end of winter, still a bit of snow on the ground.

two weeks ago i also found these flowers. there were several white ones in the mulch, and the purple one was kinda off to the side by itself. not sure what they are, would be cool if anyone else knew!

plants & mushrooms πŸ„ 🌳

Postby bloodclot » Wed May 03, 2023 1:45 pm

omg yall... i have been on the lookout for mushrooms for weeks. morel season just started just under a month ago, but rain hasn't appeared until bout two weeks ago. finally, i am starting off my mushroom season as i've found my first ever mushrooms of the season.... black morels!!!!!! they were huge too!!!
id like to note i found them in rocky, slatey substrate in the woods. morels grow in assosiation with certain plants, so its good to try to narrow down what plants they may be growng in association with in your area if you find any. than you'll know where to look : )

Image
^the dried up one in the background lol
Image
^this one was growing sideways, he almost looks knocked over, but i tugged lightly at him and he didnt budge. i suppose just grew this way.
Image
^these are the first ones i found. picked them and saved them for my mom to cook. will let u guys know how they are :D
Image
^my bf found this one while i went to store the other ones. as u can tell its broken but its so big!!! omg!!!!

This is such a cool thread! Can't believe I've never seen it before! I also take pictures of plants and mushrooms, so it's cool to see other people who have the same interests as me! I see a lot of mushrooms everywhere where I live, and I have a lot of fun during the spring and summer going through the woods and finding cool things. I see giant shelf mushrooms everywhere, and I think the biggest one I've found was around 7 inches big!

We also get those giant puffball mushrooms in my yard, and they get to be as big as a baseball which is a bit odd to see in your yard. Also plants, man I love plants. I grow all kinds of succulents and cacti in my house, as well as an insane amount of spider plants (they keep having children). Do you have any plants in your house that you grow? And do you grow any mushrooms? I've been thinking of growing them but I unfortunately just like them aesthetically and not to eat hahaha!

edit: (I actually run an Instagram account that's just my pictures of mushrooms, I have far to much fun with it)

im really glad to see others enjoy this thread, especially as much as you seem to : D i have never really been able to find anyone else online that enjoys mushrooms and fungi as much as i do, except on reddit where there is mushroom foraging communities surprisngly.i share all of my photos there typically. in the spring summer and fall all i do is take pictures of mushrooms practically lol :,) i would love to see some of the photos you take if you'd like to share, its always welcome!!
shelf mushrooms are so cool!! my favorite shelf mushrooms i've seen so far are hemlock varnish shelf (looks like alien mushrooms), and artist conk!! this conk i found on my very first mushroom hunting adventure : D

im not sure if i ever shared this here, but my om brought a small one home once, drew on the back and hung it up on her wall. : 3

im totally jeaous of the puffball mushrooms!! i've seen one sizable as a young kid, i vagely remember my bother kicking it out of the ground and i immediately stopped playing with him lol .
never seen any that big before ever again though. if i had puffballs like that growing in my yard i'd have to pick a few and put it on pizza or something!! : D

i love plants sooo much!!! i got into them after i got into mushrooms. i have quite a few plants, theyre all small yet, but i've learned to propogate by cutting, stem, and leaf. my first few plants i killed for sure.. but now im out here chopping and propping.
well my mom did buy my a spider plant recently (been wanting one forever just cuz they spit babies and i love gifting props) and it died within three days.. : ( poor spider lol. im thinking of posting to the house plant forum about some more of my plants soon, if anyone else has yet!
i don't grow mushrooms though : ( it's definitely a much different practice than growing plants. it seems a lot more complicated, and maybe im not into it as much for the same reason as you. aesthetically mushrooms are my favorite thing on earth, to eat though, not as much if im honest.

I have never thought of doing this, but I think I am going to now. I've posted photos on blog sites, forums sites, but now im going to dedicate an instagram page to my mushroom photos, i feel like it would help me keep track of them more anyway. : )
if it goes by these rules (which im sure you know haha) you should share the page with us! : )

Perhaps one day I shall share the account haha, being perceived is scary. And I can totally share a few photos, perhaps tomorrow when I have more time. And yeah growing mushrooms is soooooo different from plants, its nuts!! Those shelves were amazing!! I've got a lot of turkey tail around where I am, and those guys are huge! I haven't actually seen a lot of puffballs recently, have no idea why. Theres quite a few other species in my yard, which I think I'm going to try and identify this year (I have so many mushroom books its crazy). Im happy to talk about this with someone, as you're right, its so hard to find other people that like fungi. I should share some of my plants over on the other forum, but that'll be for later.

Whats the best fungi you've found so far?? Mine is what I think may be a velvet foot, but it could be something else.

oh yeah mushrooms are so cool!! I may not like to eat them, but the sheer possibilities in them are amazing. I love learning all the weird and wacky ways. Like slime fungus, they're so darn cool! I remember as a child there had to be a huge colony of puffball mushrooms growing in my backyard. They were absolutely everywhere. I spent many days out there poking them with sticks and making them explode hahahaha.

They're just so cool hahaha, and there's always more things to learn about them. If I wasn't so dedicated to psychology, I totally would have gone into mycology or plant study.

depending where you are, it might not be puffball season. i haven't seen many, if any mushrooms yet this year except for morels and a couple litle brown mushrooms. nearing the end of spring/summer/fall is when all the mushrooms spawn in my area :)
that is exactly why i made this thread also, i was afraid no one would really care but it seems there are definitely people here interested in mushrooms and all those goods, makes me want to talk about them more and more c :

Spaceinmyhead wrote:Whats the best fungi you've found so far?? Mine is what I think may be a velvet foot, but it could be something else.

this feels like a tricky question haha.i found so , so many cool stuff, just within last year : D my personal favorite, or best, would have to be this double/twin destroying angel i found in my neighbourhood.
Image
they're considered pretty deadly to eat , but they're chill to touch, like mushrooms be.

i only found out it is a crocus after i posted those photos, but i guess that confirms it since quite a few others told me the same : )
i value your appreciation for this thread a lot <3
