To join in on the quality discussion, it's really noticeable as of late, and it's really unfortunate-- but that tends to happen when a line has more demand than supply unfortunately

I took a break from collecting any of these guys for a while, there just weren't any that interested me much and like I said in one of my last posts, I've more or less stopped actively collecting them, up until recently anyway. I'm mostly just avoiding the ones Walmart sells, they seem to be the cheapest-feeling ones and they're mostly Squish-doos anyway. I think the one that sorta kicked off my interest again was Aldron, the plague doctor they released for Halloween. I found him while I was grocery shopping at my local Kroger affiliate, and I just couldn't pass him up. He was a bit pricy, but I think he was worth it since he's pretty good quality, plus he's super squishy and very cute.
After that, I found Dandii the koi, Felton the siamese cat, Antoine the peanut butter, Amelie the strawberry milk, and Galci the raccoon at the same store I got Aldron from. They were on sale for half off, but I ended up buying the koi the day before the sale because I was afraid they wouldn't have any left by the time I could go back again (spoiler alert; there were still a bunch left ;u;"). I didn't find too many more that I liked after that, other than a couple of clips or some 8-inch ones here and there, but over the holidays I got a bunch more. ;u;
My dad let me order some from the holiday collection on Five Below's website, so I got Evita the bigfoot, Ivy the dog, Yara the yeti, Manny the snowman, and Svenja the axolotl (who is suuuuper squishy, by the way). Then I found the Archie collector tin at a Claire's in a Walmart, which I'd been wanting for a while, but the only places I could find it online that weren't stupidly expensive were in those "blind selection" listings where you can't pick what you get. And then, after all that, my dad still managed to surprise me with two more axolotls! They're from Walmart, but I'm not mad about it or anything since I know he just wanted to make me happy. They're both Anastasias, but one is a normal 10-inch and the other is a Squish-doo. Weirdly enough, the Squish-doo is actually squishier and nicer quality than the normal one.

Anyways, sorry for the ramble lol. I did hear some news recently, apparently they're making Godzilla Squishmallows?! There's gonna be Godzilla, Mechagodzilla, Mothra, and Rodan. Personally I don't really care for Mechagodzilla, and normal Godzilla is a little weird too, but Mothra and Rodan are really cute!

i'm not pleased with the rarities tbh. it feels the company is encouraging reselling and capitalizing on people's fear of missing out, which feels especially scummy for something that's meant to be a children's toy. they shouldn't be collectors items! they're for kids! it's fine if you want to collect them just for the sake of it, but i hate how the artificial scarcity and shelf-clearing means that actual children aren't going to get toys created for them

I definitely agree with you there. When I first learned of the existence of Squishmallows, they were very much being marketed specifically for children from what I could tell. But as time went on, they started to take more and more notice of the adult collectors and just kicked their child audience to the curb essentially, in favor of getting more money from adults. I have no qualms with any adult collectors, as I am one myself, my problem lies entirely with the company itself. They're putting profit over their community and it's just so disgusting. That's just one of the many reasons I've all but entirely stopped collecting them. I might pick one up occasionally if I happen to find one while I'm out shopping for other things, but I'm never going to go hunting specifically for them again. Honestly, if their quality keeps tanking the way it is, I'll probably stop altogether at some point. The only plush companies I feel okay with giving my money to now are Fluffnest, Aurora, and Bellzi.

I went back and saw this discussion, and I absolutely agree. The rarities are just a horrible idea to encourage "scalping" in my opinion. I was so frustrated when I first saw this announcement. I actually haven't bought any new squish since. I think the idea of rarities really turned me away from it

I actually haven't really seen any of the "rare" ones around, even when I happen to be around the day a new set is put out in stores. I did see one of the rare Fuzz-A-Mallows, but it was a horse or a unicorn or something like that, one of the unpopular species, so there were a ton of them left lol. It actually seems like the hype for Squishmallows has really died down, at least where I live. I've seen them around much more often in the past year or so, even the more sought after species like the cows and axolotls and such. I wonder if a major factor in that is the fact that they've gotten more expensive lately as well. The 16" ones are $30 and up nowadays, and I bought a 12" sugar glider the other day for $15, but that was with my Kroger card. Without the discount from the card, the 12" were $30 and the 16" were $40+! I mean I know inflation is getting bad, but this feels like more than just inflation.
