Neteru and Anubis were delighting in finding all of the little hidden treasures which reminded them of their past, but after a while they became curious about what the other goobies were doing, milling around the North Pole and all having the time of their lives. It was such a beautiful place, where magic could be felt in the very air around them, and everybody was feeling the Goomas Spirit, not least of all Spirit himself, the newest Goobie there.
"Imagine how lovely it is to have your very first birthday at the North Pole," Neteru mused, a twinkle in his eye. Anubis nodded in response, feeling grateful that everything had worked out just exactly as it did. Life was funny sometimes, but he was already beginning to see that in the long run you could count on things to work out properly, as long as you did what was right and had friends by your side.
A trumpet sounded at that very moment, announcing that Nicolas was on his way. Rudolph let them know and then with great joy and delight Anubis and Neteru rushed back over to the group, lining up alongside the sleigh and peering forward to see the arrival of their newest friend, the amazing Nicolas who was in charge of this northern estate.
He announced that he had gifts for all of them, and that by magic he knew what they had wanted, without being told. Neteru's heart swelled with joy at such a magical thing, and Anubis was bounce-bounce-bouncing right alongside him, eager to see his gift and what it would be.
The gifts were passed around and everybody was allowed to open them. Neteru held his between his paws, a little treasure that he wasn't sure what it would be, but felt in his heart that all was right. However he wanted to see what Anubis would get first, so he looked down at the little one and saw him furiously scrabbling to unwrap his gift as quickly as possible! When he did so, it became apparent that his present was a deck of cards and a small book.
"Playing cards, Anubis?" Neteru asked, curious as to why a book would have been paired with them.
"Oh no, actually these are oracle cards! It's like the tarot except each card says on it what they mean. It's a way of fortune telling, basically, but it's a bit simpler for beginners like me. And the book has extra information if you want to get really technical about interpretation."
"How lovely! Hmm, let's see what I got..." Neteru opened his gift and saw that it was a large crystal, and engraved into it with lasers on the inside there was an image of their entire family: Neteru and Nahla, side by side, with all the little goobies arranged around them as friends, each in a signature pose or expression that truly captured their personality. "OH, it's better than I could have ever imagined!" He cried out with joy, and the two of them wrapped one another in a great big hug.
