Because what you’re describing sounds like the custom sunjewel, an identical copy to this pet but with no rarity. I forget the story behind it’s existence but I believe nick confirmed it to be a custom of some kind, if anyone has more information though that would be helpful

Here's some background on the "custom" sunjewel! ^^

It's not a "custom" Sunjewel as much as just a system issue.
This particular Sunjewel was given to the original owner as a giftbox, not a sunjewel puppy. As such, the system doesn't recognize it as the same pet, unlike, for example, re-released sun dogs.

It is a special pet in a way, yes, because it was given to someone as a gift rather than being an original adopt from July 2008 or a re-release. But it's not truly a custom because it looks exactly like any other sunjewel, whereas the whole point of a custom pet is that it's unique. (Usually. Good Dog and Bad Dog exist as twins, haha.)

I guess you can call it a custom, as Nick did on the thread DD linked, but it's a bit misleading.

hey all! just wanted to pop in and share that my custom has been changed (this will be its final form lol).

as much as I loved magpie's design (and enjoyed watching her grow up with all of you!), I adopted a very sweet puppy last summer who has very quickly become my whole entire world -- so I wanted my custom to be of her. :^)

for her art I commissioned the wonderful and talented Doglike who did such an amazing job capturing her likeness 💛
