Minecraft.
Singleplayer Minecraft has an extremely isolating environment to me. Nothing feels alive except you. I literally cannot play Minecraft without thinking of how fundamentally depressing the premise is.
On top of that, it's just not fun to me. I don't like survival, I don't like building, and I dislike the camera movements and graphics. Minecraft is one of few games which inexplicably makes my eyes either dry out or hurt. I don't care for the grind, crafting, or combat; it is all boring to me. Exploration feels meaningless. Everything is meaningless. Every time I open Minecraft I think to myself, "Why am I playing?" and the truth is because of its overwhelming popularity, not because it's enjoyable.
Other people can enjoy it, but it's definitely not for me. I am a Minecraft hater (I'm evil I know). I don't know why but the silly mining block game gives me an existential crisis every time.

AGREED TBH
playing it on multiplayer feels fine but when it's singleplayer it feels terrifying and lonely, probably cause it's such a vast world in-game that exploring it alone is just.... sad. all the times i've played on singleplayer i end up visiting / staying at villages, probably cause seeing other builds with friendly npc's(??) feels less lonely
i don't think i've ever encountered another game where the singleplayer part of it feels lonely / miserable; only minecrafts been able to do that
im fine with the mechanics though they feel meaningless on singleplayer (it feels like there should be someone else to impress ingame yknow??), and ive never been able to actually finish minecraft, in regards to the ender dragon. i probably could if i really tried but i never got the spark to do so.. not that it's a flaw of the game, but im surprised i sometimes get invested in minecraft and still feel like i haven't accomplished anything for the games intended end goal ig?? congrats to players that are able to do that though! im just genuinely curious as to where people find that motivation

I agree - when it comes to singleplayer you are the first and last person to witness your achievements. There are no NPCs in the game that can be compared to "you", which hammers this point in further. In most RPGs, for example, characters are given dialogue (or at the very least personality through their actions), but in Minecraft, all mobs can do is walk around and fight/run away from you when provoked. Besides trading with a select few of them, these are the only major interactions you can have with mobs in the game. I think that's really where the loneliness comes from, at least for me.
I've also never finished it. I'm super glad I found someone else who feels the same way about the game though. Nearly everyone I know enjoys Minecraft to some capacity, but I could never get into it.

I'm not trying to say it's an RPG, but I worded my statement badly. I was comparing it to RPGs because many RPGs are also single-player games, but they don't feel as "lonely" because of how you can interact with NPCs and other characters, listen to what they have to say through dialogue, etc. I know Minecraft isn't meant to be an RPG and that it's 100% a sandbox, and obviously the two genres are going to be vastly different. I used the comparison to make it clear that Minecraft's single player mode doesn't feel lonely because its single player, but because of the way the game is designed.

ah my bad yeah that makes much more sense . i actually agree w that to an extent i remember when i was 7 i was so scared of how lonely the game felt that i would just spawn a bunch of villagers because i felt like something was watching me due to how lonely it felt :-') now i think that's kind of the draw, but i do also overpopulate my world with a lot of modded mobs, it makes the game more fun and lively and i cannot play singleplayer without them lol

I can't say that I hate this game, but I have a hard time playing Terrarria for similar reasons why some peeps in this thread don't like Minecraft. I feel a lot better when playing with friends, but playing by myself is difficult. I think it's all in my head, since my aversion to the unknown keeps me from progressing in the game.
Some of the time pressure also doesn't make me feel good. In every world you make, there is an "evil" which will corrupt the world as you play. The evil spreads faster once you've killed a certain boss, and you gotta be somewhat quick to stop the spread, otherwise the evil will shutoff access to certain resources. I think some changes have been made in regards to how evils spread, but I still don't feel great dealing with them all by myself!
✧ They/Them ✧
Please be patient with me.
If there's a pet in a non-tradable group that you really want, PM me and something might work out.

Weh, I can agree with the worms being scary ^^; I remember in some of my first playthroughs I was super scared of them since I couldn't see them + the little "ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch" sound they make before leaping out of the ground really got my anxiety up.
