The shape of the pigments suggests specific colouration. Microraptor, for example, is iridescent and black, similar to a starling or magpie. These findings, however, do not tell us the full colour of the entire animals. For example, the scales may have been different colours to the feathers and perhaps only the male Microraptors were black and iridescent.
